*teehee* I've been wanting to post that kid for a long time.
Anyway, hello, I'm Eidenhoek. Eiden works for shorthand references to me. Honestly, DHR would work as well, since that's a nick from other places. Also, I am Eidenhoek on Shoddy (surprise!).
I've been lurking for quite some time before joining here (or downloading shoddy, for that matter >_>), thus I should know toward what I want this team to aim. As it happens, however, I cannot apply any knowledge I seem to have (and thus as for help). That explains any/all stupid choices/sets/etc. Enough of the intro.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Team concept:
As noted in the title, I want to try to utilize Cosmic Power Jirachi. No, not Calm Mind; Cosmic Power is the move that raises both defenses one stage. Why try this? I want to use a pokemon extremely bulky. Given Jirachi's even stats, along with access to CP, it seems to be a good candidate.
Pokemon 1: Jirachi
Conceptually, I need the other 5 pokemon to support Jirachi in some way. This could be through weakening the opposition to allow Jirachi to come in and stall, wish passing, baton passing, SRing, etc. I have 5 pokemon to work with (as do you when helping me
Position: Lead: Stealth Rock Lead (Dugtrio
I can't think of another type of lead that would help a team more overall. I suppose an "anti-lead" would work, but that seems to disrupt the opponent over helping my team.
So that's 4 pokemon left. I figure that I might as well try out some baton passing (I like the concept), and since Jirachi could easily go physical or special, why not have one of each?
Position: Physical Support: Swords Dance Baton Passer (Gliscor
Position: Special Support: Nasty Plot Baton Passer (Togekiss
So far I have one pokemon set in stone (CP Jirachi), and three concepts: SR lead, and a Baton Passer for Attack and Special Attack. Wish support (or healing, if you will) helps out any team (especially a stall-type), thus:
Position: Cleric: Wish user (Vaporeon
There is one spot left. I have my main pokemon, pokemon that can boost either attacking stat, someone to stealth rock, and a wisher. It seems the last member is the most variable, as there are many ways to help out this team. I have chosen a powerful banded pokemon, just to help hurt the opposing side.
Position: Midgame Threat: Choice Band Sweeper (Scizor
Notes on edits:
Vaporeon switched to Tentacruel. Why? Both are somewhat bulky, and both help the team overall. Vaporeon healed, but with some modifications to Jirachi, Wish is no longer an issue. Thus, more residual damage in Toxic Spikes seems to be useful, along with Rapid Spin and Knock Off.
Position: Toxic Spiker: General Utility and Nuisance (Tentacruel
Given what I did to Jirachi (see her section...its section), I no longer have much of a special-attacking force on my team. The current Togekiss set, then, is nigh-useless. I still like Nasty Plot, though, and a "Special Sweeper" if you will would complement the strong physical presence of Scizor. Thus:
Position: Special Threat: Nasty Plot Sweeper (Porygon-Z
Above is my general thought process. Here I place my team in a row (yay
Things that cannot change:
Jirachi, using Cosmic Power
-This is the idea behind the team. A good, effective idea? Perhaps not. But I want to see how good this team can be. Changing this changes the whole concept of the team.
Things that can change:
Moves (not CP)
Natures
EV spreads
Other pokemon
-If anything needs to be changed (>_>), do try to tell me why X pokemon with Y EVs will help the central idea. If you replace, say, Vaporeon, tell me why I should lose wish in favor of something else, or why another wish user is better.
Oh. "Please". Put that after every request I've made thus far. Please.
The Team! (aka posting specific information about the members and reasons as to why everything is as it is)
Dugtrio (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
As I said before, I want a Stealth Rock user. They need to be fast (ideally), and Dugtrio is fast. But why, say, not Aerodactyl? Dugtrio is also a trapper. I think that's pretty cool, and I haven't yet used him in my crazy experiments on Shoddy. Hopefully I can use him later and/or use the fact that my opponent knows he exists to trip them up.
SR is a given, and Protect is suggested in the analysis if one wants to use this as a Stealth Rock lead. I can see the merits of Protect for scouting. I think EdgeQuake gives decent coverage. It'll hit relatively hard, in any case. Sash to take a hit, etc. I've maxed speed and attack to go as fast as possible and hit as hard as possible (surprise >_>)
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/116 Atk/70 Def/72 SDef 252 HP/128 Def/130 SDef
Quiet nature (+SAtk, -Spd) Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Cosmic Power
- Substitute
- Iron Head/Thunderbolt/Psychic/Attackingmovehere
- Thunderbolt Wish
Obviously Jirachi is going here. That's the theme of the team. Same with Cosmic Power.
