Following my success with a Lucario/Blissey/Skarmory/Scolipede/Gyarados/Latios set in OU, I dared to set foot in Ubers. I've been using this set, and I think that so far, so good:
Dialga @ Lum Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Draco Meteor
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Blast
Dialga is my preferred lead, aiming to set up Stealth Rock or cripple with Thunder Wave. Lum Berry allows it to happily absorb Darkrai's shenanigans, usually paralyzing it with Thunder Wave before demolishing it. Maximum investment in HP allows it to tank most things, even an Earthquake from Ho-oh, whereas maximum Special Attack with a Modest nature enables it to smash almost everything with a Draco Meteor as a parting shot. For consistent damage, and for steel-types like Jirachi or Skarmory, there's the option of Fire Blast.
Darkrai @ Focus Sash
Ability: Bad Dreams
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dark Void
- Dark Pulse
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
Darkrai is my other preferred lead, as it almost always outspeeds almost all the metagame, and can quickly put to sleep such threats as Kyogre, Groudon, Ho-oh or Dialga. This will allow at least one free turn of set up with Nasty plot, following which Darkrai can start firing off Dark Pulses everywhere. Focus Sash will also allow Darkrai to silence Mewtwo, Shaymin-S and Scarf users. Focus Blast is essential coverage against most things that resist Dark. Darkrai is also an answer to Wobbuffet.
Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Focus Blast
About the best (and worst) thing X&Y brought to Ubers is Xerneas. Although hardly a new idea, Power Herb allows Xeneas to set up Geomancy in just one turn (which is more than likely, given that it outspeeds a majority of the metagame and can usually take at least one hit from all else) and then proceed to sweep entire teams. A +2 STAB Moonblast powered by Fairy Aura usually spells doom even for Blissey! Thunder is for things like Lugia, Ho-oh or Kyogre that can pose problems, while Focus Blast is for optimum coverage. Geomancy also significantly bulks up Xerneas on the special side, allowing it to take a hit or two itself.
Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Water Spout
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Thunder
Even with the nerf to rain, Scarf Kyogre is by no means dampener. Not much can take a double-boosted Water Spout off a titanic 150 Special Attack, which is only boosted by a Modest nature. Ice beam and Thunder will almost never be used unless faced with a Palkia/Lugia etc. Scald is for when Kyogre's HP falls below 64%; the burn chance thereof is also useful.
Lugia @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 208 HP / 48 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Toxic
- Dragon Tail
Lugia is here to wall with SubRoost and to stall with Toxic. Maximum investment in speed allows Lugia to outspeed several common threats, while Multiscale, coupled with Lugia's titanic defences, will ensure a survival on any hit. 208 HP EVs allow for Substitutes that can't be broken by Seismic Toss. The remaing EVs bolter defence. Dragon Tail is the preferred phazing move, as it can hit through taunt and is Lugia's only attacking choice.
Arceus - Normal @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Extreme Speed
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance
ExtremeKiller Arceus has little explanation to give; It sets up a Swords Dance or two, and spams Extreme Speed. Shadow Claw is for the likes of Lugia, Giratina, Ghost Arceus and Wbbuffet, while Earthquake puts a dent in most steel-types. Maximum investment goes to speed and attack to uotrun Lugia and tie with other Arceus formes even when not using Extreme Speed, as Arceus has the bulk to take a hit or two anyhow. Silk Scarf provides a nice buff to the main move without causing recoil.
Apart from this, I have Listed out a few of my main quandaries:
1. Should I consider Ho-oh? Ho-oh @ Life Orb with max. Attack and Speed can run Flame Charge/ Sacred Fire/ Earthquake/ Brave Bird to disastrous effect, with Flame Charge boosting up Ho-oh's speed, and Regenerator recovering the health lost by Brave Bird and Life Orb. If I do consider this, what do I kick out?
2. Do I need Blissey? I could use something that knows Wish and Heal Bell/Aromatherapy and which can also help stall with Toxic/Thunder Wave, but I have Dialga and Lugia for both paralysis and poison. Also, I notice that Xerneas can learn Aromatherapy. Should I make room there, or is it a waste?
3. What about a Dragon type? I always loved dragons; they are my favourites, and I use them a lot in OU. But here I have only Dialga, and his role is more support than offence. So do I make room for Rayquaza or Latios or any other Dragon, and if I do, at what cost?
That's it. Any other opinions, suggestions and criticisms are welcome.
