- Iron Defense / Tachyon Cutter
[SET COMMENTS]
Calm Mind Iron Crown is a potent setup sweeper in the tier. With decent bulk and useful resistance, it is able to set up on some offensive Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Tornadus-T as well as ignore Toxic from passive Pokemon like Alomomola. Maximum Speed investment with just 172 Special Attack EVs ensures Iron Crown gets a Speed boost from Quark Drive, allowing it to outspeed many popular threats in the tier such as Tapu Koko, Tornadus-T, and Zamazenta alongside common Choice Scarf users like Tapu Lele and Urshifu-R, so it can set up first against the former foes and not be revenge killed by the latter. Focus Blast is a powerful coverage move that hits Dark-type Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Hisuian Samurott, which are immune to Stored Power, for super effective damage. Iron Defense complements Calm Mind to turn Iron Crown into a nigh-indestructible powerhouse and provides a boost to Stored Power, while Tachyon Cutter can be used for its immediate damage output against Fairy-types and Garganacl or to better deal with opposing Psychic-type Pokemon such as Iron Boulder and Mega Latias better. Tera Fighting makes Focus Blast a STAB move, allowing it to OHKO Heatran unboosted and Ferrothorn at +1, as well as giving Iron Crown a resistance to Dark-type moves from Darkrai and Tyranitar that it would be weak to otherwise. Tera Flying provides an immunity to Ground-type moves from Landorus-T and Garchomp and a resistance to Fighting-type moves from the likes of Zamazenta, and is a better defensive type overall due to it only having a few weaknesses. Calm Mind Iron Crown only becomes dangerous after a few boosts, therefore, dual screens setters like Grimmsnarl and Tapu Koko are exceptional partners, as their screens provide more opportunities for Iron Crown to start setting up. Iron Crown also has great synergy with Tapu Lele, which provides Psychic Terrain to prevent it from being revenge killed by priority moves like Thunder Clap from Raging Bolt and Sucker Punch from Hisuian Samurott and Mega Mawile, as well as increase the damage of Stored Power.
