Clerics of D/P NOT Blissey?

We all know about that pink fat whore, but I was wondering what other pokes can heal and support even close to what Blissey can.

I know Miltank does fairly well with high defenses, two good abilities (Thick Fat for more defense, Bravery for more attack and not to be walled by Ghosts). Chimecho is underrated IMO and can Heal Bell, Heal Wish (useful before death), and can T-Wave, Hypnosis and set up screens. Levitate helps but meh defenses hurt.

Are these 3 it?

LickiLicky is not a bad choice for a cleric, as it has access to wish and heal bell and its defences and hp are pretty good

Celebi is also a great cleric with heal bell and it also learns recover and leech seed

Shaymin also has access to aromatherapy but it doesnt have access to a good healing move like recover, having to rely on aromatherapy or leech seed for healing

I think Cresselia is a bit underrated at this point. Played correctly, a Cresselia with Lunar Dance can really turn a battle around, and it generally carries Thunder Wave and Reflect for additional support. Heal Bell/Aromatherapy are a bit less important this time around as battles are just faster with the more offensively-oriented metagame, which isn't to say they aren't quite useful, but it's not necessary to build your team around having one.

I don't know why we've decided to pick up this 'Cleric' term...

Blissey, obviously, is the Heal Beller/Aromatherapist with the greatest survivability and overall effectiveness, but a few other Pokemon can conceivably pull it off I think... the key being in pretty much all of these cases that the Pokemon naturally has above average defenses combined with a recovery move, allowing them at least some staying power, but none of them really get close to Blissey other than maybe Celebi.

Meganium was mentioned and it is pretty sturdy defensively, one of the main downfalls of it is that it's already hurting for moveslots, as well as the fact it's primary recovery move is terrible in the seemingly ever present Sandstorm, but Meganium is pretty solid as a support Pokemon, especially with the added ability to set up Reflect or Light Screen, if desired. Shaymin is pretty similar to Meganium, assuming it stays unbanned, as an Aromatherapist, with the difference in that it has more HP and better offensive stats in exchange for losing Light Screen and Reflect for Seed Flare.

Celebi I'm concerned will end up in the uber tier, but it's definitely the #2 option to Blissey if it stay legal, even if Celebi is perfectly capable of doing things more useful than Heal Belling. It's sturdier than any other Pokemon mentioned other than Blissey thanks to decent(albeit less useful than it has been in previous generations) typing, defensive stats, and the always wonderful Recover. It kind of one-ups Meganium in a lot of ways since it has the psuedo-passing moves and pretty much everything else Meganium can do available, in addition to a better recovery move, some various low power special attacks like Charge Beam and Water Pulse, and some useful support moves like Thunder Wave and Calm Mind, in addition to Energy Ball and Psychic for potential STAB moves.

The other option that is definitely viable is Miltank. It seems to have gotten a little worse every generation since it's creation, and while Bravery is cool if Miltank is Heal Belling it's probably going to want the resistances it gains by using Thick Fat, since while it has above average HP and Defense the Special Defense is pretty mediocre. Like Celebi and Blissey it has a good recovery move in Milk Drink that isn't affected by the weather, and that combined with it's defenses is enough for it to last a while.

Of course, Cleric implies 'healer', and if you're just trying to heal your team, Cresselia's Lunar Dance and Jirachi's Wish(as well as Togekiss and Vaporeon's to a lesser extent) are a hell of a lot more viable than most of the previously mentioned Pokemon trying to remove your statuses are. That said, Paralysis and Sleep are probably stronger this generation than they've been since RBY, so carrying a status healing Pokemon is certainly an asset.

that true. Cresclia's ground and fighting resistance helps too and Lunar Dance can turn the tides of battle. couldn't get that +6 boost from Anger Nerve for Tauros? couldn't Sub down to exactly 1 HP for your reversaler? Then try it again.

The previous mentions were pretty good too, notably Celebi (too bad for it's horrific typing)

true about Clefable, but at least it bypasses things like Toxic and absorbs Burns ok and can heal wish and lucky chant if you're into that. (Oh, and joke Clefable moveset I have to plug: Lucky Chant, Cosmic Power, Softboiled, Toxic)

Altaria and Dragonite can Heal Bell, but that's the limit for them as Clerics. If they had wish or something, but they unfotunately don't.

Jirachi could be a potential cleric, for wish passing.

Vaporeon is pretty decent also, though I don't know how well it fares in this generation.

i wouldnt count roserade out of the cleric section even if it has something better to do.

Lickilicky @ Leftovers
-Wish
-Protect
-Heal Bell
-Explosion

252 HP/252 Def/Rest in Atk

It wish passes.
It heal-bells.
It Explodes.
It Stalls.
It works.

For the curious, here is everyone who can learn Heal Bell and Aromatherapy:

#45 Vileplume (levelup)
#47 Parasect (levelup)
#108 Lickitung (NYPC)
#131 Lapras (XD)
#144 Articuno (XD)
#149 Dragonite (XD)
#154 Meganium (levelup)
#181 Ampharos (XD)
#189 Jumpluff (egg)
#210 Granbull (egg)
#241 Miltank (levelup)
#242 Blissey (egg)
#251 Celebi (levelup)
#262 Mightyena (XD)
#300 Skitty (levelup)
#315 Roselia (levelup)
#334 Altaria (XD)
#358 Chimecho (levelup)
#421 Cherrim (egg)
#492 Shaymin (levelup)

A big list, but most of the stuff flat-out sucks at using it because of horrible defenses. Standouts are Blissey (duh), Celebi, Shaymin, Miltank, Lapras, Articuno, and Dragonite. Celebi has the possibility of being moved to uber. The others have nice defenses, a shame that all three of the latter are weak to rock because they could stand to see more use. Still, they can be used and deserved to be used more than they are. Stuff like Roserade has good stats but horrible defenses, stick to an attacking set. Lickilicky could work, but it is an event.

As far as UU goes, Vileplume, Altaria, Ampharos, and Meganium stand out. I wouldn't be surprised if the UU metagame was more stallish than Advance, but that's getting offtopic.

Dragonite might sort of work, but it can die so fast that it might not be a good choice anyway.

Blissey is by far the best, but with Miltank/Celebi/Roserade/Shaymin coming next. Whats weird is that the two best, Celebi/Blissey, both have Natural Cure, so neither benefit much from Aromatherapy unless you run Serene Grace on Bliss.

I actually underestimated Roserade's ability to use Aromatherapy -- I thought its special defense was far lower than it was. It can also Rest with Natural Cure if it needs to heal itself.

I think Articuno and Dragonite are better choices for the Heal Bell role than they were in Advance, with the addition of Roost to their movepools. They're not particularly bad at it...but they aren't awesome either. Articuno in particular has some rather annoying weaknesses, though it has great defensive stats.

I still say Lickilicky is a good cleric. 110/95/95 defenses are better than Swampert, and Lickilicky's Explosion is the strongest attack in the game since its the only Pokemon that gets STAB on it (correct me if I'm wrong). The set that Don Juan posted is very viable. Wish + Protect can also make sort of a make shift Recover if its low on heath. Surprisingly enough, I used a Heal Bell + Wish Lickitung on a UU team, and it worked quite well.
