What is the Construction Site?
In short, the Construction Site is a new way we'll be testing balance and system changes to BBP before they go live.
Each change or set of changes we want to test will be posted in this thread as a Prompt, formatted much like a Battle Tower challenge. Prompts will describe test scenario that players must meet to obtain rewards, such as evaluating a certain matchup.
Players are expected to coordinate to engineer the scenario being tested, such as a certain Pokemon match-up. The scenario needs to be fulfilled for players to receive rewards.
Because the objective of these prompts is to gather information, competitive etiquette is relaxed in several ways:
- Comments from onlookers are welcome in the battle threads, so long as the thread isn't derailed from testing the prompt.
- Players, referees, and onlookers may freely speculate about the battle and discuss possible plays or courses of action.
- Players may request to replay a round that went poorly due to a play oversight, to explore it "properly".
- Players in different test battles for the same prompt are welcome to compare notes and conclusions.
Prompts may also require that players bring additional Pokemon to reach a minimum team size; in these cases, any required Pokemon will start the battle on the player's bench, so that they see play.
How do I help?
You can help by playing test matches in this subforum, or especially by refereeing those test matches.
Each player may play in each prompt once; whether their battle is stamped or not (see below). No such limit exists for referees.
As you post, use your freedom of commentary to discuss the testing prompt. Aim to capture:
- Your feelings as you order or counter-order,
- factors influencing your decision-making,
- differences in your play incentives compared to the live play environment,
- ease or difficulty in deciding what would be best to do,
- interactions you find unclear or unintuitive that you expect will confuse other users,
- and anything else that you feel is relevant and productive to mention.
On the BBP Discord (cw: Discord link), we also have a matching subforum for discussing testing prompts:
For moderators: Ensure prompts sourced from the playerbase have clear objectives and balanced teams, or we can expect the prompt to be difficult to fill or to produce confused data.
