Damage Calculations

I'm pretty sure this kind of topic is allowed.

How exactly is damage calculated in D/P? After reading Analyses, I find the contributors saying things like "Oh this will 3HKO Gyara" or "This will only do 53% to Blissey" but how exactly do you figure this out?
 
The damage formula is in [thread=16121]the information and resource sticky[/thread], and there are two excellent damage calculators in the Contributions & Corrections forum.
 
I have a Perl one in that forum. If you don't want to use the mIRC or Perl calculator, you could use a hand calculator (the damage formula is right there) or write your own (again, the damage formula is right there).
 
Thanks, I just wrote myself a program on QBasic based on this, hope it's accurate! If anybody happens to have QBasic, ask me and I can give it to you.
 
QBasic? Get with the trends man! Use python. Damn, QBasic is old :-p (just poking fun at ya. Programming languages are tools and you use whatever you need)
