I am about to be a freshman Music Education student. I love classical. Russian composers are generally where it's at. I try to keep an open ear to new things and I like to listen to a random stuff that I'm not really familiar with, but I mostly listen to rock, alternative, and classical.
I've been playing tuba for four years now. I played clarinet for four years before that, but really sucked at it the entire time. I actually only switched to tuba my freshman year of high school because they needed tuba and my middle school band director recommended me because I had played bass guitar in jazz band, so she knew I was fluent in bass clef.
The musical moment that most sticks out to me is my experience as second chair in District Honor Band in the toughest district in my state.
We played my favorite piece of concert band literature -- Angels in the Architecture by Frank Ticheli. The entire experience was amazing. Rehearsing and performing that piece was an extremely emotional experience for all involved. The first time in rehearsal the flautist who did the vocal part started singing the beginning of the piece, I actually got teary-eyed from the seraphic quality of her voice.
That concert was probably the only performance I've ever participated in that made audience members cry. It was phenomenal.
