Pecharunt @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Poison Puppeteer
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Tera Type: Dark / Fairy / Water
Bold Nature
- Malignant Chain
- Foul Play
- Parting Shot
- Recover
With exceptional Defense, reliable recovery, and a donated HP or Special Defense stat, Pecharunt can serve the role of a wall. With investment in both HP and Defense, Pecharunt can be incredibly difficult to take down, with even super-effective attacks from Attack-boosted foes failing to reliably KO it. Malignant Chain serves as a primary STAB, frustrating any foe that wishes to try to bring it low via consistent chip thanks to a potent secondary effect. Foul Play serves as a protection against physical attackers seeking to undo Pecharunt via boosting, such as Ceruledge or Calyrex-Ice-Rider, returning that investment back towards the foe. Parting Shot serves as a means of pivoting, setting up a teammate for success with a dropped foe's offensive stat and, given its slower nature, likely tanking a hit for it before it switches in. Recover enables longevity, ensuring anything that can't outright 2HKO it likely won't be able to take it down at all. Terastalization serves primarily defensive purpose here, with Dark being somewhat an exception to be used to help secure KOes with Foul Play; the other two options provide strong defensive profiles that have little overlap with Pecharunt's default weaknesses.
While Pecharunt has success as a wall before recieving any donation, any god that can provide reasonable donations to HP or Special Defense, such as Calyrex-I, any Arceus, and Ho-Oh will be well-recieved by Pecharunt. Pokemon that set up hazards, like Samurott-H or Ting-Lu, appreciate Pecharunt's Ghost-type preventing the easy removal of their hard work from the tier's prominent Rapid Spin users like Great Tusk and Iron Treads. Even with a weakness to Ground-type attacks, Pecharunt's sky-high Defense and potentially an HP donation alongside reliable recovery can make it not as worried about those attacks as its foes would like it to be. As for its benefit, Pecharunt lacks meaningful offensive presence, so appreciates offensively inclined Pokemon like Hydrapple, Zamazenta, and Landorus to provide damage. Additionally, even if recieving meaningful increase in Special Defense, it should not be the sole wall on a team, as reduced Recover PP and a low Speed stat means that without support, Pecharunt will slowly crack under consistent pressure. It appreciates specially defensive teammates like Mandibuzz or Ting-Lu, which mostly have resistances or immunities to Pecharunt's weaknesses, providing the other side of a solid defensive core with it.
