I present to you: The Counter Team
Ever since Pokemon Black and White came out, I really became interested in Pokemon competitive battling, but I simply did not have the time to breed perfect IV Pokemon after I realized that it took over a month to breed a good Excadrill. When Pokemon X and Y came out and it's new breeding mechanics had been introduced, I brought the game, finished it and got ready to breed the ultimate team. I started to play Pokemon Showdown, a battle simulator so I could test teams and to breed a well team. I am not playing this team too competitively but will be going online on occasions and WiFi battle people.
The Team
My strategy for this team is to start with Gliscor who is an anti-hazard setup machine. Trevenant, Cloyster and Talonflame are to take out any easy Pokemon kills. Garchomp and Klefki are my main sweepers. Taking out fairy types and ice types will be my second priority so Garchomp can sweep easily but Klefki's Swagger and Thunderwave can annoy the opponent at times.
Trevenant @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SDef
Careful Nature
- Horn Leech
- Shadow Claw
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
Since this team relies on switching out, I think natural cure will be great for Trevenant instead of Harvest, being paralyzed by an opponent's ability will be no worry for this guy. Trevenant is very bulky so Leftovers, Natural Cure, Horn Leech and Rest will make him stay in the game for a while to Will-O-Wisp the physical attack sweepers.
Cloyster @ Never-Melt Ice
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Rapid Spin
Playing on Pokemon Showdown, I realized that Entry Hazards are so common so I chucked Rapid Spin on this guy. You may ask why I don't have a water type move and the answer to that is because rock blast is super effective against fire, with skill link it will hit a guaranteed five times so that is basically 125 damage all together excluding stats. Icicle Spear for the same reason and Shell Smash so I can sweep when the rest of the opponents team can be killed by Cloyster.
Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 132 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Steel Wing
At first seeing this guy, I thought that Charizard would have been so much better but when I saw Gale Wings, I knew this guy was supposed to be on my team. This Talonflame has three different types of attacks meaning that Talonflame can take down many different types of Pokemon and Sword's Dance when I have a free turn where I won't get killed.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 140 HP / 116 Spd / 252 Atk
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
Gliscor is my lead Pokemon which sets up an entry hazard and also can stop other Pokemon from putting in Entry Hazards with it's Taunt. Earthquake can take down a lot of Pokemon due to it's high attack power and U-Turn is for when I am most likely gonna get OHKO'ed so I can do some free damage and swap into a better Pokemon.
Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
Garchomp was the Pokemon that I had difficulty with when beating Cynthia. Outrage does tons of damage and will generally last for a while making him a really strong sweeper. Iron Head is to take out any fairies that have low defense. With Choice Scarf and it's Jolly nature, it probably will outspeed any Pokemon that have not used any Speed enhancing moves.
Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Substitute
- Swagger
- Foul Play
Klefki is my anti-dragon Pokemon and often relies on luck. I can substitute so I can Swagger without getting hit, and thunder wave so I can go first with my Foul Play. Klefki can often sweep just by using Swagger.
