Introduction:
Hello my name is Prince of Persian and I love to play competitive pokemon. Recently I have been trying to come up with some cool ideas for pokemon teams instead of using the same thing on every OU team. I came across rain and decided...what the heck it seems pretty fun. After playing with rain for a while, I discovered that Deoxys is a fabulous rain/hazard setter and Tornadus is a decent defiant sweeper so....DeoDus was born
Because of the weather nerf, rain hasn't been seen very much in Gen 6. However a devastating core has been discovered in Deoxys-S, Politoed, Kingdra, and Kabutops. Even though the weather was nerfed, Drizzle and Swift Swim are now allowed in OU, which is a huge reason why this core is so effective. I simply took this core, modified it, and created something that I think is fairly cool. To call it something revolutionary...no, but it is fairly cool.
The Team:
Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SAtk / 56 SDef
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song
Politoed is my dedicated rain setter number 1. While it may seem like Politoed should be holding a Choice item on an offensive team, Damp Rock is one of the best choices available: it is vital that Politoed can set up the rain for as long as possible, and Damp Rock makes sure of that. On this team, in addition to summoning rain, Politoed also plays the role of a bulky attacker. Hidden Power Grass hits Gastrodon to prevent it from absorbing Water-type attacks, and Perish Song helps combat Baton Pass chains.
Deoxys-Speed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Magic Coat
I can say that Deoxys-Speed is a fantastic addition to Rain Teams. It doesn't stack weaknesses with any common Rain Pokemon and has a lot of tools to work with. Taunt is invaluable to ensure that you can safely set up Rain without being Taunted. Rain Pokemon also do not appreciate any hazards, and Taunt + Magic Coat greatly help with this. Deoxys-Speed can also set up Stealth Rock to aid in wearing down the opposition, as many Rain Pokemon cause switches and it is fantastic to rack up damage.
Tornadus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave
- Hurricane
- Superpower
I really do love this set. It is able to use Defiant to switch into common defog users such as Latias and deal massive damage to bulky variants with Knock Off and have a very good chance of knocking out non-bulky variants after the +2 Attack boost. It also lures in common Tornadus counters such as Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar and is able to hit them on their weaker physical side with a super effective Life Orb boosted Superpower. The bad part about this set is that it contains heat wave that is weakened in the rain, however the reason I think that this set outshines Thundurus's set is because it has access to the devastating Hurricane. Hurricane is able to hit pokes like mega venusaur and Conkeldurr for SE damage, something that Thundurus had to do with a fly.
Kabutops @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 228 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Low Kick
Kabutops is freaking scary under Rain. Take his already great attack and put a choice band on it under the rain and in just wreaks shit. I use a CB set instead of a SD set because I don't like having him in a long time, especially with the rain only lasting 8 turns. Also I wanted to have Low Kick and Aqua Jet. It is very powerful, and it can even Aqua Jet to kill off Talonflame, which can severely dent Kabutops surprisingly. Kabutops is one of the best Swift Swim sweepers and works fantastically on this team.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 164 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
After I finished the core I wanted something that could be the glue of this team and Mega Scizor fit the role. Scizor benefits from the rain because it turns his only 4x fire weakness into 2x. Scizor also has a great priority move in Bullet Punch and can get me some safe switchin's with it's slow U-turn. Now I know what you're thinking, Why am I running Defog? Defog is only used as an absolute necessity!! Sticky Web can dent Kabutops from late game sweeping and Stealth Rocks really hurt two of my pokes.
Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
As you look at my team there is a pretty big weakness to electric types, so I wanted something that would resist Electric moves and use the rain effectively and Thundurus-T is a perfect poke to to that. Volt Swith is to have a stong elec move outside of the rain and gains some momentum. Hidden Power [Ice] is a great coverage move against ground and grass types. And Focus Blast is to hit steels and Tyranitar.
Threats:
Other weather inducers can be a pain in the rear if I don't play correctly. Zard Y also kinda wrecks my Tornadus because I can't hit him with anything, only dent with a superpower.
I really have to play around Aegislash because the only thing I have for his is Tornadus. Alakazam always takes something down because of Focus Sash and Magic Guard.
Priority really hurts this team because most of the pokes are super frail and if play really well, can even take this team down.
Importable:
Beginning Team Replays:
(These are matches when the team was be constructed so all the moves aren't the same.)
A Perfect Example of the Devastating Tornadus Set
Match displaying the Defiant shenanigans
Hazards nearly costing me the match
Devastation of Priority on this team, but still won
Conclusion:
Thanks for just looking at this team. I know it's not super good, but I feel it is decent and viable. Please feel free to give suggestions below on how I can improve this team.
