Death In The Desert (OU~RMT)

Introduction

Hey all, this is Blaze of PWBT for my first RMT on this site, and I hope it will get some views :P. Firstly lol, I'd like to thank you for visiting my RMT and hope that you will have some criticism, or rather none, but post a view no matter what the view is.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert battler like many people on this site, however, i have, let's say 'trawled' over many sites in my career in pokemon and after playing competitvely for some time, over a year, I'm experienced and open to any comments.

Now, onto this team. This was initally an old Sandstorm Team I had made with some new modifications onto it. There are some pokemon in this team, I do not want to change at all - (that being Shuckle, Tyranitar and kinda Lucario). Anywayz, onto the team. I have used this a lot recently and previously and it's overall success rate is around 70-20 so it has a foundation to be improved upon.

(Changes will be made in Italic/Bold)

The Team

tyranitar.png

Tyranitar @
Leftovers
SandStream
Quiet Nature

252HP/44Att/176SpAtt/36Speed
· Substitute
· Dark Pulse
· Focus Punch
· Thunderbolt

TyraniBoah has always been a threat to stall teams as it can attack from both sides of the spectrum. It can force switches and always lets me get a substitute up. Here I use it as a lead, its main priority is to get the Sandstorm running and combats against most leads. For example, against Aerodactyl/Azelf, generally leads carry stealth rock (although if Azelf does feel like tricking, i wouldn’t mind either) and I can either T-Bolt/Dark Pulse respectively. It also outspeeds Bliss and can always sub up before it t-waves and I can focus punch it to oblivion. This pokemon works great on this team and is also a threat in the late game should I want to withdraw it and once steels are out of the way.

-----------------------------------

shuckle.png

Shuckle @Leftovers
Gluttony
Impish Nature
252HP/208Def/48SpDef
· Toxic
· Encore
· Rest
· Knock Off

This, with the given EV’s has 602 Def and 752 Sp.Def – It’s a beast and stalls all day long. It loves to come in on choiced pokemon or anything that can’t do much - eg: Infernape, Azelf, Mence, Heatran, the like. Shuckle is used here as a supporting wall and usually on average knocks off an enemy’s item of 2 out of 6 pokemon. Encore helps to force switches, racking up toxic damage (see Forretress) and annoys the opponent like hell. Rest and toxic are standard on shuckles and increases longetivity. With more damage from Spikes, Sandstorm and possible life orb, it doesn’t take long to weaken an enemy.

------------------------------------

Forretress.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers

Sturdy
Relaxed Nature
252HP/58Att/198Def
· Toxic Spikes
· Gyro Ball
· Explosion
· Rapid Spin

It’s pretty obvious what Forretress’ role is here. Get some spikes up and spin away any hazards that lie in my way. Also gyro ball is used for fast enemies, although in my experience, I have barely used it at all, so i am wondering what to replace it with. Explosion is there for obvious reasons once all Forrey can do is done. Being only weak to fire, like Scizor, it works well with Heatran. If there’s any poke that might need some altering, i think its this one.

-----------------------------------

heatran.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Flash Fire
Calm Nature
244HP/32Sp.Att/12Sp.Def/220Speed
· Torment
· Substitute
· Protect
· Lava Plume

With its decent typing, good bulk and fairly high HP, Heatran makes a decent tank. What’s more, with torment, it works even better. From what I’ve seen, most pokemon only carry one attack that is Super Effective on Tran and using torment aids it a lot, rendering them almost useless on one turn. Protect is there to scout out and stall more making them take even more residual damage and substitute for that gainly shield. Works well with Forretress, sending this in on the anticipated fire move and netting that flash fire boost. In the last slot I chose Lava Plume as the burn rate is very helpful and frankly, there isn’t much else to put except Explosion.

------------------------------------

art-lucario.jpg

Lucario@ Life Orb
Inner Focus
Adamant Nature
6HP/252Att/252Speed
· Swords Dance
· Extremespeed
· Crunch
· Close Combat

You’ve all seen it. You know how it works. Great for revenge killing with extremespeed and packs a punch even without a SD. I’ve been thinking that I might want to put Ice Punch on here somewhere, but not sure, i’ll let you decide that. Close Combat is the obvious stab and Crunch is for all ghost that are immune to the other moves. Works really well end game when all it’s resistances, mainly ghosts and flyers are down. When the chips are down, this has saved me on occasions.

