Clefable is a fantastic receiver thanks to the unique combination of mono-Fairy typing coupled with Magic Guard alongside a plethora of support and utility options. The choice between Knock Off, Stealth Rock, and Thunder Wave is strictly based on team composition as Clefable is very flexible with its moveslots to adjust to a team's needs; Knock Off is more consistent on Clefable, removing valuable items from common switch-ins such as Ho-Oh and Gholdengo, while Thunder Wave supports Clefable's teammates by slowing the opponent down. Tera Water is a great all-around defensive Tera type that gives Clefable an easier time against the likes of Walking Wake and Manaphy, which can trouble fatter Clefable teams. Tera Steel is an option that flips Clefable's weaknesses into resistances; however, it is worse against major threats Clefable tends to check, such as Great Tusk and Zamazenta.
Clefable slots extremely well into most gods' Defense slot, as even a less-than-average stat from the likes of Eternatus or Ho-Oh can still patch up Clefable's weaker Defense. That being said, it appreciates a bigger donation from gods such as Arceus or Necrozma-DM to be truly effective. HP is another option for it to power up its overall bulk, but is generally less used, as Clefable's HP is already good enough and the HP slot is fairly valuable for most teams. Setup sweepers such as Ogerpon-W and Hydrapple specifically appreciate Clefable's ability to provide speed control via Thunder Wave, as well as its ability to handle Dragon-types such as opposing Hydrapple and Roaring Moon. Pokemon such as Ting-Lu, Hisuian Samurott, and Skarmory provide further entry hazard support and help form a solid defensive core or offer pivoting support, respectively. Steel-types such as Skarmory, Gholdengo, and Necrozma-DM complement Clefable by forming a solid defensive core. Ghost-types such as Sinistcha, Arceus-Ghost, and Gholdengo appreciate Clefable's ability to consistently switch into Knock Off and threaten Dark-types such as Urshifu and Weavile, while Clefable appreciates their ability to keep entry hazards up on the opposing side of the field.
