Gen 1 Clefable (rby ou mini analysis)

[OVERVIEW]

While Clefable faces considerable competition for the role of a non lead sleep user by proven OU Pokémon like Exeggutor, It can leverage it’s normal typing, strong movepool, and just good enough stats to fill the role effectively.
Clefables normal typing and bulk makes it a legitimate switch in vs snorlax, and while Gengar may be more suited at switching in and attempting sleep, Clefables wide move pool offer’s paralysis, stab, and coverage options to threaten the opponent with.

[SET]
name: non-lead sleep

Move 1: Sing
Move 2: Thunder wave/body slam
Move 3: Mega kick/hyper beam
Move 4: Blizzard/thunderbolt

[SET COMMENTS]

Sing is the primary threat and should be focused on setting up if you’re going to use Clefable. Non status lead options keep sleep on the table, and Pokémon like para Chansey or your own Snorlax can work well at bringing out the opponents Snorlax.
Mega kick is a space saving option to make room for paralysis and a coverage option, but body slam and hyper beam can be paired if either para or coverage are not valued as highly.
Blizzard offers access to freeze, and covers Rhydon, Zapdos, and Exeggutor. While thunderbolt gives you a way to threaten water types that otherwise bully Clefable but the three covered matchups mentioned earlier become poor and freeze is lost.
