Dissapointed with GameFreak

The hippo pokemon is just pathetic, really isn't creative at all. They might as well just make regular animals now....

In an attempt to kinda turn this into discussion...if I were to make a claim like this, I'd direct it at RBY and Seel, who not only has no real new designs added, but also no real name change from the real life equivalent.

yeah because i see sand spraying hippos at the zoo all the time. why couldn't it be like pidgey or ratatta? now those were creative.

I KNOW! I see arceauses at every pet store I go too! not to mention I see elephants that roll themselves into balls and those damn wynauts that poop on my windsheild.

Now Hootoot... that's a creavite pokemon

But seriously, gamefreak does make some really creative pokemon with tere own gimmicks. take ambipom for example, 2 tailed monkey. If you really want creative, look at the furry mexican duck platipus frog pinnaple thing that is ludicolo

For the sake of playing devil's advocate while still doing justice: you can point to opposites of the example of Seel or a hippo all you want, but that doesn't make them any more creative. Obviously Pokemon are not all creative or uncreative.

Whats wrong with hippo? I thought it was well done :S
Would be awesome if in the next gen the legendary pokemon would be dinosaurs.
that would be so sweet :D

Dinosaurs are weakwilled and terrible. I'd know, I've taken many a senior level paleo course in university.

Here's some things that would make AWESOME pokemon:
-Eurypterids
-Gorgonians
-Mosasaurs (might look like Rayquaza though)
-giant millipedes (so cool)

That would be awesome. Look em up, they're the bestest!

Not creative? I don't see any hippos in florests being drawned by sand that holes in it's body are releasing.

btw Hippowdon is a lot more creative than Tauros, Dewgong, Machop, Diglett (just put a finger in the sand and draw a face on it, bang, you have a diglett), Zubat (Tough Crobat is kinda creative), Ekans (Even the name is uncreative), and many things from 1st gen. (When I say many, I'm not saying all btw)

Not to say it pwns in battles, like someone said above.

Also there're many other things more important to discuss...

For the record, about 90% of pokes are based off of real creatures, Japanese Ghost stories, or other cryptozoological myths (mostly Japanese, but a few Western ones as well). Even Ludicolo is based off the kappa, a Japanese water imp who values only the taste of cucumbers over that of human flesh.

anyone else notice the creative changes when poliwhirl evolves into poliwrath?

but really, for anyone who hasn't noticed, most pokemon are based off animals and they even have the animals name slipped into there name somehow.

When I first saw Hippo, I thought it was ugly as fucking hell.

But really, they are quite creative. If anyone's noticed, there has been a different primate-inspired Pokemon every generation (Primeape, Aipom, Slaking, Infernape) and every single time they put a nice twist to it. On a side note, iirc, they never put a freaking zebra or tiger-inspired Pokemon. ;_;
(Emphasis on iirc---it's so hard to keep track of nearly 500 goddamn Pokemon...)

But there's a lot of other things I don't like that Gaemfreak has done over the years, so I'll just leave with the fact that I hate D/P in general. Not the metagame, hence why I'm here, but the actual games.

RBYGSC ftw.

I'm surprised this wasn't locked and Trou'd. But maybe this can be a decent discussio- wait, it doesn't matter how creative they are, the game is made and you can't do shit to change the names. Bitching won't help, as even in the one in a million chance that they would listen to any one of us, the names are already copyrighted and can't be changed.

They've had heaps of Mammals with fire spurting from various bodily orifices, but no one is complaining about Infernape.

To me they have been geting a little lazy but who are we to tell them that, they can do whatever they want with there games and how they make them

Infernape is inspired by the monkey god in the Chinese legend 'Journey to the West'. But the most creative thing about gamefreak is that pokemon naturally have clothes when their born or evolve.

Mr Mime is wearing something isnt he? And Jynx is definitely wearing a dress right? if not we might be looking at something we do not want to see. Does Primeape's boxing gloves automatically appear on him when he evolves? And how about Machoke's powerbelt?

I may be straying from the subject, but doesnt this show how damn creative(or imaginative) Gamefreak is?
