Hey guys
This is my first venture into competitive Pokemon, so I thought I would make one of the easier teams to start off. Because this was my first team, I didn't worry about having perfect IV's. I have tested this team against a few random passerby, which yielded decent results. Some guy was using Arceus and Giratina on his team and I was glad to beat him, although it was kind of close. Anyway, here's the team!
Greninja @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
Protean is an amazing ability. There's something satisfying about predicting the enemy's electric move to get a free set of spikes down. I almost always lead with Greninja, so if they send out a Stealth-Rocker or a Spiker I'll immediately taunt. After that I lay down Spikes. By this time they either want to KO Greninja or switch out, and I don't mind letting my lead take damage. I'll sometimes let him sit there and do damage until he is KO'd, which has worked quite well in the past. Ice Beam with STAB is really nice to have against dragons. If Greninja doesn't faint early, he's good to U-Turn or Volt-Switch into late game for some decent damage!
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- U-Turn
- Bullet Punch
- Quick Attack
- Roost
Scizor is standard in a Volt-Turn team, mine being no exception. However, I don't see too many people rocking Scizorite over Choice Band, my reason being I run Roost. I have those 248 HP EVs to take hits from anything that's not a fire move, and without them I find Scizor to be too frail. Technician is great, as it makes Quick Attack and Bullet Punch hit hard with 252 Atk EVs. I use Scizor as my Garchomp check as he can usually survive around four hits. Good typing synergy with Rotom-W, resist almost every type in the game together. I couldn't get Superpower because it was tutor-only in B2W2.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitiate
EVs: 228 HP / 60 SAtk / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Thunderbolt
Standard bulky special-attacker set for my Rotom-W. I want to make sure I out-speed a lot of pokes but also not die in one hit. Will-O-Wisp standard for physical attackers. Not too much to say here honestly, he's the basic Rotom-W. I did take thunderbolt however, as I couldn't get Pain Split from B2W2. Some people like to take Thunder Wave over Will-O-Wisp, but I find burn damage to be more useful than paralysis.
Landorus-T @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Lonely Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide (or Stone Edge when I level it)
- U-Turn
- Toxic
I'm not sure if I did this one correctly. I caught this Landorus-T in Dream Radar before I got into Comp. I was happy that it had a +Atk nature, although I am -Def. As such, I decided to go with a banded sweeper set focusing on Earthquake. I'm honestly not too sure about this one though, so I would really appreciate some advice on possible replacements or something. Toxic is there for coverage, it's always good to have a poke to poison. Also, I wanted to teach it Stealth Rock but alas it is tutor-only in B2W2. Now that I think about it though, it's too frail to set up rocks. Definitely strong, but probably not the best it could be. Also not sure about Choice Band over Life Orb. Let me know.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Rock Slide
Excadrill is really, really strong and probably the best Rapid-Spinner in the game. I didn't have a HA Drilbur, so I just bred what I had. I know Sand Rush is better, but I don't run any Sandstormer, or have an Ability Capsule. The only reason I put Excadrill in was to be a Rapid-Spinner for Dragonite, but he's really strong anyway. I was thinking of running Sandstorm over Swords Dance, but I'm not really sure. This is where the team begins to fall apart I feel. Help is much appreciated!
(Shiny) Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake (again, lol)
- Fire Punch
I was really happy my shiny Dratini happened to be Adamant nature. I'm running the standard sweeper set here. So far I've had great results with this Dragonite, as he can fit well in most teams. U-Turning into a fast Dragonite is scary for the opponent, and they usually switch out, allowing me a free Dragon Dance. If they switch into a steel-type I Fire Punch. Earthquake is there because it's strong and good coverage, even though I already have 2 other EQ's on my team.
That covers it! Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I posted this in hopes of becoming a better trainer and I want to learn as much as possible about competitive battling!