----------------------------------

51.png

Dugtrio@ Choice Band
Arena Trap
Jolly Nature
36HP/252Att/220Speed
· Earthquake
· Stone Edge
· Pursuit
· Sucker Punch

The final revenge killer. It’s fast and packs a damn hard punch with its Choice Band. Earthquake can even OHKO almost all Tyranitars and Stone Edge helps with Lucario’s problem of Flying types. Generally when something is fairly low on HP, I bring this out and preventing escape, finish them off. It needs some good prediction to use this and mostly I am able to pull it off, but that generally means having to sacrifice something. With these Ev’s, I’m left at 362 speed, faster than Gengar, Ambipom and Azelf. Against anything faster, eg: Scarfed of the previous or Ninjask/Alakazam, Sucker Punch gives me an easy OHKO 99% of the time.

-----------------------

Conclusion and Suggestions

So there's the team and I'd like to thank all that have read up till now xD. Overall it has served me well and 70-20 and counting. If there will be anything I need to edit, I will do so. Now the things I'm thinking that needs changing are:

  • Tyranitar - T-Bolt or Ice Beam in last slot
  • Forretress - Moveset? Stealth Rock? Gyro or No Gyro?
  • Lucario - Ice Punch for dragons?
  • Heatran - Last Move?

  • Is the synergy good enough. Can it be improved?

Feel free to suggest anything that you want although I would like to keep the base of this team as similar as it is. Thanks for all the rates and a threat list will follow shortly. :)

Death In The Desert ~ Threat List

Threat List: (Taken from Maci12's thread which had been stolen from Jabba’s thread which was stolen from KG's thread)

Defensive Threats:

Ani242MS.png
Blissey – TyraniBoah's 101HP Subs protect from S-Tosses and status and can Focus Punch Bliss to Oblivion. Also Duggy's CB EQ's do around 65% do bliss. Shuckle can stall it out and it can be workn down by toxic spikes/toxic/torment.

Ani437MS.png
Bronzong – Generally I dont see much of this. Heatran can do the job to levitating ones and Dugtrio can take Heatproof ones. Also, Lucario can 2HKO with Close Combat or OHKO with a SD.
Ani251MS.png
Celebi – Heatran doesn't see much problem with this with Lava Plume, Torment and Sub's. Dugtrio can scare it away making it Pursuit-fodder and can sucker punch one which is low on health. Lucario's Crunch can also do the job as can T-tar's Dark Pulse.

Ani488MS.png
Cresselia – Tyranitar can damage it a bit with Dark Pulse as can Dugtrio with Pursuit. Shuckle can stall it out with Toxic + Rest + Knock Off adding up residual damage. Only Rest works on it as moonlight will only restore 25% of health.
Ani477MS.png
Dusknoir - Tyranitar can take this on blocking WoW and Dark Pulsing. Dugtrio can Pursuit it or Sucker Punch it too. Shuckle can stall it out with Toxic + Rest etc. and isn't bothered about the elemental punches.

Ani205MS.png
Forretress –Heatran takes this down with no problems and itself and shuckle can take the explosions.

Ani472MS.png
Gliscor – This can potentially be a problem with it firing off EQ's. However, if either Forretress or Shuckle is present, the battle is won either by exploding or stallling it out somewhat. I do it quite frequently, and haven't faced much of a problem.

Ani130MS.png
Gyarados - Tyranitar's unexpected T-Bolt OHKO's if memory serves. Shuckle encoring Dragon Dance is common and Forrey can explode at will.
Ani450MS.png
Hippowdon – This isn't much of a threat. Shuckle and Forrey can take it on and Lucario can come in on a weakened one and pose a threat. Being faster than Hippo, T-tar can fire off special attacks doing around 40%-50% each time (Dark Pulse)
Ani385MS.png
Jirachi – Jirachi is an annoyance to every team of mine. I couldn't care less about the CM Variants, its the Choice Scarf Haxrachis that really annoy me. Dugtrio can revenge kill easily and heatran doesnt mind Rachi either - so this time - i'm good.
Ani479OMS.png
Rotom-A – Defensive Rotom Appliances are not that hard to deal with. if the correct measures are done.Shuckle can take it on and so can Luke and Duggy to some extent.
Ani227MS.png
Skarmory – Tyranitar laughs at this as does Heatran. No Problem whatsoever.

Ani143MS.png
Snorlax – Focus Punch does heaps of damage to it and if it doesn't pack EQ - it's problemicity is very low indeed. Only Rest/Immunity is annoying although most use thick fat.

