Darkness and Flames | Angelus Delapsus
Preface | A New Story Unfolds
There was a time, not too long ago, when I used to play Pokemon on a regular basis. I would breed, reset, train, raise and battle with these companions. It was a fun experience, and the ability to play with different people through the use of WiFi made it even better... However, my interest in the game dropped not long after HG/SS's Japanese release.

Preface | A New Story Unfolds
It wasn't until a few weeks ago while I was clearing space in my card when, struck by nostalgia, I decided to try to get back into the game... Sadly, fate had other plans, as I found out that my saved files were lost... All I had left was my Diamond game file, which I had only used for a couple of battles and contained only a handful of Pokemon. Even so, I decided to give it another chance and try to work from there.
Introduction | No Future Without A Past
Some of our veteran Smogonites might remember most of this team, presented under the name "Hsi Yu Chi" and also featured as September 2008's RMT in our archives.. My main idea behind its creation was to pay homage to one of my favorite books (Journey to the West). I have taken most of the ideas behind it and created a team that works with a similar concept as its original.
Due to my time off the game, I am unsure as to what to really expect from the current metagame. I have been reading some articles, as well as some RMT's, but have yet to really experience the new metagame first-hand; I believe this to be my greatest weakness, as well as the main reason I decided to post the team in our forums.
Finally, I know this format may seem a bit long or tedious to read for some of you. I apologize if that is the case, but I rather enjoy making my RMT threads differ a bit from the rest.

With wings of Darkness / And crown of flames,
Will the god of Hell / Rule the three planes."

The Story Begins | The Team

- Flames and Destruction :: Infernape :: Chapter One
- "How can we define what is Good and what is Evil?"
- Item: Life Orb
- Nature: Naive
- EVs: 64 Atk | 252 SpAtk | 192 Speed
- Move Set:
- Fake Out: Fake Out is a great move for opening a match. It allows you to break Sashes, damage Pokemon just enough to get them into KO range, and scout for leftovers. It adds a nice "free" priority move.
- Stealth Rock: Stealth Rock is practically guaranteed due to Focus Sash. This, coupled with the fact that Infernape can cause early switches, pretty much means I will have an entry hazard most of the time during every match.
- Fire Blast: Fire Blast is simply devastating coming from Infernape after taking into account STAB. If the opponent was able to activate Focus Sash, then Fire Blast's power increases even higher.
- Close Combat: Even though not trained specifically for physical attacks, Close Combat is still a very powerful attack that, along with Fire Blast, increases Infernape's type coverage.
- Description: Infernape is one of my favorite Pokemon in the entire game. This set gives him team utility while keeping him a very effective threat.
- Lore: The beginning of his journey was just ahead. All those battles had taken their toll on his mind... How can you say you serve the greater good if you are required to end the lives of others? The gate is near... If you fail, his mind says, your soul will be devoured by darkness... There is no turning back now... To understand Chaos, one must experience it firsthand...

- Gate of the Abyss :: Gyarados :: Chapter Two
- "Thark'tun Shriv-al C'ael" - Meddling guest, turn back.
- Item: Leftovers
- Nature: Adamant
- EVs: 156 HP | 72 Atk | 96 Def | 184 Spe
- Move Set:
- Dragon Dance: With the given EVs, Dragon Dance allows Gyarados to outspeed ScarfTar, as well as +115s.
- Waterfall: Waterfall has STAB, as well as a chance to flinch the opposing Pokemon.
- Bounce: I have been considering Stone Edge instead. Bounce has the chance of inflicting paralysis on their targets. As previously mentioned, I am still considering replacing this with Stone Edge.
- Roar: I felt I needed a pHazer in the group. With the added ability of weakening my opponent's Pokemon through Stealth Rock, as well as getting rid of any stat boosts they may have, I feel Roar is a nice addition to his moveset.
- Description: Gyarados covers some of my other Pokemon's weakness, as well as works as a very effective wall, with moves that are an immediate threat to certain OU Pokemon. Its ability to shuffle through my opponent's team is quite welcomed, as it gives me an idea on what to expect, easing the guess work when it comes to certain switches and moves.
- Lore: "Only the dead shall pass..." The guardian lets out a deafening roar as it glides through the air at its target. "Only the dead shall pass!"

- Guiding Light :: Celebi :: Chapter Three
- "Even in darkness my light will shine."
- Item: Leftovers
- Nature: Bold
- EVs: 252 HP | 220 Def | 36 Spe
- Move Set:
- Leech Seed: Leech Seed allows me to recover HP by draining the opponent's. It can force switches, as well as heal any Pokemon I switch to, in case I need to.
- Protect: Protect allows me to stall for both leftovers and Leech Seed, as well as scout my enemy's moves and PP stall.
- Recover: Recover is Celebi's recovery move. It increases its survivability, as well as serves as a way to PP Stall my opponent.
- Grass Knot: Grass Knot serves as Celebi's attack move, having a very decent Base Power against Pokemon such as Gyarados, Swampert, Tyranitar and others.
- Description: Celebi is my main Physical wall, as well as one of my status absorbers (due to Natural Cure and Recover). I rather like the utility Celebi brings into the group. It can off-heal other members through Leech Seed, as well as scout and make switches easier thanks to Protect.
- Lore: "Why am I doing this?" She repeats as she places her hand on his wound. "You don't need a reason to save someone... do you?"

