[SET COMMENTS]
Eternatus is a premier defensive staple in the tier due to its solid typing, excellent bulk, and useful utility options. It consistently checks prominent Extreme Speed users, including Altarianite Regieleki, Dragonite, Hisuian Arcanine, and Entei, as well as other physical wallbreakers like Urshifu-R and Zamazenta. Both its STAB moves, Sludge Bomb and Dynamax Cannon, are highly spammable and devastating; the former, in particular, applies pressure with its high poison chance. Eternatus uses Flamethrower to avoid being completely walled by Steel-types like Magearna, Corviknight, Kingambit, and Aggronite or Rusted Sword Zamazenta. It can also choose Toxic over one of its STAB moves to immediately pressure defensive threats and setup sweepers like various Arceus formes, Ho-Oh, and non-Sablenite variants of Garganacl, Alomomola, and Mandibuzz. Alternatively, Toxic Spikes helps spread poison on opponents and limits common VoltTurn cores such as Urshifu-R + Raging Bolt; however, it is heavily countered by Magic Bounce users. Rocky Helmet is the preferred item for punishing most physical attackers, especially Urshifu-R when it uses Surging Strikes. Heavy-Duty Boots is a reasonable choice to prevent hazard chip on Eternatus, while Black Sludge offers some passive recovery. The speed EVs enable Eternatus to outspeed Hearthflame Mask Great Tusk, and bulky variants of Arceus formes. Eternatus fits well into bulky offense and balance teams. Specially defensive partners like Magearna, Ho-Oh, and Garganacl create strong cores with Eternatus; Magearna benefits from its ability to check Fire-types like Entei and Hisuian Arcanine, while Ho-Oh and Garganacl rely on it to handle Urshifu-R. Non-Heavy-Duty Boots variants are susceptible to hazards and greatly benefit from hazard removers like Great Tusk, Regieleki, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight. Hazard setters like Garganacl, Magearna, Clodsire, and Great Tusk, combined with Eternatus’ own chip damage from Rocky Helmet, Sludge Bomb, Toxic, or Toxic Spikes, effectively wear down multiple threats such as Urshifu-R, Hisuian Arcanine, Zamazenta, and Arceus formes. Eternatus can apply pressure to Ground-types like Great Tusk and Arceus-Ground when they switch in, but it prefers not to stay in against them. Teammates that can check Ground-type foes, such as Ho-Oh, Arceus-Water, and Milotic, are valuable teammates for covering this weakness. Eternatus pairs well with teammates such as Urshifu-R, Raging Bolt, and Zamazenta by providing them with free switch-ins against Pixilate Extreme Speed users. Iron Moth is another excellent partner, as it can safely switch into and threaten Magearna, one of Eternatus's best checks.
