Double Dragon Attack

=DOUBLE DRAGON ATTACK=

Hey Smogonites! This will be my second RMT to post on here, and I mostly wanted everyone's opinion about my team. I've been using it a lot on Pokemon Showdown under my alt Dr. Chow. I've been hovering in the Mid-1700s and peaked just below 1800. I think the ranking could be better, but I'm not the best or most experienced battle. My first team was based on one of my favorite pokemon, Jolteon. This team is based on my favorite 5th Gen pokemon, Haxorus. With that in mind, I began surrounding Haxorus with powerful supporting pokemon. I added Scizor and Magneton to a.) counter some of Haxorus' checks and b.) form a two-poke, steel type, volt-turn core. Next I added Latios for speedy special based destruction. Dugtrio found his way onto the team to trap and kill other things that threaten Haxorus. The last slot has been the hardest to fill. I added Wobbufet for more trapping and Encore support. So now, I'll give you an in-depth look at my Double Dragon Attack team.

Haxorus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 36 HP / 252 Atk / 220 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Brick Break
- Dual Chop

LOOK AT THAT ATTACK STAT!! Seriously, being able to OHKO Dragonite with Multiscale intact is pretty awesome. CB Haxorus is more common (in my experience) but I really like the saying "speed kills." This saying applies perfectly to Pokemon as well. If you can hit your opponent hard enough and fast enough, it pushes them off balance. The EV spread is the standard fare from Smogon as are the attacks. Outrage destroys anything that doesn't resist it. Earthquake is probably the most fun move Haxorus has though. I cannot express the pure, unadulterated joy of killing Gengar, Rotom-W, Air Balloon Heatran, and other levitate users with an Earthquake. It makes my day. Brick Break is for predicted Steel switch-ins, usually doesn't see much action. Dual Chop is awesome if my opponent thinks he's safe behind a substitute. It's actually turned quite a few battles in my favor. With the support Haxorus gets, he can usually tear through teams with Outrage and finish matches in awesome style. Besides, Hax is in his freaking name, gotta love him.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam
- Volt Switch

Standard partner for a Dragon heavy team. What isn't so standard is my item choice for Magnezone. Choice Scarf may seem weird, but it's really fun to outspeed and OHKO stuff that doesn't think slow, old Magnezone is fast. He actually outspeeds anything with less than a 113 base speed and positive nature. Jirachi especially comes to mind as an important pokemon to outspeed. I am not really against using a more traditional set, I just like having speed on my side. As far as moves go, they're very similar to the Specs Jolteon I ran in my first team. HP Fire for trapped Steels, Tbolt for STAB, Signal Beam destroys Psychics and Darks (Alkazam and TTar come to mind) and Volt Switch allows Zone to switch on predicted switch ins and form a Volt-Turn core with Scizor.

212.gif

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Standard CB Scizor. He has awesome power and with a STAB and Technician boosted priority move, Scizor is a great revenge killer. 252 HP and Atk for the maximum bulk and power. U-turn to scout other pokemon and form a Volt-Turn core with Magnezone. Superpower sends Blissey and Chansey to an early grave along with anything else that is weak to fighting. Pursuit really just traps Psychics but it is a very useful move, not just a filler by any means. He has good synergy with the two dragons and is very good at what he does: come in, hit hard, get out.

381.gif

Latios (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

Well I had the most powerful physical Dragon on my team, why not add the best special based OU Dragon as well. Latios is very similar to Scizor in that what he does is come in, wreak havoc, then switch back out. As far as his item goes, I had to go with Timid and Choice Scarf because Garchomp has returned to OU. With Scarf and Timid nature, Chomp outspeeds Latios, so I had to remedy this since I forsee Garchomp becoming a staple on sand teams once again. Draco Meteor blows everything up. HP Fire can hurt anything weak to it. I also gave Latios the coveted BoltBeam combo. Basically, this thing has amazing coverage and is, many times, the MVP of my team. I've thought of using Expert Belt because of this, but as I said, ScarfChomp will probably grow in usage. Better safe than sorry.

Dugtrio (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Arena Trap
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Reversal
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Sucker Punch

Dugtio is another trapper on this team. He can usally take on any grounded Pokemon one-on-one and come out on top. I really love this variant of Duggy the best. Sash + Reversal is amazing. Earthquake is good STAB and hits most things pretty hard. Stealth Rocks is my only hazards and sometimes I don't even set it up. Sucker Punch is good for something that has either acquired speed boosts or tries to KO with a priority move. Pretty standard and straightforward set, but effective nonetheless.

