Cuddy's Gamebattles.com Spring 2010 Playoff Team [OU RMT]

GB Playoff Team [OU RMT]

Cuddy's Gamebattles Playoff Team

I am currently 3rd on the GB ladder and Spring 2010 playoffs are coming up. My goal was to build a Balanced-Offensive team. I started out by picking Lucario as my sweeper, then I found some great pokes to support it and then I covered all of the major threats I could think of off the top of my head. I would like to give a shout out to Xtrashine for helping me with this team. This team will be used in the upcoming Gamebattles.com Spring season playoffs so I need all the help I could get. The main problem is that I am winning, but the matches are way closer than I'd like them to be because of silly errors in the structure of my team. With your help, I could make this team WAY better than it currently is.

Swampert@Leftovers
Relaxed Naure
Ability:Torrent
EVs:252hp/252def/4atk
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Protect

This is the standard Mix Pert lead. Its primary job is to set up stealth rock. I opted to go with protect over Roar because when I'm against Jirachi leads, I can scout Trick and then switch to my latias to make trick useless. It has Earthquake for stab so It normally 2hkos metagross and Id protect up because Metagross might explode rather than switch out depending on what my opponent has for metagross.

Swampert Against the Top Ten Leads:

1. Azelf: I would Ice Beam on the taunt then protect to scout explosion.

2. Metagross: I would Earthquake then use protect to scout for explosion.

3. Swampert: I would steath rock then I'd Earthquake and protect stall until it dies.

4. Jirachi: I'd scout trick by using protect then go to my Latias.

5. Aerodactyl:Id Ice Beam on the Taunt and then Ice beam again to kill it off.

6. Infernape: I would protect on fake out and potentially scout a grass knot, then set up stealth rocks.

7. Roserade: ??? (need help with this one)

8. Heatran: Id Set up rocks and then use Earthquake if it stays in.

9. Tyranitar: I would set up rocks then Earthquake it.

10. Gliscor:Id Ice Beam it incase it uses taunt.

248.png

Tyranitar@ChoiceScarf
Jolly Nature
Ability: SandStream
EVs:252atk/252speed/4hp
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

I chose this guy because usually people expect a slow tyrnaitar but then get owned by this thing. He is my Gyarado's revenge killer for Scarfed Latias. I am thinking about chanhing Pursuit to Superpower because Latias normally stays in on pursuit, expecting a slow Tyranitar so Crunch works better for me. I'm thinking about changing pursuit to super power but I'm not quite sure yet.

380.png

Latias@ChoiceScarf
Timid Nature
Ability:Levitate
EVs:252spAtk/252spd/4hp
-Trick
-Thunderbolt
-DracoMeteor
-Surf

Latias is like the glue to my team. He can trick an icebeam in the late game so that Lucario or Gyra can sweep. Also, Latias is my Gyarados-Killer. Gyarados needs +2 speed with a jolly nature to outspeed me and most Gyras are Adamant so I really have no problems with Gyra. Same for Dragon Dancing Salamence and Kingdra. She also takes out opposing scarfers. Its also used to trap Trick Jirachi leads once Swampert scouts it.

467.png

Magnezone@Leftovers
Modest Nature
Ability:Magnet Pull
EVs:40HP/252SpAtk/216spd
-Substitute
-ThunderWave
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Grass

Magnezone has many capabilities on my team. It comes in on a bullet punch Directed at Tyranitar, then substitutes and then kills it off with tbolt. Same with scarf Jirachi. I also changed it from the regular "Steel Killer" to better benefit my team. I have come to see that Swampert occasionally comes in on Magnezone once Scizor is gone thinking it can revenge kill me with Earthquake, but Hidden Power Grass kills it with ease after Stealth rock damage.

THE SWEEPERS

130.png

Gyarados@Leftovers
Jolly Nature
Ability: Intimidate
EVs:252atk/252spd/4hp
-Dragon Dance
-Ice Fang
-Waterfall
-Earthquake

He comes around when its needed and if an opposing latias is out of the way. He sweeps through teams pretty easily after two dances. I opted to go with a Jolly (less power) Gyra over Adamant (less speed) so that I can outspeed Latias after +2 speed. There is really nothing else I can say about this since it is so commonly used in today's metagame.

THE STAR PLAYER
453.png

Lucario@LifeOrb
Adamant Nature
Ability:Inner Focus
EVs: 252atk/252spd/4def
-Swords Dance
-Crunch/Bullet Punch
-CloseCombat
-ExtremeSpeed

Once Scizor and Gengar are out of the way. I can sweep through teams pretty easily after stealth rock damage. The thing that stops me is Salamence but after stealth rock damage I can kill it off with a +1 extreme speed.

