Hello, my name is Aladyyn and I suck at building teams. I really try though! I did a couple of RMTs back in late BW2, but haven't really built much of note during XY so it took me this long to actually do one. XY NU is still something that I haven't gotten a hang of compared to BW2 so I'm still exploring fun things and just playing and stuff. This team is based on probably my favorite mon to use currently: Zweilous. There was some talk about CB Zweilous on the NU QC team and these totally ridiculous calcs kept popping up. I had a team with it already but it was pretty meh so I decided to go for a more balanced route instead of straight up offense. My friend HJAD threw around a couple things that might work well with it and so the team was born. It has quite a couple flaws, but I've been really enjoying it nonetheless.

The name of the team is a homage to my favorite album to listen to while playing: Dying Fetus' Destroy the Opposition.

Praise The Lord (Zweilous) @ Choice Band
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Head Smash

Choice Band Zweilous is basically the strongest physical wallbreaker in NU. Hustle is basically like a second Band, so even with mediocre 85 base Attack, it hits like a freight train. It hits so hard even trucks try to get out of the way. Outrage's 120 base power means that NOTHING except Fairy or Steel types is EVER switching in (except stupid stuff like defensive Rhydon). And that is basically the whole deal with Zweilous. Once it's on the battlefield, NOTHING can come in safely, especially with hazards up. Crunch is for a safe STAB move if you can't afford risking being locked in with Outrage and it still hits pretty hard even with it's low base power of 80. Superpower hits every Steel type that switches in in hopes of taking advantage of Zweilous, such as Klinklang and Steelix. Head Smash smashes every Fairy in the tier for at least a 2HKO after hazards (Granbull). Yes I know, it only has 64% accuracy but who cares when most of the time hitting once is all you need (against stuff like Slurpuff and Togetic). I admit accuracy is often a bitch with Zweilous, it is the price you pay for having the insane power that it possesses. Missing 1/5 of your moves is more than worth it when if you hit you annihilate everything in your path.

Epidemic of Hate (Sawk) (M) @ Choice Band

Ability: Mold Breaker

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Close Combat

- Knock Off

- Poison Jab

- Earthquake

Sawk is the second part of my wallbreaking core. The blue man doesn't suffer from lack of speed as much as Zweilous so it can do more work against more offensive teams, where Zweilous is often limited to one or two KOs a battle. I actually haven't been a big fan of Sawk this gen compared to BW2 where it was really amazing. The meta is faster and the Knock Off buff didn't really help Sawk as much as most of us thought. Even then, it still has that stupidly powerful Close Combat that can whack even some resists. Knock Off is obviously for Ghosts and Psychics and it's just generally a safe move to click in most situations. Poison Jab whacks Fairies such as Slurpuff and Granbull (it still does like no damage, but better than nothing!). In the last slot I like Earthquake because it gets SE coverage on poison types such as Garbodor, Qwilfish, Dragalge and Weezing. Hitting levitators is useful in general as you don't have to be afraid of Rotom taking advantage of you if you lock yourself into EQ. This used to be Jolly, but I decided the extra speed wasn't worth the lost KOs.

115.png

Epidemic of Hate (Kangaskhan) (F) @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Aqua Tail

Sawk was replaced by Kangaskhan to give me an extra out to all of rain, Slurpuff, and other dangerous setup sweepers, including Double Dance Rhydon, courtesy of Aqua Tail, as suggested by Dat Blast - it's really been working wonders, I never liked Drain Punch due to lack of power and EQ suffers from a similar problem against a lot of its targets. Most of the things I want Aqua Tail against are x4 weak to it (basically Rhydon), so the loss of power isn't as noticeable. Basically priority is so good against a ton of threats this team struggles with and Kanga makes for a decently reliable revenge killer even against stuff like Rotom. I use a Jolly nature even though Adamant seems to be more popular for some reason. With Jolly I can outspeed: Vivillon, all nonScarfed Sawk, HP Fire Lilligant, +speed Mesprit, and other more niche Pokemon.

