Cores are an important part of teambuilding in pokemon, with a considerable selection of cores existing for each different playstyle. But what if you knew exactly what core the enemy would be running, and the enemy knew the same about you?

This is the premise of the UU Cores in Common Tournament! Each round, the hosts will provide a particular core of two pokemon, with blank sets and you will be required to build a team featuring this core, however the actual sets chosen are up to you. For example,

The catch of the tournament is that all players will go into teambuilding knowing what core they need to break, but also have an idea of what the enemy may be running to deal with their own team, enabling them to plan around their own most likely counters. For example, for the case above you may decide that the enemy is likely to be running an Electrium-Z Latias, and try to build with this in mind. You may also try to subvert expectations about your specific core by running unusual sets on them to catch counters unaware!
