ok, so I heard a lot of talk about explosion OHKOing blissey, but it didn't make sense everyone was talking about that but not focus punch- surely being SE, focus punch would be MORE likely to OHKO than explosion, but without the side effect?
So I ran the calcs on it, and came up with the following figures; (all based on 252/252 blissey and 204 gengar)
Focus punch hits blissey for 71.99%-84.73%
Explosion hits blissey for 119.61% - 140.76%
So clearly explosion is way more powerful... but why? I decided to check what a normal, base 250 power move would do to blissey using metalkids program (best I found on google).
Normal base 250 power hits blissey for 59.80% - 70.31%
so... there's something clearly different about explosion. Just from looking at it, I can see that explosion is obviously doing twice the damage of a normal base 250 power attack. So either- explosion is ACTUALLY a fighting attack, or it just does double damage. So I'll run a quick test on steelix-
Fighting base 250 hits steelix for 58.19% - 68.36%
Explosion hits steelix for 29.10% - 34.18%
So according to all this, explosion hits at twice what it's base power would suggest. Is that right? Sorry for all the talk, it's just been something I've wondered about for a while. Would it not be easier to say explosion has a base power of 500?