599.png

Born In Sodom (Garbodor) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe or EVs: 252 HP / 160 SpDef / 96 Spe
Impish or Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Toxic Spikes
- Drain Punch

As you may have noticed, my first two mons are potential bait for Slurpuff, one of the most dangerous setup sweepers in the tier. That is where Garbodor comes into play. This cute mon is probably the most important teammate for Zweilous, because it can take advantage of most mons that take advantage of our little dragon that could. Checking Slurpuff is Garbo's main job and it does it exceptionally well. The other benefit of Garbodor is obviously spikestacking. Spikes are super good in NU and even though Garbodor usually only gets up 1 or 2 layers, they can be crucial in wearing down mons enough so that my wallbreakers can get more KOs and helping my cleaner actually clean. Rocky Helmet + Aftermath is a great last resort against all kinds of physical attackers (Feraligatr, Hariyama etc). The spread is changed from time to time, defensive makes Gurdurr not as big of a problem as it is and spdef is a better check to Calm Mind Slurpuff, even though it isn't as scary as the Belly Drum variant (if it has Surf it can be very troublesome though). Pain Split was replaced by Drain Punch, because Klinklang is naughty and I never really used it anyways.

112.png

Stop At Nothing (Rhydon) @ Eviolite
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Blast
- Roar

Fire types are a huge force in the NU metagame and every team needs a way to check them. Rhydon is my preferred one because it can also set up Stealth Rock and phaze. With a specially defensive spread Rhydon gets great bulk on both sides of the spectrum and it can live some crazy stuff. It also acts as a Normal/Flying check, a thing you should never leave home without either - Zangoose, Swellow, and Kanga all have the potential to give my offensive mons a lot of trouble but thanks to Rhydon and Garbodor they are usually not a big problem if I simply play my cards well. Roar is also super useful just so I don't lose to fast substitute sweepers that don't worry about Zwei or Sawk once behind a sub, such as Uxie, Liepard, or Bouffalant.

645.png

Reign Supreme (Cryogonal) @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

Cryogonal is a really interesting pokemon. As the meta progressed it has been partially overshadowed by the super hyped up Kabutops, but it still does a lot of things that nothing in the tier can really do at once. It spins, it checks things with its awesome natural special bulk, it can hit decently hard with its almost unresisted stabs AND it can do all of this throughout the match despite SR weakness thanks to access to Recover. Seriously, what's not to like here? On this team Cryo's main job is hard checking the Quiver Dancers Vivillon and Lilligant, which is why it holds Safety Goggles. I used to run Icicle Plate when I was using SpDef Garbodor, but got tired of figuring out what to use as sleep fodder. In the end I figured I'd just cut that out and switch in fearlessly with my best check. It also comes in handy against Vileplume and Sand (:D). As the team's sole special attacker it also gets the heavy duty of switching into Scalds and Will-o-Wisps from the likes of Seismitoad and Weezing. And last but not least in some matchups it acts as a decent anti-lead in case the opponent has Seismitoad, Sandslash or something similar as their Stealth Rock setter.

486.png

In Times of War (Mesprit) @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Levitate

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Zen Headbutt

- Knock Off

- U-turn

- Healing Wish

This Mesprit set was really hyped up but it definitely lives up to expectations. In my last slot I wanted a cleaner that could take advantage of Zwei's and Sawk's wallbreaking capabilities. In addition to that, Mesprit can give me momentum or alternatively give an extra life to one of my mons, extra useful against bulkier teams that don't want to deal with my wallbreakers more than once. It also acts as a secondary fighting resist, which really helps when half the team is weak to it. I don't know if I can add anything that hasn't been said about Mesprit, it's just a super versatile mon that can do work every time you bring it. Healing Wish is awesome, psychic stab is awesome, knock off is awesome, u-turn is awesome. Mesprit is awesome.

546.png

In Times of War (Musharna) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonlight
- Thunder Wave
- Heal Bell

While Mesprit really was awesome, it wasn't really needed as much after I added Kanga, so I decided to use Musharna instead. Musharna solves other problems with the team: weakness to Gurdurr, and Will-o-Wisp. I lacked a reliable Gurdurr check and Musharna is just about perfect for the job. I also no longer need to worry about one or more of my mons getting burned, as I can just absorb status with Mushy and heal it, or even just let something get burnt and Heal Bell afterwards. Thunder Wave is used to make Mushy an emergency check to just about anything - Typhlosion, Ludicolo, Mesprit, you name it. Psychic and Moonlight are staples on every Mushy set and are obviously used here as well.

Holy crud, this team is beautiful. Obviously, as you know what you're doing.

