Boasting an excellent speed and ability, Greninja can function as a potent, albeit niche, cleaner, being able to snowball with its one-time boosts acquired through Battle Bond, while also being able to apply large amounts of pressure on metagame staples such as Gliscor, Landorus-T and Mega Diancie. Hydro Pump is the preferred Water-type STAB move due to it securing an OHKO on Tapu Koko after any chip and a 2HKO on Ting Lu, although Surf can be used as a more accurate, slightly less potent alternative. Water Shuriken helps Greninja's revenge killing capabilities, letting it pick off weakened threats such as Mega Lopunny, Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Tapu Koko as well as stopping setup sweepers such as Volcarona from getting out of hand. Ice Beam allows Greninja to hit Dragon-types such as Dragonite and Garchomp, while also being its most reliable method of killing Landorus-T and Gliscor. Life Orb is the item of choice to enhance Greninjas breaking powers, allowing it to 2HKO Toxapex with Dark Pulse and OHKO non Assault Vest Tapu Lele after Stealth Rocks, both after Battle Bond.
Greninja fits exclusively on hyper offense and sometimes rain teams due to its ability to clean up games with its priority and good coverage.
Greninja benefits from designated hazard setting leads such as Mega Diancie, Landorus-T and Iron Treads, with the Stealth Rocks they provide allowing Greninja to clean up games far easier. Other excellent partners for Greninja include Electric-types such as Raging Bolt which can help Greninja with foes such as Toxapex and Assault Vest Alomomola. In return Greninja can threaten Ground-types such as Iron Treads and Gliscor which could prove problematic. Fire- and Fighting-types can also be helpful assets, with teammates such as Zamazenta, Volcarona and Mega Charizard X being able to threaten some Steel-types that annoy Greninja such as Ferrothorn and Assault Vest Melmetal. In return Greninja can deal with Ground-types such as Landorus-Therian and Gliscor that can prove problematic, while also being able to threaten other Fire-types such as opposing Volcarona effectively. Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Garchomp can also provide an Electric-type immunity against foes such as Raging Bolt, while also being able to set Stealth Rocks to improve Greninjas breaking capabilities, with it in return being able to threaten Flying-types such as Zapdos and Tornadus-T with Ice Beam. Greninja also appreciates rain support from Pelliper, boosting it's Hydro Pumps and Water Shurikens greatly, improving it's breaking and cleaning capabilities greatly, while also providing a Fighting-type resistance against the aforementioned Zamazenta as well as Urshifu-R.
