National Dex Defensive Pivot Rotom-Wash

[SET]
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Tera Type: Steel / Ghost
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split / Defog

Blessed with great typing alongside Levitate, Rotom-W is an exceptional defensive pivot, able to switch in and cripple physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp, as well as pivoting out of them safely using Volt Switch in order to bring in teammates. Furthermore, offensive teams appreciate its ability to check a multitude of threats, such as Mega Scizor, Mega Swampert, and Heatran. Common entry hazard setters such as Hisuian Samurott and Great Tusk value Rotom-W's STAB combination of Hydro Pump + Volt Switch, which naturally hits most hazard removers of the tier such as Great Tusk, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Tornadus-T for super effective damage, threatening them and keeping up hazards. This also helps teammates such as Urshifu-R, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Diancie wallbreak more easily, as the added chip helps in breaking down their checks. Pain Split is Rotom-W's main form of recovery, allowing it to keep itself healthy throughout a match, although it is shaky due to its inconsistency. Defog is also an option, further facilitating bringing frail teammates in safely; however, Rotom-W struggles to threaten the premier Defog blocker in Gholdengo, although it can pivot out of it with Volt Switch. Due to Dragon-types' natural resistance to Water- and Electric-type moves, Fairy- and Ice-types such as Iron Valiant, Tapu Lele, and Weavile are extremely helpful in forcing progress against them. Rotom-W also struggles against Grass-types such as Kartana and Ferrothorn, which Volcarona, Mega Scizor, and Mega Charizard Y help threaten, with Mega Scizor notably forming a powerful VoltTurn core with Rotom-W. Tera Steel is the preferred Tera type for Rotom-W, granting it a number of useful resistances such as to Baxcalibur's Glaive Rush and Icicle Spear as well as Fairy-type STAB moves from Mega Diancie, Tapu Lele, and Iron Valiant. Tera Steel also grants an immunity to Toxic from Pokemon like Clodsire, Gliscor, and Toxapex, which would otherwise severely dampen Rotom-W's lifespan. Tera Ghost is another great option in order to spinblock Great Tusk, wall Swords Dance Gliscor, and, in a pinch, gain an immunity to Fighting-type STAB moves from Pokemon like Zamazenta, Urshifu-R, Great Tusk, and Sneasler.

Blessed with great typing alongside Levitate, Rotom-W is an exceptional defensive pivot, able to come in and cripple physical attackers, as well as pivot out of them safely using Volt Switch in order to bring in teammates. Offensive teams appreciate Rotom-W's ability to check a multitude of threats, such as Scizor-Mega, Swampert-Mega, and Heatran. Hydro Pump+Volt Switch naturally hits most hazard removers of the tier such as Great Tusk, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Tornadus-T for super effective damage, threatening them and letting hazards stay longer on the opponent's side of the field. (tbh i like the idea of this section, but given rotom-W doesnt set hazards its pretty irrelevant. you CAN keep it, you just need to include how this lets it synergize with hazard setters such as X, Y, and Z) This, in turn, helps teammates such as Urshifu-R, Lopunny-Mega, and Mega-Diancie wall break easier as the added chip helps in breaking down their checks. Pain Split is Rotom-W's main form of recovery, keeping itself healthy throughout a match, although it is shaky due to the inconsistency it provides. Defog is also an option, removing hazards and further facilitating in bringing frail teammates in safely, however, Rotom-W struggles to Defog in front of more offensive-oriented Stealth Rock setters such as Diancie-Mega and Toxic Garchomp which is a limiting factor in its viability. (idt a single remover in the tier consistently comes in on and removes in front of MDia, maybe instead list how it struggles to do meaningful damage to gholdengo, but can pivot on it with Volt Switch) Due to the natural resistance of Dragon to Water and Electric, Fairy- and Ice types such as Iron Valiant, Tapu Lele, and Weavile are extremely helpful in forcing progress against them. Rotom-W also struggles against Grass types such as Kartana and Ferrothorn, as well as Mega Charizard-Y packing Solar Beam, which Volcarona, Scizor-Mega, and Diancie-Mega Mega Charizard-Y help threaten, with Scizor-Mega notably forming a powerful VoltTurn core. Tera Steel is the preferred Tera type for Rotom-W, granting it a number of useful resistances such as resisting Baxcalibur's Glaive Rush and Icicle Spear, as well as Fairy STAB from Diancie-Mega, Tapu Lele, and Iron Valiant. Tera Steel also grants immunity to Toxic from Pokemon like Clodsire, Gliscor, and Toxapex which would otherwise severely dampen Rotom-W's lifespan while not being threatened by the former two's Earthquake. Tera Ghost is also an option in order to spin block Great Tusk, as well as gain immunity in a pinch to fighting STAB from Pokemon like Zamazenta, Urshifu-R, Great Tusk, and Iron Valiant Sneasler and then cripple with Will-O-Wisp. (Walling SD Glisc is pretty notable too)