The only change that I might suggest is Physical Scarf Mesprit ---> Special Specs Mesprit. It's mostly a matter of personal preference, but I found that your team was heavily physically based and so had more trouble with some physical walls. This can be a problem, as you loose the speed match against Pokemon like Mismagius and Rotom, but your team is more than prepared enough to deal with these Pokemon. This is the set I ended up running:
Mesprit @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Healing Wish
- Dazzling Gleam
- Energy Ball

I decided to forgo Trick in place of Healing Wish, as I didn't really need Trick to disrupt walls, since your team does a great job of taking them out through sheer offensive strength. Healing Wish, as I believe you said, gave Zweilous and Sawk a second opportunity to really wreak havoc among the opposing team. Psychic helped tear apart tons of weakened teams. Honestly, this set on this team did miracles for me.

That's the only thing I have to offer. This team is marvelous. Great job :)

^ He needs Choice Scarf on Mesprit as otherwise threats faster than Cryogonal (Archeops, Sceptile (SD, Special), etc) would be way too hard for Aladyyn's team to handle (mostly Archeops, which would just 6-0 with Acrobatics and Earthquake if Rhydon gets weaken).

Cool team Aladyyn :)

The main issue that I can think of while looking at your team is that Rain teams can be annoying for you. IDK how you could fix that without changing too much tho (Ludicolo + Kabutops wrecks you). Sawk looks like the weakest link of your team so you can probably play around with different things over it (you already have a wallbreaker named Zweilous). You could also try different Ground-types over Rhydon depending on what you change Sawk to.

I got 2nd to last shoutout smh am I that meaningless to you.

#coolteam #notacooluser

I agree with Soulgazer that Rain Teams [weather in general] are incredibly annoying to you. You have no way of preventing their setup outside of sheer offensive force, and once up you literally get bodybagged. Furthermore, I find that your team tends to be incredibly weak to anything named Mesprit, as your only even "check" to it is Zweilous or Rhydon, either of which can be disposed of with one of its common coverage moves. Simply put, it comes in far too easily against half your team, and you have little way to pressure it otherwise, as it can even freely switch avoiding your spikes. Slurpuff also outright wrecks you if Garbodor is even mildly damaged, especially due to your lack of priority.

I think something that you may consider is to try All-Out Attacker Kangaskhan over Sawk. Sawk is imo kinda weak for your team and opens a lot of holes for you. Its choice locked nature often gets you completely set up on dependant of the move you are locked into, allowing stuff like Slurpuff or Mismagius to actually find opportunities to set up. Furthermore, Sawk's prediction heavy mindgames just for its heavy hits are rather unnecessary especially with your spikes support, as Kangaskhan pretty much will get all of the same kills. However, Kangaskhan helps your team play much for freely around many of the previously mentioned threats, relieving tons of stress from the likes of Rain and Slurpuff, while helping you to mess around with annoyances such as Mesprit and Mismagius a lot more. Its priority is definitely appreciated, and honestly with the amount of hazards support you have I don't see a decrease in power being noticeable at all.

Cool team broooski

nice team bb..to help mitigate the rain weakness, i suppose you could change sawk to standard. AV Hariyama, or potentially change garbodor to vileplume; as either yama or plume would help greatyl in beating rain teams. Idk if it is worth changing either though because if you go yama over sawk you lose wall breaking power, and going plume over garbodor leaves u weaker to puff and lacking spikes. Just some thoughts, cool team fren

Hello :) it's me again. The guy with the weird ass Sandslash with the Toxic/Knock Off/Rapid Spin/EQ. Anyway onto the rate. Might I suggest Suicide Lead Qwilifish over Garbodor? Only because of the Explosion which I feel helps to lure in Xatu that are looking to Magic Bounce your hazards. Safety Goggles is indeed pro on Crygonal,a a vivi counter I think? A suggestion is you may want to run HP:Fighting > Ice Beam for Probopass switchins. js. I do like one setup sweeper on a team so maybe you can try CM Colbur Berry Mesprit? You also seem to want a nuke? Try Adamant Zangoose :x. Or Sheer Force B00m Lix. Not as powerful but still. Or better yet,run a choice banded Granbull as your own Dragon/Fighting spam check :)

Also one other thing
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-175145426
this was a match we had. You get WAY too eager to get Zweilous in,and especially on Mesprit who you should know commonly carries Ice Beam. :P enjoy. EDIT:Also if you didn't quit so early this would have been a 6-0 :P

tl;dr cool team, just try out some other stuff

Brawlfest the truth is even worse (no I totally didn't forget you the first time, what are you talking about)

I guess the easiest way to fix the rain weakness would be using Seismitoad instead of Rhydon and then a bulkier spread on Cryo?