- Fire and Brimstone :: Heatran :: Chapter Four
- "Zak'ra sher Nahiel" - I shall feast on your soul
- Item: Leftovers
- Nature: Modest
- EVs: 88 HP | 252 Sp Atk | 168 Speed
- Move Set:
- Magma Storm: Magma Storm is an incredibly powerful move that will greatly damage any Pokemon that dare switch/stay in. Combined with the ability to trap Pokemon, and my access to Scizor's Pursuit, I am able to take care of opposing threats much easier.
- Hidden Power Grass: HP Grass helps dealing with Bulky waters (which usually are Heatran's counters) more easily.
- Substitute: If there is something Heatran is good at, it is causing switches. Substitute allows me to use those switches, while at the same time scouting my opponent's moves and intentions. Additionally, it protects Heatran from some status, as well as giving him a chance of attacking Pokemon that would otherwise pose a huge threat.
- Taunt: Taunt helps by disabling Pokemon while they are trapped.
- Description: Heatran is able to cause switches quite easily, which not only weakens the opposing team due to Stealth Rock, but also gives me time to setup and use those precious free turns to attack back. Its stats and typing gives it some easy switches, and coupled with its high Special Attack and damaging moves, it is able to return a OHKO, as well as severely damage even Pokemon that resist its moves. I have been thinking about replacing either Substitute or Taunt for Explosion, but they have both proved to be quite useful in the past.
- Lore: "Good? Evil? Hah! Nothing more than mere words... Excuses created by weak beings too afraid of standing up to the consequences of their own decisions."

- Avenger :: Scizor :: Chapter Five
- "Vengeance and Forgiveness... Nothing more than two sides of the same coin."
- Item: Choice Band
- Nature: Adamant
- EVs: 248 HP | 252 Atk | 8 Speed
- Move Set:
- U-Turn: U-Turn allows Scizor to scout enemy plans and KO some Pokemon without wasting a turn to switch to a different Pokemon.
- Bullet Punch: A simply devastating move on a very powerful Pokemon. It can pick off weakened enemies, as well as OHKO others.
- Superpower: Great power comes with great responsibility... Or so they say. Superpower gives Scizor a way to deal with some of its so called counters, as well as give even more type coverage.
- Pursuit: Adding to the revenge-kill capabilities that Scizor brings to the table, this move makes sure that an enemy Pokemon will die, even if they switch out.
- Description: Scizor is one of the most powerful revenge killers in the game. Combined with its typing and stats, Scizor is a very powerful threat to the unprepared team.
- Lore: "Some will say my actions are just... Others that they are evil... The truth? I do what I feel is right."

- Death and Despair :: Gengar :: Chapter Six
- "Suffering... Despair... Much deeper... Than flesh... And bone..."
- Item: Life Orb
- Nature: Timid
- EVs: 4 HP | 252 Sp Atk | 252 Speed
- Move Set:
- Substitute: Substitute allows Gengar to block out any negative status, as well as protect him while scouting what the enemy Pokemon will do. As a secondary effect, it also decreases its HP further, thus increasing the amount of HP stolen from the enemy through the use of Pain Split.
- Shadow Ball: Shadow Ball is Gengar's STAB move of choice. The chance of lowering the opponent's Special Defense is a very nice bonus.
- Focus Blast: While giving Gengar perfect coverage, it also gives him a move that threatens the likes of Tyranitar and Heatran.
- Pain Split: Finally, Pain Split gives Gengar a move that can cripple most walls if played correctly. Coupled with Substitute and Life Orb damage (as well as any other field hazard), Pain Split will almost always allow Gengar to "feed off" his opponents.
- Description: Pain Split Gengar is simply devastating. It is able to take out Pokemon with ease while keeping a neutral type coverage due to its Ghost/Fighting moves. This, combined with its high Special Attack and high-damaging attacks can pressure opponents into a corner.
- Lore: "So you wish... To know... The true meaning... of Chaos..." The darkness around them spoke. "I am... Chaos... and Death..."
Conclusion | Final Word
I believe this team has a future, but as I have mentioned before, I haven't been able to test it out yet. I would really like to add a Rapid Spinner to the team, which has made me consider replacing Celebi for someone else, but I've yet to find the perfect Pokemon, I guess.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Positive and even negative constructive criticism is welcomed. I thank you for taking time to read this and I hope you enjoyed reading the small story as much as I did writing it... The ending? Well, that is up to you.
Finally, while I am able to breed most Pokemon, legendaries will be somewhat more difficult to come across, so I would rather stay away from them as much as possible. I also don't expect to encounter any Rotom Forms over WiFi... unless they finally added them to the system, which I highly doubt.
