[SET]
Emboar @ Assault Vest
Name: Dap up Champ (Fighting)
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 248 HP / 220 SpD / 40 Spe or 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Sassy / Careful Nature
- Fire Blast / Flare Blitz
- Sucker Punch
- Heavy Slam
- Head Smash / Wild Charge / Close Combat
[Overview]
Fighting
========
Emboar is unique on Fighting teams in its ability to be a good Fairy-neutral special attack sponge that is immune to getting burned. Compared to fellow Assault Vest users like Iron Hands and Gallade, however, it lacks a useful secondary offensive typing that allows it to break through common Fighting-resistant Pokemon. Due to this, it is usually better to use the aforementioned Pokemon over Emboar to prevent one's Fighting team from struggling against common threats like Primarina, Azumarill, and Toxapex.
[SET COMMENTS]
With its part-Fire typing, good defensive stats, and Reckless-boosted moves, Assault Vest Emboar is able to check a multitude of threats to Fighting teams from Bug, Ghost, and Fairy. Fire Blast lets Emboar power through a would-be check in Skarmory and also hits Forretress without suffering from recoil damage or Rocky Helmet chip damage. Flare Blitz can be run instead for its perfect accuracy, higher PP, and Reckless boost, which can be useful for dealing with Corviknight and Gholdengo. Sucker Punch allows Emboar to pick off weakened Ghost- and Psychic-types that are faster than it, like Choice-locked Spectrier and Latios. Fairy-types like Hatterene, Flutter Mane, and Alolan Ninetales are threatened by Emboar's Heavy Slam and ability to take their attacks easily. Emboar's final moveslot is very customizable due to the important threats each option covers, such as Head Smash easily eliminating Volcarona, Wild Charge threatening most of Flying teams' threats and being especially threatening to defensive Gyarados, and Close Combat threatening Darkrai and Hydreigon and preventing Heatran and Hisuian Goodra from being checks. 40 Speed EVs with a Sassy nature allow Emboar to outspeed Pokemon like Blissey without sacrificing any bulk or power. Alternatively, a Careful nature with 44 Speed EVs can be used instead when using Flare Blitz over Fire Blast, enabling Emboar to outspeed Skarmory.
Emboar benefits from Great Tusk's entry hazard management and ability to switch into physical attackers like Excadrill and Landorus-T. In return, Emboar switches into powerful Fairy-type moves that threaten Great Tusk. Scrafty and Emboar form a decent bulky core that makes it easy to maneuver around powerful Fairy- and Psychic-type attacks. Gallade also forms a great Assault Vest core with Emboar, as it can take Psychic-type attacks as well as other strong special hits from Water-types like Greninja and Walking Wake. Iron Valiant greatly benefits from Emboar consistently handling checks to it like Galarian Weezing and Corviknight, allowing it to create holes in teams with its various coverage moves and powerful STAB moves. Setup sweepers like Hisuian Lilligant and Urshifu-R also appreciate the weakening of Pokemon like Gholdengo and Amoonguss, which otherwise prevent them from sweeping. In return, Emboar enjoys the removal of Ground-types like Gliscor and Hippowdon from Urshifu-R and Water-types like Alomomola and Swampert from Hisuian Lilligant. Sneasler also benefits from the elimination of bulky Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Zapdos, which otherwise make it difficult for it to sweep teams. Emboar, in turn, greatly appreciates Sneasler's ability to KO Pokemon like Indeedee and Roaring Moon that otherwise threaten it. Iron Hands also helps Emboar maneuver around Flying and Water teams with its powerful Electric-type STAB moves and incredible bulk, while Emboar absorbs any potential burns headed Iron Hands's way.