I'm not a big fan of Hariyama, but Kanga sounds interesting, it could check some of the troublesome things (Gurdurr is still a bitch though), but then I'd be inclined to replace Rhydon like SG said, because having this big of a fighting weakness would be pretty awkward.

For Sunny, I already have 2 nukes :P; also it's been already pointed out that I need Scarf on Mesprit to check faster stuff (though if I do use Kanga, I get some more leeway with Mesprit)

well played Fire Spam looks like it'll raze through this team tho. One Specs/Scarf Typhlosion and Pyroar on the bluffed Flame Plate set to snipe your Rhydon and that it :/. Maybe a Hariyama with KO/CC/Heavy Slam/IP with 16 speed evs for Vileplume and Think Fat to ease the pressure on Rhydon. This will let you breathe a little easier while playing. And I stand by that Safety Goggles Crygonal,it sir is WIN ^^. It looks like Farligatr @ +1(DD) or +2(SD) has field day with your team o_0. Try specially based scarf Mesprit to OHKO it after one round of SR or SPikes(or SR and Spikes :P). Of course you also have Aftermath and Rocky Helmet ot soften Gatr up. Just some extra insurance.opposing Fightning spam creates a lot of 50/50's tilted in your opponenet's favor becuase you have to play in the back with an easily predictable Garbodor switch(you prolly don't wanna go to Mesprit first up cause of Knock Off) that can be heavily exploited but that can be played around. Also can your Rhydon take +6 Slurpuff Play ROugh and phaze it out? If it can't...modify the EVs! If you go with Sp.Def based Garbodor special Slurpuff is that much less of a threat.

cb zweilous / cb sawk / garbodor / rhydon / cryo / scarf mesprit

rain and fire spam, as above posters have mentioned, can definitely be annoying for your team. but the biggest problem I see is that your team has three choiced pokemon, which puts an assload of pressure on you to predict well. zweilous is the only thing that can really spam its powerful attacks without too much fear of a bulky resist coming in (you have to predict a bit around stuff like togetic and slurpuff, but both of them get demolished by head smash), but with the decent miss chance of all of its attacks, there is even more pressure on you during the match. though it doesn't provide a hard counter by any means, using eviolite zwelous instead of choice band could help you check rain and fire spam a bit better and relieve some of the pressure that comes with running so many choiced pokemon.

otherwise, try out kangaskhan like brawlfest suggested and soulgazer alluded to and see if that helps. this might be even better, but I figured I'd offer another option in case you weren't a fan of kangaskhan.

suggested change:
634.png
@ eviolite | hustle
196 hp / 252 atk / 60 spe | adamant
outrage / crunch / thunder wave / head smash or superpower

speed outruns min speed base 65s, you'll probably want to use more creep if you're satisfied with outspeeding 65s. thunder wave helps you beat the things you need to without relying on hitting a crunch. head smash if you want to hit fairies, superpower if ferroseed.

I wanted to try Evio Zweilous, but on this team I think I'd rather replace Sawk than remove CB from Zwei. It lacks a lot of power and misses important KOs (needs 4 layers of hazards to have a chance to 2hko Granbull with Head Smash, needs 2 to ohko Slurpuff). I'll probably try it out when I test some variants of the team, but I'm not sold right now and I think Kanga/Yama over Sawk would be better.

If you're gonna try and replace Sawk then I would probably lean more towards Kangaskhan than Hariyama. The latter isn't a terrible option but I feel like the loss of Speed would change the dynamics of the team considerably more despite Hariyama sharing the same typing. If you go with Kanga, also just gonna toss out that it's probably worth toying around with its moveslots a little too, like possibly trying Aqua Tail over the standard EQ / Drain Punch since your team is pretty weak to Rock Polish Rhydon, and Kanga can help lure it.

Other than that, I can't make too many other suggestions other than I think it's worth testing Trick over Healing Wish on Mesprit--given the structure of your team I think Healing Wish is kinda just filler and Trick can further help with Rhydon + other stuff by locking it into a move. Also I'd consider Drain Punch on Garbodor somewhere too for Klinklang which can be kinda annoying as well.

So I've been testing the team with some of the suggested changes and I've come to this. The changes fixed a lot of the problems the team had and even though some new emerged, the team is now a lot more solid than it was before (fuck tauntwow mismag tho). I planned to qualify for the NU ladder tour with it but apparently I was not meant to as a browser crash cost me 30 points and I don't have time to climb back so I guess I'll be officially retiring this team for now.
