Cloystermania! Peaked 1500 on PS

Good day Smogon users, I am bringing you my very first weather team and would love to get some solid feedback on it. I like it but I constantly feel like something is missing but I can't figure out what so maybe you guys can help me out?

PROCESS
The team actually begun with 3 pokemon in mind. Gliscor

Alakazam

Cloyster

First of Gliscor

I always though this guy had a unique typing and worked really well in OU despite his weakness to ice and wanted to build a team around him.

Alakazam
65.png

I had no clue how strong and fast this guy was, he is like a mini version of mewtwo and when I saw that he didn't hurt Gliscor in any way.

Cloyster
91.png

This guy is most likely the weakest link on my team but its a freakin Cloyster!? I didn't really find anything special I wanted instead of this guy so I just slammed him on the team. Plus he can cover Gliscors ice weakness.

Now those were the 3 guys I wanted to base my team around, all I needed to do now was find them some friends they could play with.

Ferrothorn
628.png

I decided to add this guy to my team because I needed a defensive core and Ferrothorn looked like a legit special wall that had nice synergy with Gliscor. Plus it also gave hazard support.

Politoed
186.png

Cloyster isn't the best poke around so I wanted to give him some support and rain seemed like a nice alternative because it boosted his attack and stopped other weather from interrupting. Plus Scald and Ice beam really helps to damage threats in a effective way.

Tornadus-T
681.png

Since I decided to run a rain team after all it would just be foolish of me not to add one of the biggest rain sweepers to the team. Tornadus-T is great late game because its so fast and its stab hurricane is nothing to mess with.

The result of my process:

Da Team explained!

This is a bulky attacker set, I decided to go with this build so that I can keep my Politoed around while being able to hit opposing threats for solid damage. Encore is there to give me a little lead way in case they try to set up or go for a move my other pokes can take. Scald and Ice Beam does wonders but I don't find myself using Focus Blast all that much but it comes in handy for T-tar. Leftovers just allows me to take hits a little better and therefore stay alive longer.

Being the physical monster that it is I went for the standard build Smogon recommended. I went for Stealth Rocks over Protect because Gliscor is pretty fast so Substitute works great as a replacement for scouting and it allows me to toxic stall walls and physical threats to dead. EQ prevents Gliscor from being aunt bait while giving it a powerful stab attack. I don't like to stall all that much so giving up on Protect didn't seem like a big deal, SR simply seemed like the better option for me.

The standard set makes my defensive core rather hard to break down especially with fire moves being weakened thanks to rain. Ferrothorn really backs up Gliscor and I manage to get up all my hazards in most matches. T-wave makes it easier for Alakazam and Tornadus-T to run through other peoples team. Leech Seed is great for stalling my opponent out while my Ferrothorn stays in tip top shape and Gyro Ball is a great stab move that helps against many pokes.

Let me tell you, this guy actually works well with ferrothorn and Gliscor. He is able to switch in on incoming fire and ice attacks that are aimed for my walls, he don't take them very well but he can take them and sometimes retaliate with its skill linking moves. I went with a physical set because I already have 3 special attacker in form of Alakazam, Politoed and Tornadus-T. I don't actually Smash all that often, usually this guy just works as a check so I just go for a attacking move right off the bat.

This guy has yet to fail me, with this set he does so much work. Everytime I send in this guy my opponent more or less have to sack a guy. I don't appreciate priority attack but is capable of taking 1 unboosted one most of the time. I sometimes wish I had a Focus Sash instead but the Life Orb boost is just so good allowing me to 2 shot almost everything. Hidden Power Fire takes care of Scizor, Breloom, Genesect and Jirachi. I have always underrated this guy.

Last but not least, this guy. He sometimes work as a u-turn lead but its late game his wings really spread, when everything is weakened this thing just comes in and just send them flying away. I was considering putting superpower on it but focus blast works so well although it don't got the best accuracy. Hidden Power Ice is there to take care of dragon types mainly but I don't use it that often.

Most Wanted: THREATS!
This team hate pokes that set up or uses sub. Breloom, Gyarados and Genesect is a pain to deal with and if one of my walls fall, I more or less have to sack 1 guy every time they bring in a offensive Pokemon. I don't mind replacing any of the pokemon, its not much of a weather team anyway.

This took ages to write so I hope you'll help me out! I had somewhat fun making this so............

Thank you for reading and I hope to see your comments as soon as possible!

You should've put the moveset, nature, EV's and all that. Not just explanations. but nice team.

mostwanted edit: It's fine but if he adds an importable to the team, that'd be great.

Use Timid nature on Tornadus-T otherwise base 110's like latios outspeed. Drop Hidden Power Fire on Alakazam because it's weakened by the rain and, the things you mentioned will either force him out or you will be able to kill them with Psychic. I would normally use SR on Ferro over Gliscor, but that does put a lot of pressure on Ferro so idk. Other than that it looks pretty good

Great team, Avizion!

I highly suggest LifeOrb> FocusSash on Alakazam to keep from being OHKO'ed, if you're trapped onto the field by Scizor; who'd have a solid Pursuit KO. It also helps defeat threats like Scarfed Terrakion who'd threaten a KO w/ Stone Edge or X-Scissor.

I also support Real World Order's suggestion of Modest>Timid on Tornadus-T, to, as also previously mentioned, outpace base 110 Speed threats. I also support dropping HP(Fire) and replacing it for, maybe, ChargeBeam. ChargeBeam would give Alakazam the opportunity to come in on a weakened Pokemon that doesn't resist it and KO them while building up a possible Sp.Attack boost. This could come in handy for mid-game/late-game sweeping. With SR & Spikes support(Not to mention not taking residual damage from opposing hazards), Alakazam becomes an even more efficient sweeper as it builds up its Sp.Attack.

My final suggestion would be Encore> PerishSong on Politoed to stop threats from setting up to sweep & BatonPassing(As you mentioned, Substitute users are a drag) stat boosts or a Sub. It also puts pressure on the foe to switch, giving them barely enough time to set up any thing that could sweep your team.

At any rate, good luck w/ your team! :)

I do wonder how the hell is cloyster supposed to sponge FIRE attacks? >_> (when almost all of them bar random fire punch/flare blitz are SPECIAL BASED...)

In rain it can somewhat take them. I added Perish Song and made Tornadus-T timid.
I still don't like this team, it got too many weaknesses, mainly scarfers.

Avizion, you said previously that you have a weakness to Scarfed Pokemon. I don't really see a weakness to any Scarfed users outside of Haxorus, Genesect, or Terrakion. Your true weakness lies in opposing weather teams, in my honest opinion.

Also, sending in Closter on a Fire type attack, as brought to question by Alice,
I do wonder how the hell is cloyster supposed to sponge FIRE attacks? >_> (when almost all of them bar random fire punch/flare blitz are SPECIAL BASED...)
, needs to be addressed. As Fire attacks such as LavaPlume, FirePunch, FlareBlitz, etc. may be weakened under the Rain overcast, their chance of burning Cloyster and crippling its Attack still stands. W/ Cloyster's need of raw power, after a Shellsmash ofcourse, can't afford to be put at risk if it is going to be an efficient sweeper. Alice also made a valid point that most of them are Sp.Attacks and therefore damage Cloyster more than a physical attack would; Fire type or not. Just a heads up.
