[SET COMMENTS]
Hydrapple with its solid offenses and its long lasting presence in battle allows it to fit as a setup sweeper that can apply a lot of pressure to balance playstyles. With regenerator it can take small hits from Rotom-W, Slowking, and Boots Keldeo while also trading damage against Excadrill, and Tornadus-T and recover it off throughout the course of the battle. Draco Meteor on Hydrapple is usually preferred as its consistent high damage output allows it to pose a threat to Pokemon that Fickle Beam could not consistently threaten like Tornadus-T, Ogerpon-C, and Lokix. Fickle Beam on the other hand allows Hydrapple to retain its Nasty Plot boosts with the lack of a drawback and makes it so the opponent cannot switch out to something like Excadrill, Heatran, and Tera Steel to weaken it considerably by absorbing the Draco Meteor or using a weakened Pokemon to bring in an ally to take advantage of it, Fickle Beam 30% chance to double in power makes it able to do large amounts of burst damage to the opponent and can even pick up kills where Draco Meteor could not such as Assault Vest Tornadus-T, and Skarmory. Earth Power provides coverage against Pokemon like Fezandipiti and Steel Type Pokemon like Heatran and Tinkaton super effectively. The item of choice is Heavy-Duty Boots as it provides longevity in the face of hazards and allows it to be consistently good health to be checking Excadrill, Keldeo, and to continue to take advantage of weak Pokemon like Slowking and Rotom-W. Tera Steel turns the tables on Ogerpon-C, Latios, while also giving it an immunity to Poison which can be helpful against matchups such as Revavroom, Fezandipiti, and Toxapex. Tera Fairy on the other hand lets it eat up moves from Lokix, opposing Hydrapple, and Iron Jugulis without making it more vulnerable to Ground and Fighting moves from Conkeldurr, Focus Blast Tornadus-T, and Donphan
Hydrapple is a great wallbreaker on balance and bulky offense where it would use its great bulk and good typing in order to switch into Pokemon and use them for setup. It does well on those teams thanks to the defensive profile and how well it matches up into Slowking, Excadrill, and Rotom-W. It appreciates teammates who can defensively assist it like Slowking, Cobalion, and Tornadus-T by taking on threats that can force it out like Latios, Tornadus-T, and Lokix. A double regenerator core can be formed with either Slowking or Tornadus-T which can allow the team to sustain a lot of damage. In addition to forming a Regenator core, Slowking is also able to be very useful defensively taking on foes like Tornadus-T, Keldeo, and Latios while threatening paralysis which is a great asset in order to help Hydrapple as paralysis against Skeledirge and Tinkaton can give it free turns and allow it to break through them more easily. Chilly Reception is a great tool to have as it can bring in Hydrapple freely while also bringing it against Pokemon it has a favorable matchup against. Knock Off users like Tornadus-T and Lokix who can help remove items from targets like Fezandipiti and opposing Tornadus-T can allow Hydrapple to have a much easier time taking advantage of its setup opportunities as Tornadus-T without its Assault Vest is in grave danger to a boosted Draco Meteor. Entry hazard setters like Cobalion and Tinkaton which are crucial to get targets into range like Ogerpon-C, Zarude, and Tinkaton in addition to providing it with answers to Lokix, and Hydreigon. Tinkaton's Encore is a great gift to have as it can generate free turns against recovery and setup attempts in addition to being able to cripple Lokix and Tornadus-T with Pickpocket. Hydrapple can also find a spot on sand teams as they would appreciate the defensive presence to deal with water moves from Keldeo, Rotom-W, and Greninja.
