[OVERVIEW]
-Thanks to its decent offensive typing in Normal / Ground and ability, Huge Power, Diggersby is a good choice for a wallbreaker in the UU tier.
-It also has two immunities to Ghost- and Electric-type attacks, meaning it can be used as a switch in to those moves.
-However, it is held back somewhat by its average Speed tier that just misses out on outspeeding Pokemon with a Speed boosting nature in the base 80s, such as Mamoswine and Gyarados.
-It is also weak to Ice, Water, and Fighting, which are extremely common attacking types.
[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Body Slam
move 3: Quick Attack
move 4: Fire Punch / U-turn
item: Choice Band
ability: Huge Power
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Paragraph 1
-Earthquake is a powerful and spammable STAB move that OHKOs many popular Pokemon in the tier such as Bisharp, Nidoqueen, and Jirachi.
-Body Slam hits most of the things that Earthquake can't decently hard, and the 30% chance of paralysis can slow opponents down to a point where Diggersby can outspeed and KO them.
-Quick Attack can help it clean up weakened teams late-game, after any Ghost-types have been KO'd, of course. Sometimes, Diggersby can use this move to act as a revenge killler.
-Fire Punch allows Diggersby to kill Amoongus, Celesteela, and 2HKO Skarmory if Stealth Rock has been set up. U-turn should also be considered to maintain momentum, but without Fire Punch, it's walled by the aforementioned Skarmory and Celesteela.
-A Jolly Nature is preferred to outspeed Timid Nidoqueen and Celesteela, but an Adamant Nature can be used for extra power.
Paragraph 2
-Diggersby fits in on VoltTurn teams that can safely get it on the field, and Hyper Offense teams that want something with immediate power that doesn't require a boost.
-Slowking is a good partner for Choice Band Diggersby, as it can bring it in safely with Teleport and also restore its own HP with Regenerator.
-Rotom-H forms a nice VoltTurn core with it, as Diggersby can KO the Rock-types that threaten it, and Diggersby appreciates Rotom-H's resistance to Grass- and Ice- type attacks. However, they are both weak to Water, so a Grass-type such as Assault Vest Tangrowth would be beneficial as well.
[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Quick Attack
move 4: Fire Punch
item: Life Orb
ability: Huge Power
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Paragraph 1
-Swords Dance boosts Diggersby's already impressive Attack to 928, which makes it extremely hard to switch in to.
-As mentioned earlier, Earthquake is a ridiculously powerful STAB move that is easy to spam, and at +2, OHKOs a lot of the tier's defensive Pokemon, such as Amoongus, Slowking, and Chansey.
-Quick Attack is for killing things that are faster than Diggersby, like Latias and Keldeo.
-Fire Punch is used so that it isn't completely walled by Grass-types, Skarmory, and Celesteela.
Paragraph 2
-Because Diggersby is incredibly frail, this set is best for later in the game on Bulky Offense teams, when most of the things that outspeed it have been eliminated.
-Speedy Psychic-types like Latias are good choices for partners, as they can kill the Fighting-types that threaten Diggersby earlier in the game.
-Slowking is also a good partner, as it brings Diggersby in safely with Teleport.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
-Wild Charge can be used instead of Fire Punch to hit Water-types, but it isn't recommended because Fire Punch hits more of Diggersby's weaknesses super effectively.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fighting-types**: Fighting is a very prominent type in UU, and most of them run Close Combat, which will OHKO Diggersby no matter what Pokemon its being used by.
**Physically Defensive Tangrowth**: Both Choice Band and Swords Dance Diggersby are checked by Tangrowth, as it survives two Fire Punches from Choice Band Diggersby and the Swords Dance variant needs to get a boost before it can kill it. It can also put Diggersby to sleep using Sleep Powder and severely damage it with Giga Drain.
