DeoDus: The new age of Rain Hyper Offense

Introduction:
Hello my name is Prince of Persian and I love to play competitive pokemon. Recently I have been trying to come up with some cool ideas for pokemon teams instead of using the same thing on every OU team. I came across rain and decided...what the heck it seems pretty fun. After playing with rain for a while, I discovered that Deoxys is a fabulous rain/hazard setter and Tornadus is a decent defiant sweeper so....DeoDus was born

Because of the weather nerf, rain hasn't been seen very much in Gen 6. However a devastating core has been discovered in Deoxys-S, Politoed, Kingdra, and Kabutops. Even though the weather was nerfed, Drizzle and Swift Swim are now allowed in OU, which is a huge reason why this core is so effective. I simply took this core, modified it, and created something that I think is fairly cool. To call it something revolutionary...no, but it is fairly cool.
The Team:

politoed.gif

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SAtk / 56 SDef
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song

Politoed is my dedicated rain setter number 1. While it may seem like Politoed should be holding a Choice item on an offensive team, Damp Rock is one of the best choices available: it is vital that Politoed can set up the rain for as long as possible, and Damp Rock makes sure of that. On this team, in addition to summoning rain, Politoed also plays the role of a bulky attacker. Hidden Power Grass hits Gastrodon to prevent it from absorbing Water-type attacks, and Perish Song helps combat Baton Pass chains.

deoxys-speed.gif

Deoxys-Speed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Magic Coat

I can say that Deoxys-Speed is a fantastic addition to Rain Teams. It doesn't stack weaknesses with any common Rain Pokemon and has a lot of tools to work with. Taunt is invaluable to ensure that you can safely set up Rain without being Taunted. Rain Pokemon also do not appreciate any hazards, and Taunt + Magic Coat greatly help with this. Deoxys-Speed can also set up Stealth Rock to aid in wearing down the opposition, as many Rain Pokemon cause switches and it is fantastic to rack up damage.

Tornadus_XY.gif

Tornadus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave
- Hurricane
- Superpower

I really do love this set. It is able to use Defiant to switch into common defog users such as Latias and deal massive damage to bulky variants with Knock Off and have a very good chance of knocking out non-bulky variants after the +2 Attack boost. It also lures in common Tornadus counters such as Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar and is able to hit them on their weaker physical side with a super effective Life Orb boosted Superpower. The bad part about this set is that it contains heat wave that is weakened in the rain, however the reason I think that this set outshines Thundurus's set is because it has access to the devastating Hurricane. Hurricane is able to hit pokes like mega venusaur and Conkeldurr for SE damage, something that Thundurus had to do with a fly.

kabutops.gif

Kabutops @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 228 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Low Kick
Kabutops is freaking scary under Rain. Take his already great attack and put a choice band on it under the rain and in just wreaks shit. I use a CB set instead of a SD set because I don't like having him in a long time, especially with the rain only lasting 8 turns. Also I wanted to have Low Kick and Aqua Jet. It is very powerful, and it can even Aqua Jet to kill off Talonflame, which can severely dent Kabutops surprisingly. Kabutops is one of the best Swift Swim sweepers and works fantastically on this team.

MegaScizor_XY.gif

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 164 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost

After I finished the core I wanted something that could be the glue of this team and Mega Scizor fit the role. Scizor benefits from the rain because it turns his only 4x fire weakness into 2x. Scizor also has a great priority move in Bullet Punch and can get me some safe switchin's with it's slow U-turn. Now I know what you're thinking, Why am I running Defog? Defog is only used as an absolute necessity!! Sticky Web can dent Kabutops from late game sweeping and Stealth Rocks really hurt two of my pokes.

Thundurus_Therian_Forme_XY.gif

Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast

As you look at my team there is a pretty big weakness to electric types, so I wanted something that would resist Electric moves and use the rain effectively and Thundurus-T is a perfect poke to to that. Volt Swith is to have a stong elec move outside of the rain and gains some momentum. Hidden Power [Ice] is a great coverage move against ground and grass types. And Focus Blast is to hit steels and Tyranitar.
Threats:
248_-_tyranitar.gif
Charizard_MegaY_XY.gif

Other weather inducers can be a pain in the rear if I don't play correctly. Zard Y also kinda wrecks my Tornadus because I can't hit him with anything, only dent with a superpower.

tumblr_inline_mxt5kxbY3H1rvg5zj.gif
alakazam.gif

I really have to play around Aegislash because the only thing I have for his is Tornadus. Alakazam always takes something down because of Focus Sash and Magic Guard.

medicham-mega.gif
talonflame-gif.9793

Priority really hurts this team because most of the pokes are super frail and if play really well, can even take this team down.

