SM OU Curse Mega Scizor + Fightinium Z Tornadus (Peak 1800+)

This is an updated version of the Mega Scizor team I gave to PokeaimMD that he used in the Road to Top Ten series on his YT channel (link to the video can be found here). After watching the video and doing some more testing myself, I’ve made some minor changes to help benefit the team. The idea when making the team was to pair Scizor with five other Pokemon that can clear a path to for it to sweep.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Curse
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- U-turn

Mega Scizor is the star of the team. Curse raises Scizor’s Attack and Defense making it able to effectively check Pokemon like DD Zygarde and SD Tapu Bulu while also allowing it to apply pressure and giving it sweeping capabilities. U-turn is chosen in the last slot over something like Knock Off because it allows Scizor to keep up momentum against Pokemon that it lures in such as Toxapex, Heatran and Celesteela. Max HP and max Defense make it so Scizor efficiently take on physical attackers, most notably Kartana, as Sacred Sword will ignore the Defense raises from Curse.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 128 SpD / 128 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt

Heatran is immune to Fire-type moves, Scizor’s only weakness. On top of that, Heatran able to take on Pokemon that Scizor struggles with like Celesteela while also providing a switch in to Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Blacephalon. With Magma Storm, Heatran is able to trap Toxapex and beat it in conjunction with Earth Power and Taunt. Heatran is also the Stealth Rock user on the team. The Speed EVs allow Heatran to outpace max Speed Adamant Tyranitar and Modest Magnezone with the rest in HP and Special Defense.

Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Protect

Tapu Bulu gives the team an Ash Greninja and a Mega Alakazam switch in while also being an answer to bulky Water-types and a secondary answer to Zygarde. Tapu Bulu also sets up Grassy Terrain giving Heatran and Scizor extra recovery. Protect allows Tapu Bulu to scout the opponent’s moves and gives it extra Leftovers and Grassy Terrian recovery. The EV spread with a Careful Nature makes it so Tapu Bulu can survive hits like Heatran’s Magma Storm and Tornadus-T’s Hurricane after Stealth Rock damage.

252 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 246-290 (71.7 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, Grassy Terrain recovery, and trapping damage

252+ SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 270-318 (78.7 - 92.7%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, Grassy Terrain recovery, and trapping damage

252 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 236-282 (68.8 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and Grassy Terrain recovery

Zygarde @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Extreme Speed
- Iron Tail
- Toxic

Choice Band Zygarde is able to break through Heatran, Celesteela, Toxapex and Zapdos that lack Hidden Power Ice which are problems for Scizor. Iron Tail is used to catch Clefable and Tapu Bulu on the switch. Toxic is for Pokemon that can switch in on Zygarde and are not threatened by Iron Tail like Tangrowth, defensive Landorus-T and Slowbro. Toxic is also a more reliable option versus Tapu Bulu due to Iron Tail’s shaky 75% accuracy.

252+ Atk Choice Band Zygarde Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 262-310 (66.4 - 78.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Zygarde Iron Tail vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Tapu Bulu: 264-312 (76.9 - 90.9%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Grassy Terrain recovery

Greninja-Ash @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Spikes

Ash Greninja provides the team with a high speed tier, an answer to Psychic-types like Mega Latios and another answer to Fire-types and Ground-types. Greninja can also set up Spikes to wear down Pokemon like Toxapex, Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu making it easier for Scizor to clean.

Tornadus-Therian @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Knock Off
- Defog

Tornadus-T provides the team with hazzard removal and a secondary answer to Kartana. Z-Focus Blast allows Tornadus-T to KO offensive Heatran and severely damages bulkier variants. It also KO’s Tyranitar and Magnezone, and Scizor appreciates it if the latter is removed so it can’t get trapped. Knock Off removes the held items of Pokemon like Celesteela’s Leftovers, Toxapex’s Black Sludge or Landorus-T’s Choice Scarf making it easier to deal with them. However, U-turn over Knock Off is something I’ve been testing with to keep up momentum.

Threat List:

937683EE-8877-4DDE-8F48-9C5D447B79E7.png: DD three attacks can run through the team after it sets up a DD.

7D99C62C-5D82-4EE9-A4DB-54896EDA0B09.png: Mega Medicham can OHKO or 2HKO everyone so nothing can really switch in safely.

ED5C8D5A-1E8C-4143-8007-A885B400C905.png: QD with Hidden Power Ground can run through the team after it sets up a QD.

9DD9ED2E-A302-429D-9915-D5CE9B1C6A10.png: Hawlucha outpaces everything after the Unburden boost and can sweep after it sets up a SD.

E80C0C98-48EA-4BBE-9E40-119C2F471276.png: Protean Greninja is really hard to switch in on and with the coverage that it gets, it can potentially hit the entire team for super effective damage.

The team generally seems quite good! However, considering two (arguably three) of your main threats, I have a somewhat strange suggestion. While unorthodox, consider running a physically defensive rocky helmet Zapdos over Tornadus. Zapdos serves as an excellent counter to Hawlucha, and running static on it will also hopefully allow you to deal with ZardX better. I understand if you don't want to remove Tornadus, but it seems like in order to deal with main threats Zapdos would be a better option. I hope laddering goes well!

I’ll try out your suggestion. I’m sure that Zapdos will help a lot with the Hawlucha matchup. Thanks
