Lunala is a dangerous special sweeper and wallbreaker in Ubers. Moongeist Beam is incredibly spammable with the scarcity of Ghost resistances in the tier, threatening several prominent Pokemon like Calyrex-I, Necrozma-DM, and Tera Ghost Pokemon like Koraidon and Arceus. Its good coverage in Moonblast and STAB Psyshock allows it to even threaten Pokemon that can take Moongeist Beam, like Kyogre, Eternatus, boosted Calm Mind Arceus-Fairy, and Ting-Lu. Shadow Shield gives Lunala ample opportunity to set up despite its awful defensive typing, especially if it runs Moonlight. Shadow Shield also allows Lunala to act as an emergency check to Pokemon like Scale Shot Koraidon, Zacian-C, Eternatus, and Calyrex-I, providing valuable defensive utility even to offensive teams. However, Lunala is one of the biggest victims of four moveslot syndrome in the tier.

With Calm Mind, Shadow Shield, and its great base stats, Lunala becomes a dangerous sweeper on hyper offense teams. Psyshock is a powerful weapon against Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Eternatus, and Extreme Killer Arceus, which would otherwise be able to take boosted Moongeist Beams and Moonblasts comfortably. Psyshock also helps Lunala win Calm Mind wars against Arceus-Fairy and threatens boosted Scale Shot Koraidon, even if Terastallized, thanks to Psyshock targeting Koraidon's lowered Defense. Moonblast gives Lunala a way to hit Dark-types, like Kingambit, Ting-Lu, and Tera Dark Ho-Oh, while still immediately threatening Koraidon. Moonlight allows Lunala to replenish Shadow Shield, giving it more opportunities to set up throughout a game and strengthening its role as an emergency check to Koraidon, Zacian-C, Eternatus, and Calyrex-I. Heavy-Duty Boots ensures Shadow Shield stays active even in the face of entry hazards and allows Lunala to threaten Sticky Web teams more effectively. Modest is preferred as it helps Lunala break past Ho-Oh, Arceus-Fairy, and Arceus-Water, while still being faster than Zacian-C after Sticky Web. Timid is useful to outspeed Choice Scarf Kyogre after Sticky Web and unboosted Kyurem-B, but the drop in power is noticeable. Tera Fairy is preferred for its resistance to Dark and immunity to Dragon, allowing Lunala to turn the tables on Pokemon like Kingambit and boosted Scale Shot Koraidon. Tera Fairy providing STAB on Moonblast also allows Lunala to potentially get past Pokemon like Extreme Killer Arceus and Ting-Lu, which can otherwise comfortably take +1 Moonblast. Tera Ghost allows Lunala to close the gap against Pokemon that would otherwise barely survive +1 Moongeist Beam, like Tera Fire Koraidon and Zacian-C, as well as pressuring Ho-Oh and Kyogre more effectively without Psyshock. Tera Ghost also gives Lunala more freedom to run a Timid nature, alleviating power issues it would normally be plagued by without Modest.

A set using Meteor Beam and Agility can be used to lure Ho-Oh and become a decent cleaner, with 200 Speed EVs and a Timid Nature being sufficient to outspeed +1 Koraidon. However, its reliance on Power Herb makes it incapable of running Heavy-Duty Boots, which in conjunction with the set’s low bulk investment and inability to use Moonlight, means it struggles to find opportunities to set up. Furthermore, this set is outdone by Eternatus, whose greater bulk and speed makes it more consistent overall.
