Hello, I'll start building my team as soon as d/p is released. For those who have already been playing the game, how competitive is the WiFi battles? Are people really hardcore enough to raise pokemon with perfect IV, EV and nature? To get the right pokemon with the right stats is extremely time consuming and I need time for other things too... like school :P . I'll probably EV train them and try hard to get an above average IVs on my pokemon. How much disadvantage will I be at if I train my pokemon normally without worrying much about their IV's? (Assuming both players have about the same skill level)

The crucial stat, imo, is Speed. You might want to invest time when you are training a poke with Spd. Of course that when you're training a Blissey, Spd is one of the less important things to care about.
Spd, and specific stats that certain pokes demand. Like High HP on Blissey, Atk on Tyranitar, etc.
Disadvantages? Not really if you had the Spd, lol.

Good breeding tricks are available, mostly in DP and Emerald. There are people who breeded some outstanding Pokemon IV- and ability-wise. It's hard and time-consuming and frustrating, but if you want an edge...
EV-training, on the other hand, is far less time-consuming, and probably not much worse in the dullness department.
If you want to get to get a good Pokemon with minimal work, breed for nature and EV train it, and ignore the IVs. You can use the Everstone trick to easily breed for nature, so that's not too hard.