How Powerful is Lucario?

To show how powerful this set is, here are some calculations against many defensive Pokémon after a single Swords Dance. These calculations are assuming an Adamant nature.
  • Close Combat vs. max HP / Def Skarmory 84.4% - 99.7%
  • Close Combat vs. max HP / Def Bronzong: 95.2% - 100% (67% chance to OHKO)
  • Close Combat vs. max HP / Def Hippowdon: 75.7% - 89.3%
  • Close Combat vs. max HP / Def Forretress: 79.7% - 93.8%
  • Close Combat vs. max HP / Def Donphan: 82.0% - 96.9%
  • Crunch vs. max HP / Def Cresselia: 63.5% - 74.8%
  • Crunch vs. max HP Cresselia: 85.1% - 100% (2.6% chance to OHKO)
  • Crunch vs. max HP / Def Dusknoir: 88.4% - 100% (21% chance to OHKO)
  • Crunch vs. max HP / Def Celebi: 78.7% - 93.1%
  • Crunch vs. max HP / Def Rotom - Appliance: 100%
I don't have to deal with Rotom much because I use this team for Gamebattles.com and Rotom forms are banned on the ladder.

Thanks for reading my RMT and please give me the best rates you can. Threat list would be appreciated. Playoffs are in 3 weeks so give me rates as soon as possinle.

I have changed Gyarados to to Salamence.

I don't really see how Thunder Wave is benefiting the team as a whole. Most of the things switching into Magnezone would be somewhat uncaring of Thunder Wave such as Blissey, Flygon, Hippowdon, and Celebi once they realize you're not running Signal Beam or Hidden Power [Ice].

Also, as a note, Latias has been banned from OU Competitive Play. I don't know if this affects your League at all, but it's useful information to know. If you're playing by current OU rules, you're gonna need to change Latias to something else. May I suggest Rotom-A over Latias, with a Choice Scarf as its Held Item, running a move-set of Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Overheat/Trick? That set can work wonders, and it's somewhat replicating what Latias is currently doing, but obviously not to the same degree.

I also noticed that Choice Scarf Tyranitar is basically murder for this entire team. Swampert is your only real check to it, and with it being in the Lead position, I'm not too sure it can last long. Even worse if it's been Paralyzed, Burned, or put to Sleep.

Choice Scarf Tyranitar uses Earthquake to put down Lucario and Magnezone, Crunch for Latias (who, once again, is now banned from OU), Gyarados (and Salamence) with Stone Edge, and murders a Choice Locked Tyranitar with Earthquake. With Earthquake doing 60.2% - 71.3% on your Tyranitar, it won't be living long, if at all.

Swampert is your only real check to Choice Scarf Tyranitar, besides your own (which is killed by Choice Band Scizor, after Choice Scarf Tyranitar murders your Magnezone), and even Swampert's gonna go down eventually, with no Recovery move to call its own.

Sadly, I don't know what exactly you could replace to make this team less ScarfTar weak, so I'm no help there, but at least I can help you identify that weakness.

I wish you the best of luck with this team.

Um in the opening for Swampert vs. Azelf you state you would Ice Beam on the taunt THEN Protect to scout explosion, but if you're taunted wouldn't you be unable to use Protect?

Also since Latias is now officially Ubers why run ScarfTar as a revenge killer simply for Latias? That also means that your Latias will soon be unable to play. Might I suggest Celebi for when that happens? Celebi has resistences to Fighting, Ground. It can counter Breloom which kills TTar, Magnezone, and Lucario with Focus Punches and can take Statuses and be done with them helping out your wall overall. It also can learn T Wave which allows you to switch in on an obvious Fighting move then T Wave the pokemon/switch right back.

First, Gamebattles is a joke for Competitive Pokemon (its very easy)

Next. People expecct a Scarftar nowadays so you dont have any "surprise" with it. I recommend switching it to a Babiri Berry DD Tar to surprise people and get a free DD up.

Your going to want to lose Thunder Wave on Magnezone for Explosion since Thunder Wave doesnt help this team, especially with only one TWave user on it.

Change your Gyara set to Bulky Gyara since its Gyarados's best set, coming in on physical attacks and getting a DD up.

The only thing i can reccomend next is swap Swampert for a faster Stealth Rock lead, especially one prepared for Anti-Lead Machamp