Changes are: bold is new, italics are old. I need to figure out how to do "strikethrough".
I looked at the CMrachi spread, and realized that I want something different. I want substitute to protect from crits. I want lefties for more subs.
Wish was taken from Vaporeon and placed here at wildfire's suggestion, thus Jirachi might be switched in a touch more often. It also acts as a somewhat-reliable self-heal for when the epix stallz happen <_<.
As to the slashitis: I need help here. I only get one move on this set, so what's the best one? T-bolt has immunities, as does Psychic. Hence why I went for Iron Head. This hits rocks hard, but...yeah.
Gliscor (F) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP/60 Spd/196 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Agility
- Baton Pass
- Taunt
- Swords Dance
Here's where I boost attack and speed. This is pretty much...I think it is an exact C&P from the analysis.
It's a baton passer, so there's not a *whole* lot of explanation for him, but anyway: This guy can sponge physical hits, albeit being unable to do anything about it. Agility on something that won't kill me, taunt the switch in, and BP as many SDs as possible to Jirachi (or Scizor, for that matter).
Porygonz @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 HP/192 Spd/64 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Tri Attack
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
Togekiss and Porygon-Z are the same, right? >_>
So I went from something that could take a special hit in a pinch and pass NPs to something that is frail, NPs itself, and dies. I'd like Wish support from Jirachi, who's neutral vs. fighting. I suppose it might work. In any sense, I see this coming in before/after Scizor, possibly after a death, and killing as much as possible before death. I don't think he'll make it through many battles, honestly. I see him as an expendable glass cannon. Firing glass death.
Tentacruel (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP/120 Def/136 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Surf
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
One of the more interesting members, to be honest. Yes, analysis, blah blah blah. Go ahead and read it.
Now then, the Toxic Spikes are important, since they're my biggest source of damage once my power (Scizor/Pory/Duggy) goes down. Knock Off...is knock off. It's helpful. Rapid Spin? Honestly, I don't think residual damage is *too* big an issue except for one pokemon:
Dugtrio.
As I see it, Dugtrio's going to be at 1 hp after turn 2. If I can switch him out, he's death fodder and might revenge kill something. If he can switch in safely. Thus RS. On the note of Toxic Spikes needing to exist, need I a ghost?
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/6 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
This is from the analysis too. I'll explain why I chose him, at least.
I've been on Smogon, lurking, since before Platinum. After Platinum, it's BP Scizor this, BP Scizor that, BP Scizor with a baseball bat. Given that I wanted a sweeper in the last slot, Scizor was a good choice. Or Lucario, for that matter. Stupid steel-types *shake fist*
Band over the SD variety because I'll assume I will be able to pass it more attack if necessary. I do very much like BP's priority, by the way. I won't explain the set; the analysis does that nicely.
Old Members:
Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 130 HP/252 Def/128 Spd
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Roar
- Protect
- Surf
Again, this should look somewhat familiar if you're familiar with the analysis for Vaporeon.
I've done something interesting (stupid): I used a mixed of the wish and bp sets. The EVs are for a Baton Passer, yet I'm not using Baton Pass. Wish heals everyone, which I like, and Roar phazes other stat-uppers. Protect, as with Dugs, is useful, and surf is a decent enough attack for a one-attack set. I expect my EVs to get changed.
Togekiss (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/192 Spd/64 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Baton Pass
- Nasty Plot
- Substitute
- Air Slash
Read Gliscor, exept for Special Attack. Yay analyses!
Being somewhat more in-depth here:
Lefties over Lum to help with making substitutes (which block status). Nasty Plot is the purpose of the set, and Air Slash is a fun, not-annoying-at-all move that will do some decent damage if necessary. I plan to sub, plot, pass most of the time, though. Note that this is something of my "special wall", if you will, as a counterpart to Gliscor.
Outro:
Sorry for not doing more research on this. I could have found magic speed numbers for these guys, but then again, I used a lot of the analyses on here. I figure that's why the EVs are there.
I hope CPrachi isn't too gimmicky of an idea. I do see the issue with not focusing on one attack type (Atk or SAtk) on Jirachi, as well as a heavy reliance on my baton passers to do any real damage. That said, this is a horrible stall team (no spikes, could have more walls), thus perhaps CPrachi won't even function well conceptually on this team.
Ah, another new thing: need I a ghost to block Rapid Spin? It seems so. Which one and who to replace? (Methinks Pory -> Rotom, but anyway...)
Last note: Change anything aside from Cosmic Power on Jirachi. Please.
