Yes, that title is insanely dumb but idk what anyone expects from my first real post in cong. Anyway, I just want to give my thoughts and hear you guys' thoughts on the cancerous nature of clout chasing on Smogon.
If you've been living under a rock, maybe you don't know how extremely toxic clout culture gets in Smogon. Tons of users pledge to worship the ground mods walk on in the hopes of being recognized and promoted. This wouldn't be that big of an annoyance(every community has these individuals) except Smogon actively rewards these people and the cycle continues. Instead of promoting people based on how much they care about helping others to grow and learn, we get people who only care about themselves and only make decisions if it helps their agenda. Of course, this isn't very many mods, but there are those out there and it seems to be a problem just getting worse.
My thoughts on the matter is just how laughable it all is. It's a fucking competitive pokemon site and we have 15 year old Juan over here minimodding and repeating dumb mantras so his favorite mod in the whole wide world will finally notice him. It's so stupid but it can be very frustrating for individuals who care about the future of whatever subset of the community they are apart of to be overlooked by people who only care about being "famous" or something. I'm aware this post isn't the best but I'd like u guys thoughts.
