Donphan functions as a reliable bulky spinner, being able to spin on the likes of Skarmory and Cobalion while handling offensive threats like Revavroom and Tyranitar. Knock Off enables Donphan to remove Rocky Helmet from the aforementioned Skarmory and Cobalion, as well as Heavy-Duty Boots from Toxapex and Tornadus-T, and Ice Spinner lets Donphan 2HKO Tornadus-T, Hydrapple, and Ogerpon. Tera Ghost lets Donphan spinblock opposing Donphan as well as Excadrill. The listed EV spread allows Donphan to survive two Bleakwind Storms from uninvested Tornadus-T and allows Donphan to outspeed Choice Band Tyranitar after a Rapid Spin. Donphan best fits on teams that need a bulky spinner that isn't threatened by Cobalion or Skarmory. Offensive threats such as Greninja, Zarude, and Ogerpon-C like having entry hazards removed to be able to wreak havoc on opposing teams. Defensive Pokemon such as Heatran, Assault Vest Tornadus-T, and Cobalion also appreciate having Spikes and Stealth Rock removed in order to be consistent defensive threats. In turn, they can check opposing threats such as Zarude and Latios.