202.gif

Wobbuffet @ Leftovers
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 120 Def / 252 HP / 136 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore
- Destiny Bond

This last slot is pretty much up in the air right now. I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of suggestions about how I need a spinner. If so, this would be the slot it goes in since the rest of my team has really good synergy and Wobb is just an add-on. Everyone knows how this beast works. Come in, trap something, use the appropriate move. What's most surprising about Wobb is that it's all the way down in UU after it was an Uber last gen. Who would have thought that could happen? I only really use his first three moves as Destiny Bond is very situational. Even though he isn't really the "glue" my team needs, he's a good Pokemon.

=CONCLUSION=

Well, that's all folks. I might put a threatlist up later, but I'm not really in the mood right now. I'm very eager to hear you're responses, so let them come on. Rate it, steal it, Luvdisc it, whatever guys. I'd be happy to hear about anyone else's peak from this team should they want to do that. Thanks guys, and thank you Smogon for such an excellent site dedicated to such an excellent video game series. See ya later, J Bandit out!

Hi, nice team you got here. The first thing that sticks out to me is that you have 3 Choice Scarf Pokemon, which seems extremely redundant to me. First, let's look at Magnezone. The steels that it will be trapping (Ferrothorn, Forretress, Skarmory, Jirachi, etc.) are either naturally slower than you and/or don't have a way to flee so the Speed isn't necessary. Instead of speed, you should be focusing on power. I think replacing a scarf with specs would be the best choice. For one, it allows you to 2HKO standard Ferrothorn, even in the rain iirc. Forretress also doesn't stand a chance and Jirachi/Skarmory have no way of escaping (unless they're holding a Shed Shell) so they'll be KOd as well. Here is the set:

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs 6 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Modest (+SpA,-Atk)

-Volt Switch
-Hidden Power Fire
-Flash Cannon
-Thunderbolt

Now, we still have 2 scarf Pokemon, and one of thems gotta go. Seeing as how the most common scarfed Pokemon in the game is Genesect right now, I think that Latios will be better suited to use a Scarf. However, his moveset needs to be fixed. First of all, there is no reason to use Ice Beam. You have Draco Meteor for Dragons and Thunderbolt for other flying types. The only things you are hitting harder with Ice Beam are probably Zapdos and Gliscor, both of whom would hate a Draco Meteor even more. The set should be:

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Timid (+Spe,-Atk)

-Draco Meteor
-Psyshock
-Surf
-Trick

Hidden Power Fire requires you to lower your Speed IV by one, meaning you will ALWAYS lose the Speed tie against opposing Scarf base 110s. Psyshock means you can effectively revenge kill CM Keldeo and to 2HKO Tentacruel. Trick is to cripple things that love to switch in on Latios, most notably Ferrothorn and Chansey.

I don't have a lot of experience using Haxorus, but I'd definitely suggest you change it to either an SD or Dragon Dance set. It also gets Superpower, so that should be used over Brick Break. The rest of its set looks fine. If you do replace it with and SD or DD variant I suggest replacing Dual Chop with either Dragon Dance or Swords Dance and swapping Brick Break for Superpower.

Scizor really wants at least 12 Speed to speed creep other standard 8 Speed Scizors. You can change your EV spread to 246 HP/ 252 Atk/ 12 Spe.

Finally, in order for your Dugtrio to get to 1 HP more reliably, I'm gunna suggest a couple of things. Remove Sucker Punch and replace it with Substitute. Next, lower Dugtrio's HP IV to 21. This will let Dugtrio Substitute 4 times and be left with exactly 1 HP, which makes sure Reversal is at full power. Now this is a matter of preference, but I usually lower Dugtrio's Def and SpD IVs so that basically any hit will put him at 1 HP.

Hey Milos, thanks for the rate.

I do think that having three choice scarf pokemon is kind of redundant as well. Specs on Magnezone seems to be a good option, and it does 2HKO Ferro in rain with rocks up. I'll try it out and see if I like it.

As for Latios, you're right, I should have changed his moveset. I was still using the Ebelt set I came up with. Latios is my most important Scarf user and a great revenge killler, so he's definitely going to keep his scarf.

Now for Haxorus. He's a very frail pokemon for all of his power, pretty much a glass cannon. The only problem for me with trying DD on him (that would be the move I'd use) is that he's so frail, any priority attack would mess him up (thinking of CB Scizor). He's usually used as a late game cleaner, so the lack of power isn't super important since most of my opponent's pokemon aren't even at full health. I could try the DD variant with maybe a focus sash or something to ensure at least one boost, but it's like using SD Luke. It's either going to go great or terribly.

For Scizor, I'll try it.

And Dugtrio. I don't really like purposefully send Dugtrio to 1 HP just to get reversal to maximum power. It isn't THAT strong that I HAVE to have it. It's used mostly for TTar and Bliss/Chansey or anything else weak to fighting. Almost everything else is hit harder by EQ. Sucker Punch is a priority move (albeit, unreliable sometimes) and I really like it to deal with Psychic types.

Anyway, I'll try out some of the stuff you've suggested. Thanks a lot =)
