Double Check the core facts

I've been using this site to make a team, but some moves either don't show up, or are in event only pokemon. I constantly check with serebii to see if the pokemon can learn other moves like Ambipom with ice punch.
What i'm asking is: can i get everything from one site?

smogon tends to lean towards battling on simulators, where event only pokemon are easy to use. Any combination available is usable, regardless of how hard it is to get in game. serebii or bulbapedia are the best places to look to build a team in game, or maybe veekun.

Maybe they can add another column to the table of moves, just like the one on SHoddy, where a simple word (Level, Move Tutor, Event etc.) are used.

This is very brief but can help a lot

eg.

Charizard Moves:

Quick Attack-Event
Blast Burn-Move Tutor
Metal Claw-Level

etc.

I'm currently comparing various databases with the dumps chaos made, so the accuracy of Smogon's learnsets should improve dramatically within the next week or so. chaos already added the ~90 RBY changes that have been found (other than Surf Raichu, which I missed initially), and GSC should be done in a couple of days (damn exams slowing me down).

As for adding learn methods, it's being considered. Would be a fair amount of work, but could also be quite helpful to a lot of people. If a programmer is willing to implement the complex stuff, I'm happy to get the database in order.

i don't see why

inevitably if someone tells you charizard learns metal claw by leveling you're going to want to know what level, if it learns quick attack by event you're going to know what event, where/when etc

unless smogon caters to all of that as well, there is no use having the information on site because you're going to have to go elsewhere for it anyway, and smogon doesn't going to have that information on site because as it stands you can find that information off-site at places that aren't focused on the same niche

frankly i think taking extra measures to implement it would be a waste of time and/or resources

Knowing that a move is event only is still pretty useful for wifi users, they now know that it's not something they are likely to get. And if they are really interested, can check the event guide when that's up. Yea, there would be temptation to add further detail, but ideally we would have that further detail. Just because another site has it does not mean Smogon should not have it, as the guy says he would like to have everything in one place. However, programming resources seem to be rare around here and it's not a priority.

I'd say that even if resources weren't extremely scarce, 5th gen coming up will take priority. Bulbapedia and Veekun are good references, at least for the move sources @ OP. Most databases have small variations and omissions though.

Here's generally what I go with:

Making a team for shoddy: Use Shoddy for Pokemon info, Smogon for analyses.

Making a team for Wi-Fi: Use Veekun for Pokemon info, Smogon for analyses.

"We'll get it right for 5th gen"
