Hey, i'm juxta and i'm from over at PokeCommunity.
I have been snooping smogon for a little while and finally decided to join up.
Righto, pleasantries aside. I recently made a rain dance team around a week ago and have been fiddling with the pokemon included in this thread and have found a decent combination that could use improving.
Basically i started competitive battling around two and a half weeks ago and have been grinding team's and trying all tiers to see which i liked best. And it turns out UU and uber is my 'thang'.
Ok here it goes.
Lead.
This is Ambipom.
Jolly/technician/Damp rock
252 speed/252 attack/4def
Fake out
Rain dance
Taunt/low kick
U-turn
That there is the best lead you could pick for a UU team, it can start the game with a priority flinch and adding some damage onto they're lead, Then either taunting or using rain dance depending on the pokemon it is facing. It can then U-turn out and come back in for those revenge kills.
I chose that obvious EV spread to out speed everything that isn't scarfed. (almost everything) I don't think why i need to reiterate why it has attack EV'S. I would have silk scarf on Ambi, but i don't want to lose the 8 turn rain for the start.
Summary: I know that electrode is a viable choice for lead but using electrode in battle wasn't that great. Sure the speed helped rain dance get off and explode, but i was in need of a pokemon that could survive well into the game with not a scratch on it, and coming in and getting those revenge kills.
Attacking core:
What i've noticed is there isn't much choice when it comes to picking your attackers in UU rain dance. I believe that the pokemon i have chosen have they're work cut out for them, and do well at what i use them for.
Offensive 1:
Floatzel
Adamant/Swift swim/Life orb
252speed/252 attack/4 hp
Waterfall
Ice punch
Aqua tail
Rain dance
This here is my main physical sweep brought in on a u-turn or swap that i know will not harm it, i do not need to explain the move sets i believe.
His EV's are invested in speed and attack, this allowed Floatzel to safely put up a rain dance if needed and even without rain out speed almost everything un scarfed.
Summary: Floatzel is a great physical sweeper, with his huge attack and well matched abilities and speed he is by far one of the best. From my experience even against a defensive Slowbro he can just over half health it with an aqua tail. Another choice for Floatzel was Seaking who i originally had. I believe Seaking is a very strong physical sweeper, with the ability to use mega horn to counter grass types, but is out classed by ice attacks.
Offensive 2:
Gorebyss
Modest/Swift swim/Life orb
252 special attack/52 speed/100 defense/100 special defense
Psychic
Attract/Not sure.
Hydro pump
Ice beam
Gorebyss being my special sweeper does it's job too well, Psychic knocking out pesky fighting types and also getting rid of poison types (i'm looking at you Toxicroak) Hydro pump obliterating anything it's used on that doesn't resist. And ice beam simply for coverage of grass pokemon trying to switch in on the fun. Now i'm sure your sitting there going what the fuck is with the spread? Well simple, with it's natural bulky defense and special attack it cannot be killed by priority moves to easily, and if a priority move is used i would switch out. It's special defense is nothing to brag about but it gives me leverage to survive atleast one blow if i do not get a one hit KO. (It's speed is not anything to be proud of and it will only be used in the rain so i invested in speed the least.
Summary: All in all Gorebyss is a must have on a rain dance team and especially mine, it has saved my ass time and time again with it's ability to absorb a hit and give it right back to them.
Offensive 3
Ludicolo
Modest/Swift swim/Left overs
252 special attack/102 special defense/150 speed
Surf
Grass knot/energy ball
Ice beam
Rain dance
Alright i know ludicolo, predictable right? Aside from it being a very common pokemon among my type of teams, it is common for a reason. And from my experience i have not found that reason as of yet. Ludicolo has barely seen action on my team so far, about all he's done is die to a poison attack or missed the one hit ko. Now i don't know if it's my use of him or what..
Aside that, I have been using him with grass knot over energy ball and it seems that when i get the chance to counter a bulky water Ludicolo get's his ass stretched, God knows right? Maybe it's my EV spread, i chose to invest in special defense for that added bulkiness and doubt he'd be in without rain.
Summary: I haven't really got any thought that would be positive to the poor chap, so this summary ends short.
Supporter's and walls.
Uxie
Impish/Levitate/damp rock
252 special defense/150 defense/100 speed
Stealth rock
U-turn/thunder wave
Thunder
Rain dance
Uxie Uxie Uxie Uxie, this thing is a trooper. If i fail to get rain dance up at the start i'll u-turn out of danger to this sucker. Uxie will set up rain dance and stealth rock and thunder or u-turn depending. But mostly thunder is there for show seeing how i have no investments in special attack. Aside that it work's great as a support pokemon giving me immunity to ground and the cuteness of uxie right? shit yeah. The spread is again meant for bulk not speed, she can take the hit's and return mid-game with that rain dance.
Summary: I love uxie.
Supporters and walls 2 and or 3
Now i'm going to list two pokemon here that have been tested in battles and worked equally as well in there own league.
Altaria
Careful/Natural cure/Left overs
Aerial ace
Roost
Heal bell
Rain dance
252 sp def/100 defense/152 attack
Altaria as a whole work's well as a status healer (with the amount of people running around with impairing moves) and my RESISTANCE to GRASS and combating that with aerial ace. Also switching in on first sight of Drifblim, Venusaur and other pokemon that like to taunt you with there status moves. Thanks to natural cure, wall for statuses also. Spread is fairly simple, special def for the ice beams surprisingly good at taking ice attacks with little to moderate health left. Also used to rain dance if a threatening pokemon is on the field.
Summary: Altaria gives me two resistances with grass and ground two common types i've come across so far. But gives me weaknesses at the same time, but hey doesn't every pokemon?
Changes I'm Thinking About
Spiritomb
Careful/Pressure/Left overs/damp rock
Sucker punch
Pursuit
Pain split
Rain dance
200 defense/200 special defense/152 attack
Yeah, Spritomb need i say more? *condescending cough* no weakness.
Summary: Spiritomb does equally well at walling attacks, as well as making fighting types miss they're mark (Hitmonlee). In the end he can provide rain dance, pursuit retreating victims and pain split them, i like that in a spiritomb.
Conclusion
All in all, if you survived through this whole thing you truly are a better man than i. Plenty of suggestions and thoughts appreciated i haven't quite looked at my team for weaknesses or holes yet so thought on this is also clap worthy.
Cheers!
