I bought my Pokémon X copy last week (after like, 10 years without buying any Pokémon game), and while I was waiting to get it, I brainstormed a team that proved to be... versatile. My idea was to build a balanced team that was able to wreak havoc on foe's team without... Losing in bulk.
Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Shadow Sneak
- Sacred Sword
- Iron Head
- King's Shield
Common Aegislash is common, this is probably one, if not the best set Aegi can run in today's meta. Since Aegislash's superb bulk let it tank a super effective hit from almost anything, a Weakness policy was a must. A brave nature and 0 Ivs in speed made me run so slow that the only thing slower than me were Slowbro/King/and common walls like Ferrothorn and Forretress. This is a great Azumarill switch-in too, but this set loses against bulky Rotom-W that carry WoW.
Rotom-Heat @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Bold Nature
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Thunder Wave
Since Platinum, Rotom became one of the most versatile Pokémon avaible... if It's in its Wash form. I thought I didn't need another water type, so I just put the Heat one. Unlike Rotom-Wash, it does check/counter different things, if not the same as Rotom-Wash: Aegislash, Talonflame, Mega Charizard X and Y (Rotom-W wouldn't dare to switch on Charizard Y's Solarbeam), Bisharp, Mega Pinsir and Mega Mawile. The movepool is pretty much the same of its Wash counterpart (except for Overheat instead of Hydro Pump), except it has two status moves. Thanks to that, Rotom-H was able to support its teamates, paralizzing faster sweepers and burning Aegislash and other physical attackers it can't handle. Its Stealth Rock weakness really hurts though.
Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
Rotom-Heat was one of the best additions to the team, but it couldn't do anything against Heatran and Stealth rocks in general, so I decided to put Starmie. Its role was unchanged between gens, and It's still the same: offensive spinner. Excadrill was better here due to its better bulk, better typing and better offenses, but Starmie has something Excadrill would kill for: Check/counter Heatran and some Infernape variants.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost
- Roar
Physically defensive Zapdos acts pretty much like a wall, unlike Rotom-Heat (which was more like a supporter instead) that checks stuff Rotom-H can't check: Azumarill. While Rotom-H was able to burn Aegislash, it was still weak to special variants because it couldn't recover the damage taken, unlike Zapdos. Zapdos' niche is to tank hits from mixed Aegislash and roost the damage, stalling out its HP thanks to Rotom's WoW.
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
Gen VI's best retyping; Azumarill is one of the best physical attackers in the tier thanks to STAB priority'n stuff. Heck, if Rotom-H paralizes things it can't check Azumarill can even come in and take them down without thinking twice. If Rotom-H doesn't do enough damage to Talonflame, It'll gladly take it down for it.
Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 248 HP / 40 Atk / 188 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
My team was too weak to Rotom-Wash and other bulky water, so I decided to put something hard to take down: MegaXard. Thanks to its typing, switching in and tanking hits isn't hard either. It's just the standard tank set, nothing else. Initally I was gonna put mixed MegaXard or Greninja, but none of those was able to check Rotom-W.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
