Don't you hate feeling stupid?

Oh man, I have to be the most gullible person alive. I am incredibly book-smart, but my street- and people-smart IQ are probably somewhere around 12.

Anyone else feel this way? I always miss out on jokes, and I always fall right into the trap of the oldest, cheapest jokes in the book. How do you respond to situations like these?

Discuss. =(

Well I felt "stupid" in a way when I moved to Texas from Californai, seeing as a lot of stuff here is different than in Cali.

This also sounds like I was when I was in middle school. How old are you? Because if you are young, it's not so bad, you'll probably learn to fit in more as you get older. You can try a version of 'lurk more' in real life to a certain extent, if that helps.

Don't take jokes too harsh, learn to roll with them. If you take jokes personally every time someone fries you, you're just setting yourself up for more. You also said something about having a lot of book smarts, so I take it you are pretty good in classes. I'm not going to tell you to stop that, but if you are aggravatingly smart, people won't take kindly to that. I don't know if you do this, but if you always try to answer all the questions the teachers ask, or tell stupid and unfunny jokes, it won't help your popularity, either.

Or, if your problem is more that you don't understand jokes, you can try using urbandictionary.com, which is basically a dictionary of slang and stuff. A lot of the main stuff is just internet crap, but if you know what you're looking for, you can probably find it.

I don't have a whole lot of information with which to help you, so I can just give you a few bits of good advice that I've picked up over the years. My best advice that I can think of is to find your niche, maybe pick up a few quirks that set you apart, and learn from what happens to you.

ps don't tell everyone that you complained about your life on a pokemon forum

I don't miss jokes et al, but if there's someone what's going to fuck me over I will gravitate like them like a fly to shit and completely ignore everything anyone else tells me about what a complete cunt they obviously are.

I hate when I'm half asleep in #fluodome and do stupid shit =(

But what i hate most is (this was while wittybot on):

<Shiv> West is winning
<Shiv> You guys suck

You know what really makes me feel stupid?
I have to go to speech classes on Tuesdays, and I speak just fine!
Yesh, I hate parents for that...

People have always said I have horrible common sense, which I never understood. I'm a book-smart person, but I do feel stupid whenever it comes to playing the games of dating and some socialization.

Me too put I am very smart and have a lot of common sense...

I suppose I'm smart--in an artistic sense. But other than that I don't have a lot of confidence in my skills. I love a good joke and can usually take the butt of one unless I'm in a really bad or sensitive mood, but sometimes I miss a joke because I'm naiive (and probably trying to finish a sentence and not paying attention) and I don't have cable. :/ And then my friends start talking about WoW and I don't play it and blah blah blah...

So yeah. I hate feeling stupid, and I end up feeling like that all the time in a more serious setting.

So there's these two muffins sittin' in an oven...

I am similar to Bran minus the lack of common sense cause I usually get through the day with my common sense so yeah I don't think I am horrible on that field. I am however hopeless when it comes to asking people out, and other social things.

Indeed I do. Thankfully, growing up with 6 cousins who are ~14 years older than me has quickened my comebacks making me less prone to feeling stupid. Jokes, eh. I get a large majority of them, but not the political ones. That's my own fault though, as I know dick about politics. Still, it would be nice to get one of those jokes every now and then.

No. I love feeling stupid. I do 20 'wallbangs' a day to increase my stupidity. It really is true that ignorance is bliss, being 'clever' is so overrated. The world is a horrible place if you think about it, so don't, or you'll probably die.

Well it is good to be book-smart, but you also have to be able to recognize certain things in the world. Like yourDeadGrandad said the world is a horrible place, but you do have to learn how to live in it to survive, once you get that down, you'll make it easily.

I hate having to ask for help when everyone else around me seems to know what they are doing. Like when I go to the auto hobby shop to work on my car and I don't know what they are talking about.
