Hi guys and welcome to my first post ever! Yay! My name is Yellowme I've been on and off Pokemon OU since 4th gen. Today I'm going to be talking my latest team which I think is pretty solid. However, some criticism would be nice.
So, the team's name is DEAD VG, which some should interpret as DEAD Video Game with each letter standing for a pokemon. That doesn't necessarily mean that I think this game is dead, I just thought it had a nice ring to it. My original idea for this team was to run a solid special core with some hazard damage as well as some bulk as to try to delay the deaths of the chunkers (?). Eventually, though, it ended up having severe amounts of physical attack crippling with a habit of forcing switches due to the speed of Manectric and Excadrill and Gyarados Dragon Tail. Without further ado, I will list out my pokemon in order according to the acronym, explaining why I picked these pokemans.
D: DINOSAUR
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
D FOR DINOSAUR. Tyranitar is used because it's stupidly tanky due to the fact that it's one of the psuedo legendaries. Defensive stats of 248/252/8 gives it plenty of bulk both physically and specially due to sandstorm. It's also the stealth rocks user of this team, although it's not always guaranteed to set up the stealth rocks. The stealth rocks are used to just make the opponents waste a turn or two trying to get it off the field. The main reason for Ttar is for the good all around stats and sandstorm which leads to......
E: EXCADRILL
Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
Oh my lord this thing hits hard. There's a reason why this thing got bumped to Ubers. Originally this was actually going to be a choice scarf Excadrill because revenge killing is so easy with this thing. However, sand rush gave this mole the speed to run over everything it needs to take out. Of course, lack of sandstorm makes it slower. Not slow. It still has the speed to run faster than almost all walls. Of course, aqua jet and fast fire types make this thing near useless which leads to.......
A: Atrocious
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic
LITERALLY CALLED ATROCIOUS. Gyarados has an extremely strong typing, water/flying. With EVs invested in defense and hp, combined with typing and intimidate, he becomes quite a wall. People often expect a bulky dragon dance and thus end up just returning to boosting their stats after two intimidate drops. That's when a dragon tail ends up leaving their boostings to naught. Taunt is nice in case walls such as Skarm or Ferrothorn want to capitalize the lack of offensive prowess this guy has. Toxic is there in case some want to stay in.
D: DOG
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Static
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
This was the thing that I originally wanted to incorporate on my team. Manectric has always been one of my favorite pokemons since 3rd gen. Offensively and strategically speaking, it's not too bad. 152 EV in speed means that it outspeeds Timid Greninja after it Mega evolves. Max EVs in SpA means this hound hits hard, and the rest of the evs are put into hp for some bulk. 135 spA and 135 speed are nothing to scoff at. That combined with a very effective moveset make this a strong attacker.
V:Victory Vendetta
Victini @ Leftovers
Ability: Victory Star
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blue Flare
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
.....I guess I have to provide some justifications as to why I'm using this. I know I was looking for a fire type, and eventually I resorted to this. I didn't really like the movepool of the physical set as it covered much of what Manectric could cover, just physically. Which might not be bad, but it forces me in an awkward position to run a choice set to capitalize on the element of surprise that would be known as 180 bp V-Create. As strong as that may seem on paper, using it means a loss of momentum or a guaranteed death. People seem to overlook that Blue Flare is a very strong move with a high chance to burn for added salt. Shadow ball and energy ball for extra coverage.
G: GENIE
Landorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- U-turn
- Psychic
Sheer force is a great ability. What else is there to say? Special Attacker Landorus just seems to attract me more than physical Landorus, even though the physical attack stat is stronger. THAT DOESN'T MEAN LANDORUS HAS BAD SPECIAL ATTACK. The genie technically has two life orbs stacked together without any drawbacks, so therefore 115 spA becomes 150 before another life orb boost! Hitting harder than almost everything.
Thanks for looking at my first RMT. Feedback would be nice.
