Other Metagames Crashing Rain - Balanced Monotype Water team

Hey guys this is Chompers aka Rhalekin, here to bring you my rmt of this awesome water team i made with a little help from kaiser. This Team might not fit the "Starter team" view of point, but its one damn fun team to use.

Accomplishments: At the moment, its been doing very well for me at the moment, not anything amazing like number 1 on ladder, but it will have its time (Currently 10-1 atm).

Heres the team:

I wanted to try something different with water by using Mega Swampert and using its strong ability, stats, its immunity to electric and its cool movepool like rocks and earthquake to its full potential.
260.png

Always need a pokemon for rain and politoed is 100% always the best choice.
186.png

Liked a bulky wall and typing and needed someone to take in electric moves once swam is gone.
171.png

Realized i didnt have a spinner or anything to counter mega venusaur and starmie is always a good special attacker and very fast.
121.png

A poke that needs some love on water and has amazing type and ability to work on a rain team, i chose kingdra because it could be really useful.
230.png

Finally i wanted a wallbreaker and a strong one at that, i chose crawdaunt because its a freaking crawdaunt and it would do well against other types.

This team is like my bread and butter and i love my bread and butter. It makes me feel good to use water teams and see how creative i can get. Now we got that outa of the way, lets see how this team works and functions

starmie.gif

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump

I needed a Mega venusaur counter and a possible spinner and starmie was the answer. Ev's is standard, Psychic is for the usual types fighting, poison, etc and ESPECIALLY mega venusaur which can be pretty freaking annoying. Hydro pump is its water stab, ice beam for coverage, and rapid spin is to deal with hazards which are annoying.

politoed.gif

Politoed @ Eject Button
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Encore
- Ice Beam

Obvious choice for a rain pokemon and a useful one it is. Rain gives off stab water moves to this whole team which is pretty cool. Set is straight foward, scald as stab (and maybe some burns), ice beam for leading dragon pokemon, toxic to break stallers, and encore is for pokemon who try to set up like a dragonite. Eject button is for getting out politoed and into a swift swim pokemon like kingdra or mega swampert to start doing damage.

kingdra.gif

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire] -> Dragon Pulse (As suggested by laxuy)

Team was based around using this pokemon and it brought in no disappointment. Kingdra is my best special attacker on this team, Specs Modest hits super hard and with that swift swim for speed, its a scary mon to see. Hydro Pump is for a hard stab, Draco Meteor is another hard stab, Ice beam is for coverage, and HP Fire is for pokemon like scizor and ferrothorn which can be a pest to deal with, dragon pulse is for a good dragon attack i can spam rather than using draco and switching out every turn.

lanturn.gif

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave
- Volt Switch
- Scald

Good old lanturn is my electric vacuum. Lanturn is a awesome pick to wall a whole team of electric mons and does a good job of it. Ev's i put max defense to eat up some pokes hit like close combat from a terrakion and retaliate. Set pretty straight forward, Scald is for water stab (and maybe burns), Volt switch is its electric stab and keep momentum, Thunder wave is to slow down some speedy pokemon that might be a problem, and heal bell is to heal up some pokemon with status.

crawdaunt.gif

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet
- Crabhammer

My Strong heavy hitter. Crawdaunt does wonders to break walls and sweep with its Life orb Adap Swords dance combo, it can destroy lives. Swords Dance is to set up for a possible sweep, Knock off is hits dark stab and can remove stall pokemon like chansey and zapdos, Crabhammer is its fierce hard hitting water stab, and aqua jet is for priority.

swampert-mega.gif

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

The main physical and mega of this team. Mega Swampert is very good in dealing some quick, good damage with its strong attack and speed thanks to swift swim, and is a good rocker as well. Stealth rocks is for hazards and breaking sashes, Waterfall is its water stab (and maybe some flinches), Earthquake is its Ground stab and deals with steel and electric pokes, and stone edge is there to deal with flying pokemon like zapdos and mandibuzz.

Shoutouts:

Stunfisk The Great Cool Guy and cc manager, keep it up.

pk-kaiser Let me borrow some elements from his team into this one to make a super cool team.

Dream Eater Gengar Just being a nice guy i guess.

AND I CANT FORGET THE IMP SQUAD.

Thank you for reading my first ever rmt, the presentation wasnt amazing but i tried my best, hope you enjoy the team!

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb

Grass Teams: They may not be common but they can still rape this team. I suggest using Your Ice moves and crawdaunt to cover as much as possible, and if theres a mega venu in your way, you got your trusty starmie.

Dragon Teams: Everywhere you go, theres always gonna be a dragon team in your way to stop your stab water moves to do a scratch. I suggest keeping your kingdra and doing lots of damage with draco meteor and ice beam, but thats pretty much the most you can do other than your other pokemon with ice beam.

Choompers I like the team it has variety not like most water teams but i think this team works really well and i will test it out myself. Not saying you're not a good battler + Builder but the team seems nice and i would like to use it i wont claim it as mine so dw, and also I like your Starmie set its a Fast Special Sweeper which is good on water teams

All right, decent looking team.

Some changes you could try:
Superpower/PuP>Stone Edge on Swampert - stone edge really isn't a necessity because supereffectively it hits 200 power while waterfall in rain hits 180. You could replace it with better coverage move or a boosting move like super power or power up punch.
Scald/Dragon Pulse>HP Fire on Kingdra - Because you are in the rain, HP fire on ferrothorn AND scizor won't do much at all because rain halves the damage so you would be better off searching for a scald burn or spamming hydro pump. You also said dragon teams are threats so spamming specs d pulse is better than draco then switching out and sacking.
Rest>Ice Beam on Politoed - Since Politoed's main function is pretty much only setting up rain, rest helps prolong your rain setter. You can rest up on turn then switch out the next and bring it back in relatively full.

Because it seems like you are looking for a more hyper offensive team, try replacing another swift swim mon or bd azu > lanturn because you have pert for your electric immunities already. No point in slapping on a fat mon that tanks hits and does little damage on your kind of team.
Mons you can include: Azumarill, Ludicolo, Kabutops others

Thanks Laxuy,

I have considered changing hp fire to dragon pulse because of what you said how it reduces the power of the move. I dont think superpower may cover many things other than normal pokemon like chansey or porygon which crawdaunt can just knock off and stone edge is good for dealing with pokemon like mandibuzz and kyurem-black, and as for the rest, i dont really would like it as i can be cautious to keep my politoed for good moments and ice beam is better to get rid of pokemon like mega pidgeot, garchomp, dragonite, etc. Thanks for the sugggestions tho!

Hey chompers cool looking team! Anyways, I have 1 suggestion. Because your weak to grass, I would actually run HP Fire over Rapid Spin on Starmie. Yea you lose the ability to spin hazards away, however, my buddy Ferro tried that set on his water, and it wrecked my grass team, it may do the same for you. You could also maybe replace Crawdaunt if you wanted with Feraligatr or Gyarados, but since Psychic is pretty popular rn, it's not a bad idea to have. Otherwise, nice job!

Thanks Stuny, i have thought about hp fire, but it might not really work out since hp fire under rain= poop damage. And i might think about adding gyarados, thanks for the suggestions.
