I should preface this by saying this is basically my first-ever attempt at making an OU team (not really going to count M-Swampert Rain, that team makes itself), so a lot of these decisions may be sub-optimal or simply based on my personal enjoyment of the Pokemon. Suggestions are invited. With that out of the way, here are the sets.
Darmanitan-Galar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Gorilla Tactics
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Superpower
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
One of my two offense cores, I'm using Darmanitan because of the insane combo that is essentially a Choice Band AND a Choice Scarf. This Pokemon hits hard and its powerful selection of coverage moves coupled with my own love for the Pokemon made it a no-brainer for the backbone of my team. This moveset also allows me to check Dark and Dragon types that, Dragapult, the other member of my core, is susceptible to.
Dragapult (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Shadow Ball
- Flamethrower
- U-turn
Speaking of Dragapult, this Pokemon is the special attacker of my offense core, and the Choice Specs + Timid nature allow it to not only hit like a truck, but outspeed Adamant and Modest nature Dragapults. I've also been considering running a Jolly Dragon Dance set with Life Orb or a Mixed set of some sort. Honestly, I think I would prefer a physical Life Orb set due to the currently two Choice items on my team and my hesitance towards Draco Meteor (since I can't really stay in after using it).
Grimmsnarl @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Darkest Lariat
- Taunt
- Spirit Break
- Thunder Wave
I don't have much to say here other than Grimmsnarl is a Pokemon that I like and offers some utility with Taunt and Thunder Wave, opening up my team a bit against other offense teams that want to sweep. I'm still not really sure about this set, but I do like the Prankster utility that Grimmsnarl provides and the Pokemon itself. If it's worth mentioning I'm also considering using some kind of Screen Pokemon in this slot.
Corviknight (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Bulk Up
- Roost
- Defog
Standard Hazard Removal with Bulk Up/Roost just in case. For this Pokemon, I'm mostly thinking about removing Bulk Up entirely for a coverage move like Iron Head or Body Press, but I'm not sure. I'm also not fully certain of what set I should go for here (I probably need a special tank), but that's not really the biggest issue. Most of the uncertainty in this slot comes in the form of not knowing whether to use it at all, as I'm considering using Copperajah or some other Hazard Pokemon in this slot and replacing my current Hazard Setter, which is...
Runerigus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Wandering Spirit
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic Spikes
- Earthquake
- Body Press
Not really sure why this Pokemon is here; I like it and it has Rocks and T-Spikes, in addition to some nice coverage moves in EQ and Body Press, so I'm using it. This is probably the most uncertain slot on my team right now, as I feel as though there might be better options for Hazard Setters, so again, I'm considering overhauling my Hazard/Hazard Removal. Not much else to say about it.
Toxtricity (M) @ Throat Spray
Ability: Punk Rock
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shift Gear
- Overdrive
- Boomburst
- Sludge Bomb
Honestly, Toxtricity is just here because it's a cool Pokemon and it serves as a pretty good special attacker with set-up potential in Shift Gear. It also serves as a strong counter to Fairy-types that threaten Dragapult. Also, I should reiterate that I am strongly considering the use of a Jolly Dragon Dance Dragapult instead of my current Choice Specs set, so in the even that I do actually switch my set, Toxtricity would have a vital role as my primary special offense.
So, that's the current team that I've drafted up. I'd greatly appreciate insight on team and moveset options, so suggest literally anything, I just don't want to use Cinderace and I want to keep my Darmanitan+Dragapult core, but anything else is basically fair game. On the topic of Dynamax, you can call me Piers, since I would just prefer not to use it, but if I must, I'm planning on just Dynamaxing whatever seems to be the best option, or one of my Choice Pokemon (there might be an overlap there, I'm not sure). Again, this is basically my first attempt at building a team, so keep that in mind and let me know what you guys think.