Ani245MS.png
Suicune – Toxic Spikes destroy opposing offensive Suicune, the defensive Suicune get maimed by a combo of Torment + and then Lucario.

Ani260MS.png
Swampert – "Swampert was badly poisoned by the Toxic Spikes" Get the picture? Here is where spikes helps a great deal. Also, Lucario's Close Combat does a fair chunk of damage to weak it down and T-tar's Dark Pulse on the most common variants do around 50%.

Ani248MS.png
Tyranitar – T-tar OHKO's with Focus Punch. Duggy OHKO's with EQ.
Ani134MS.png
Vaporeon – Toxic Spikes makes this guy a lot easier to deal with, despite her bulkiness. Duggy's CB EQ does around 50% upwards to common Vappy's and T-tar can do around 40%-50% with Thunderbolt and around the same or higher with a Sub + Focus Punch. If Heatran is already in, Torment + Protect annoys it too.

Ani145MS.png
Zapdos – They generally can't handle Tyranitar, because they focus to one side of the spectrum when he hits on both. Shuckle laughs at everything Zapdos does and sets up on it. It can Toxic and Knock off with Dugtrio left scavanging the scraps with a Stone Edge so to speak.

Offensive Threats:

Ani482MS.png
Azelf – As a lead, it is rather annoying, as explained in the Tyranitar analysis, but it can be overcome with good prediction. As a sweeper, it is stopped cold by Shuckle, and is revenge killed by Dugtrio.

Ani286MS.png
Breloom – Breloom isn't as much of a threat to this team as to others. Shuckle always is the sleep fodder and it can't really take on Heatran unless it has Focus Punch wiht Sub, even then, it can be predicted easily. If it has somehow wreaked havoc, duggy can revenge kill it unless it has mach punch in which case Lucario can do the job.
Ani395MS.png
Empoleon- Lucario OHKO's and Tyranitar's Punch or Bolt can damage this thing too. Duggy can Revenge kill and OHKO unless it packs Aqua Jet. Lucario can Close Combat as Aqua Jet ( without SD) doesn't pack much of a punch.

Ani094MS.png
Gengar – Shuckle walls this to complete hell - As does Heatran to some extent ( without Focus blast or with Focus Blast missing). It can torment the scarved varients and Duggy can kill the ones without scarves.

Ani130MS.png
Gyarados – Attacking Gyarados' can be a problem. But T-tar's unexpected T-Bolt hammers it and Forretress can wall it and Shuckle can Encore on a move to make it set up fodder.

Ani485MS.png
Heatran – Shuckle loves this. It walls it to oblivion too. Tyranitar has its fair share of kills on this with the SS boost aiding it.
Ani392MS.png
Infernape – Again, shuckle walls this to hell. Dugtrio is faster and revenge kills and i'm yet to see a Scarfed 'Nape so im good so far.

Ani135MS.png
Jolteon – Shuckle walls this yet again and so does Heatran and T-tar. duggy can come in on a Electric move and Finish it if it is choiced or has been tormented previously.
Ani380MS.png
Latias – I haven't faced many of these and these can be a problem for sure. Dugtrio can do it as can tormenting Heatran. Shuckle however does wall it and can encore a calm mind or recover and making it somewhat a set-up fodder.s
Ani230MS.png
Kingdra –Rain can hurt this team. Not much can be done, but without rain, duggy can do around 75% + to this and Lucario can do heaps with a Close Combat too.

Ani448MS.png
Lucario – Shuckle walls this and since most have life orb, they are worn down eventually. Forretress can also take this down (if i do have EQ - not sure yet). Heatran can torment if encored previously and cause it to struggle or Duggy can revenge kill but must watch out for Extremespeed.

Ani068MS.png
Machamp – Shuckle and Forretress walls this and heatran can to since it will be faster. Haven't faced many of these and not sure how to deal with it.

Ani462MS.png
Magnezone – Very annoying if it traps Forretress but I might give Forrey Shed Shell. Lucario is faster i think and OHKO's with CC and Duggy revenge kills this for breakfast. :)

Ani473MS.png
Mamoswine – Tyranitar's Focus Punch OHKO's with SR damage I believe. Dugtrio does around 70% with Earthquake. Shuckle walls this as does forretress.
Ani376MS.png
Metagross – As a lead, this is definitly the most annoying. T-tar's Dark Pulse does 40-50% while they Stealth Rock. Duggy can Revenge kill but must watch out for Bullet Punch. Heatran is faster and does OHKO with Lava Plume too.

