Code Geass

Soo there's this really awesome and well-received anime from a few years ago that I just started rewatching, and I was wondering if any of you smogoners also love it. If you haven't yet, go watch it!

Code Geass is basically about an outcast prince, Lelouch Lamperouge, going through high school under a new identity as he vies to tear down the dystopian empire of his father. He gets superpowers from an ageless girl, and amasses followers to achieve his goal. The show has really good production quality and mech fights but what really makes it great is the drama. It deals heavily with justice, the ethics of war, death, and friendship.

I've watched it like 5-6 months ago and I loved it, it was one of the only time I actually enjoyed an ending, this one was just perfect for me.

I watched this I think a couple years back, and again last year...Definitely one of my all-time favorite animes.

Saw it years ago, still has the best ending of all time. Jeb once masturbated to the main character of Ouran Highschool Host Club btw.

Watched the first season and liked it but had a hard time finding the second season at the time and never got back into it. There were a few silly plot devices I remember hating (that accidental use of his Geass on that one chick toward the end of the first season comes to mind, felt like a huge stretch though the translation might not have been helping) but since that's one of those genre mainstays I've come to expect it didn't hurt my enjoyment too much... I should probably finish this once I get through Game of Thrones

I'm actually in the middle of watching season 2 for the first time right now, and honestly I think season 1 was better. Either way, this is a fantastic anime and I currently have loved every single episode.

poor shirley =(

Code Geass is one hell of a anime(my favorite). It's obviously flawed, but insanely fun to watch for the most part. I find that turning your brain off while you watch it makes it more enjoyable (and even then I don't the show is "dumb" barring ONE part. You'll know it when you see it, trust me). Lelouch is the best bishie.

Wasn't a big fan of the series. Now can we just get a fucking subforum for all these anime threads already. geesh

edit: tv shows too. also video games. i guess manga as well.

GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT?

I watched a few years back and I really enjoyed the first season. It was silly and all but I ha fun with it. Second season wasn't as good but had cooler mech fight so that made up or it.

And yeah I liked the ending a lot so that was a good thing about the second season too I guess.

saw it a couple years ago... an interesting plot and stuff ! recently was relased the forst part of "code geass gaiden boukoku no akito" and also "nunnally in wonderland" <3

shirley ;-; mao was like the perfect villain, he broke everyone down

Yeah, it was a little clear that Lelouch was running out of challenges, but that the series wasn't ready to end, so they just threw in a random tragedy to reignite the war. I guess it works for me because I fall for those sad deaths regardless, and because it was sort of set out in the beginning episodes that Lelouch was going to kill the whole royal family

Really, I didn't feel Euphemia's death was that out there. They had established earlier that the Geass powers were fallible with Mao, and iirc, there were several moments that C.C. told Lelouch to be careful/not to rely too much on them. It may have seemed contrived to keep the story alive, but it was set up, to which it paid off. Also, it was pretty legitimately sad the first time I saw it, and it's not like that's the dumbest thing to occur in an anime.

s1 is awesome and one of my all time favorite anime. s2 I still enjoyed but much less so due to the worse writing. At least it wasn't Guilty Crown.

HOLY FUCK THE EUPHEMIA THING...while tragic...WAS FUCKING ANNOYING.

Seriously, whose first example is "I could make you slaughter all of the Japanese if I want??? I'd say...I could make you do a cartwheel. Or jump on one foot. Or lick your own nose. Or something less fucking retarded in a colloquial setting. I knowwwww it was a plot point but it was a stupid one.

"lol haha i could make you slaughter thousands"

I really wish it had ended with the first season rather than having the showrunners re-write the original ending and tacking on a significantly worse second season to finish it up... I enjoyed my time with it enough and I think this was one of the last anime series I ever really watched.

I also really disliked the Euphemia death

Pizza Hut!

I'm sorry but every chess game is so laughable to anyone who has actually played the game, not to even mention the "stakes" they place on every game.

That being said this show is awesome.

mcmeggers recommended this one to me, saying it was 'death note with mechas'

that's pretty much true, although death note is still a tad better

the ending is amazing

I watched it when the series first came out in the U.S. and I have completely loved it ever since. I even have an avatar based from the main character, Zero, being made now and I have just said that Code Geass was my favorite Gundam series. And before that, I looked in the forum and found this here.

I absolutely loved the last few shows too!

And then I occupied myself with another show called Death Note afterwards, but I'm sure that nobody here has ever heard of that show before (I like Code Geass better, just slightly).
