Hello everyone! While I don't really post, I have read a lot of RMT threads and have quite a bit of experience battling, playing competitively since gen 3. I don't usually play on showdown and prefer to battle online over wifi. This team has been very successful for me for the last month, and I am curious to see if anyone can make any improvements where I cannot. I like bulky offense teams mostly and this sort of fits the bill with rotom, scizor, and the bulky charizard x set. The goal was to clear up any big threats or at least weaken them so Charizard X can sweep with a boost or two.
The team:
Rotom Wash @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 Hp / 252 Def/ 4 SpA
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
Rotom wash has definitely stepped up his game this generation. Checking many of this generations new, powerful threats (talonflame, charizard, etc) He is the main defensive pokemon on my team. Volt switch synergizes with u turn on both talonflame and scizor, allowing me to switch easily between half of my team to counter the current threat. Will o wisp further strengthens his physical bulk and provides support against physical threats for the rest of the team. I've found chesto-resto recovery to be much more reliable than pain split, and this is reflected on the moveset.
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Defog
Latios, once banned to Ubers has now descended to compete with the rest of the mortals. An excellent revenge killer (like much of this team) Latios provides the essential defog support, clearing rocks that would cause both talonflame and charizard to enter the field at 50% HP before using a move. I will usually draco meteor assuming no fairies are present, as there is little that wants to take such a powerful move, before switching out. Psyshock and surf provide coverage.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpDef
- Pursuit
- Brick Break
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
This position was once filled by choice band genesect, but with the recent ban, I replaced it with a different iron coated bug. Scizor serves as a powerful physical attacker, causing difficult situations for the opponent if they have a psychic type out because of pursuit. Bullet punch allows for revenge kills, and scizor's insane u-turn damages promotes synergy while packing a great punch. Any other suggestions for this position are welcome, I just through scizor into the ring because its the same type and fills (mostly) the same role.
Dugtrio Focus sash
Ability: Arena Trap
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Reversal
Dugtrio has the only entry hazards on the team, in the form of stealth rock. I'll usually try to get these up if there are scary flying types like talonflame present, but the persistent damage throughout the match is nice to make charizard's job easier. Arena trap allows a fast earthquake to wreck those weak to it like t-tar and heatran, which would be difficult otherwise. It has done surprisingly well for me, as it always seemed pretty janky to me. But with Dugtrio's speed he can nab some quick kills. Reversal can be some nice coverage and makes killing ttar even easier if used properly.
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Tailwind
This new bird iteration is the best yet. Surpassing its peers in Bird Jesus and even Staraptor, Talonflame is able to put some serious hurt on the enemies with powerful priority in brave bird. This is the second choice band The other moves are standard filler, because 85% of the time brave bird is what is being used. U-turn allows switches and tailwind can help in some weird situations. What else is there to say? Brave bird on this pokemon has been pretty game changing, able to put some pressure on attackers that don't invest much in their defenses.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze -> Tough Claws
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
If Charizard is on the field, it likely means that rocks are gone, any serious threats (heatran!) have been removed, and it's time to clean up the mess that's left. I like the bulky set because it makes setting up much easier and allows the sweep to last longer, especially with roost. A single dragon dance lets it punish the enemy, and if two DDs go up then it's GG. The combination of fire and dragon is a spectacular offensive combination and if charizard is out I'm likely already in a position to win.
Edit: Considering replacing roost with earthquake and switching to the 3 attacks+ full speed investment set.
Thanks for reading! This is a very standard team, but the successes have been great. I'll likely edit in a threat list later on. Any help or adjustments are much appreciated, and criticism is welcome! :D