Importable:
Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SAtk / 56 SDef
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song

Tornadus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave
- Hurricane
- Superpower

Kabutops @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 228 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Low Kick

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 164 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost

Deoxys-Speed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Magic Coat

Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast

Beginning Team Replays:
(These are matches when the team was be constructed so all the moves aren't the same.)

A Perfect Example of the Devastating Tornadus Set
Match displaying the Defiant shenanigans
Hazards nearly costing me the match
Devastation of Priority on this team, but still won

Conclusion:
Thanks for just looking at this team. I know it's not super good, but I feel it is decent and viable. Please feel free to give suggestions below on how I can improve this team.

Yo. Sweet HO team here. I love the use of Torn-I, who is surprisingly in RU lol. Anyway, I have some minor suggestions. First is a change in your current Deo-S. I believe that winning weather wars against common common pokes is really vital for your team (plus it's in your threatlist lol). I suggest running Superpower > Taunt on Deo-S. With minimal Attack investment (20 Atk) allows you to OHKO 0 HP Tyranitar after SR. Using Torn-I to KO TTar puts you at risk of loosing one of your rain abusers.
Deoxys-Speed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 20 Atk / 232 Def ~just tweaked your spread, but you can play around with other spreads
Naive Nature
- Superpower
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Magic Coat
And second, I would suggest running Life Orb > Choice Band on Kabutops. Rain lasts only 5-7 turns which is kinda short (compared to perma rain anyway). LO trades a few points of power for the versatility to change moves. That allows you to abuse the speed boost Swift Swim provides by mixing up the attacks you throw.

Other than that, solid team! Good luck and welcome to Smogon!

Hi there! Pretty amazing team! I used to use a rain team (I started playing this competitively this gen also) and I loved it so I hope you do too! Here are a few suggestions of my own.
1. I suggest using a Pranster Tornadus instead of Defiant. Yes Defiant is ok but in my opinion, I found Pranster Tornadus better to use.
Tornadus set:
Tornadus @ Damp Rock
Naive - Prankster
252 spd / 252 sp. atk/ 4 sp. def
- Taunt
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- Rain Dance
I know you use two rain dancers already but I think Tornadus is better than Deoxys for setting up Rain Dance and Taunt. With Tornadus doing the setting up instead of Deoxys all by itself, Deoxys has free moveslots and you don't have to worry about keeping Deoxys alive to Taunt, set up rain ect. Also M Charizard Y will have trouble doing damage to Tornadus if it uses a Prankster Rain Dance as soon as it Charizard Mega Evolves . Back to Deoxys, if you want to use this Tornadus set then I would recomend Superpower (like Not Bruce Wayne meantioned). Final Slot I would probably go Psychic or some other set up move like Spikes.
2. I also agree about changing Choice Band Kabutops to Life Orb. It does less damage but you don't have to keep switching out to change moves (which wastes rain turns)
I hope this helps and enjoy using the rain team!

Alright Ill try superpower instead of taunt and life orb. If i do that should I run a SD set on Kabutops instead?

I absolutly agree that Tornadus is a fantastic rain setter. I even used that set when starting out with this team. However, the DeoDus is one of the main components that makes this team so awesome and unpredictable that I don't want to change it. Thank you so much for the suggestion though!

I would consider SD an option, but you're better off running 4 moves in general. SD is a high risk, high reward move. It costs you one turn of precious rain but your Attack skyrockets to godly levels. I'm against it, but it's up to you tbh lol. Glad my suggestions helped and good luck with your team!

I did try the life orb set over the choice band set. Switching moves was fantastic, however I was missing the power I needed to severely dent teams. For example: a common switchin to Kabutops is Skarmory thinking they can tank the hit, but look at these stats:
252+ Atk Life Orb Kabutops Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory in Rain: 148-175 (44.3 - 52.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Kabutops Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory in Rain: 169-199 (50.5 - 59.5%) -- 83.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I find it a huge deal that I can 2hko a skarmory with a non SE attack. It also helps for late game sweeping. If you think is an absolute necessary to have life orb then I might consider the SD set.