Ani243MS.png
Raikou - See Jolteon's counters please.

Ani373MS.png
Salamence - If T-tar has Ice beam its not much of a problem.Encoring anything helps and Forrey can explode or Gyro Ball. Dugrtio can revenge kill on a encored on or one without DD up. But it can switch and therefore might need some nice prediction there :)

Ani212MS.png
Scizor – Forrey laughs at bullet punch as does Heatran and Lucario. Heatran can OHKO and can torment CB's or just Lava Plume them.

Ani461MS.png
Weavile – It is fast and sometimes annoying. T-tar can focus punch and kill unless the Vile has Brick Break. Shuckle walls as does Forrey.
Ani145MS.png
Zapdos – Similar to Defensive Zapdos counters. Shuckle walls. Heatran nets a nice Flash Fire with Forrey as the bait. T-tar's SS boost laughs at it, and can Dark Pulse away or Focus Punch on a Predicted Roost.

Thanks.

Tyranitar - T-Bolt or Ice Beam in last slot-I'd use Flamethrower for the omnipresent steels that run rampant throughout the metagame.
Forretress - Moveset? Stealth Rock? Gyro or No Gyro? Stealth Rock is a must. Gyro Ball can also be a check to dragon types like Salamence stuck in Outrage.
Lucario - Ice Punch for dragons? Generally, Salamence run + natures and anything else does too. Flygon is always scarfed so it doesn't matter. Just stick with the set you're using.
Heatran - Last Move?

Changes

Yeah ok I see where ur going with this. That all seems fine.I'm just wondering about what to replace for sttealth rock on Forretress.
Btw guys, suggest other stuff as well as the stuff I was desperate for pls

Ice beam over t bolt for t tar. Gives it better coverage, still hurts aero, and puts a nice dent in roserade.

Heatran looks fine.

I suggest stealth rocks over gyro ball on forry.

Oh and possibly ice punch over crunch?

Im pretty sure you get unresisted coverage with that.

Ttar can help with dragons if it stays alive.

Anyways, looks great ; )

Oh and spikes over toxic spikes is dumb. This is a sanstorm STALL team.
Toxic is a great asset for torment trant. He doesnt have a whirlwind/roarer so spikes seem kind of pointless.

your team is really weak to nasty plot infernape with vacuum wave/fire blast/focus blast/nasty plot. it easily ohkos your entire team bar shuckle which is 2hko, so no switching in to it...i would recommend replacing heatran with a defensive latias to also give you one ground resist/immunity that your team really needs.

Response to Comments

Towelie:

Yes thanks. I like the idea of Ice Beam. It either OHKO's Aero or takes it to its sash so that's good. And can also hurt that rater annoying Roserade. However, I would generally switch to shuckle first turn unless i predict Toxic Spikes to take the sleep. Also, Stealth Rocks > Gyro Ball ~Yh Fine with that. Yes I believe that Fighting + Normal + Ice = Unresisted but so is my set at the moment. I'll test it out on Lucario. Thanks for the rate Towelie.

SquirtleSquad:

Yes thanks for bringing that up. I have faced 3 Nasty Plot Infernapes recently and fortunately I played my cards right and got a bit of luck too. The first two times were about a week ago in battles right after each other. I had laid some toxic spikes out and then infernape came in about 2 turns later. (2 layers). I then sent shuckle out while it used Fire Blast on Forrey. Then I predicted Encore on the Plot and knocked off its Orb and then went to Duggy and finished it.
The 3rd time however, I expected a plot and encored, only to encore a Close Combat. This was late in the game and I only had Shuckle, Heatran and Dugtrio. Shuckle died to the 2nd Close Combat (it had been on 50% health and CC did 25% approx both times). Then it had taken down 12% of Health from toxic spikes and 20% from Life Orb. Since I had a Defensive Heatran, I knew it wudn't KO. So I protected first turn.42% of damage became 60%. and then it used CC, didn't KO and Lava Plume finished it.

But I think I might have got lucky with that or maybe I got minimum damage. But thanks for the rate, and I will watch out for the Nasty Plotting Infernape and will take action. THanks SS.

I agree latias is needed over heatran, I don't think that set fits in with this team. You also need a solid water counter, latias helps this, but wish vaporeon could also be useful to heal up you team and take on gyrados and friends as well as crocune.

forretress seems very stallish on this team, would skarmory be better, can still get spies up and skarm can wirlwind, brave bird and take on lots of physical attackers.
