376 (Metagross) @ Bright Powder
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Hone Claws
- Rock Polish
- Protect
Man. The meta is gross right now. Enter: Metagross (376). 376's type is Steel/Psychic. Steel/Psychic is a good typing right now, especially defensively, because that means 376 can resist Grass types (and also Steel types), like Rillaboom (Grass) (Kartana (Grass/Steel)). 376's item is Bright Powder. I chose Bright Powder because Bright Powder reduces the ACC of 376's foes, giving 376 a better chance at evading its foes attacks. Also, 376 is gold, silver, steel, and, most of all, shiny.

Clear Body is 376's ability. I chose Clear Body for 376's ability because Clear Body prevents 376's foes from lowering its stats. Besides, what's more shinier than a clear Metagross? 376's EVs are 4 HP | 252 ATK | 252 SPE and its nature is Jolly. I chose those EVs and that nature because the meta is fast right now (101+ SPE). 376 can outspeed base 79- SPE mons (like Necrozma and Buzzwole).

376's moves are Ice Punch, Hone Claws, Rock Polish, and Protect. I chose Ice Punch because Ice Punch is strong against Rillaboom (x2) and Zygarde (x4). I chose Hone Claws because it increases 376's ATK (which is 369). I chose Rock Polish because it increases 376's SPE (which is 262 (with Jolly)). I chose Protect because it allows 376 to defend itself against foes and it allows 376 to take 100% advantage of its stat boosts.

Choice Band Metagross

Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Steel Roller
- Stomping Tantrum
- Ice Punch / Zen Headbutt
- Bullet Punch / Zen Headbutt

CB Steel Roller hits like an absolute truck, so if you run it with multiple terrain setters then the opponent pretty much just has to pick something to go down. Stomping Tantrum is pretty important coverage for Incineroar/Volcanion/Heatran, but aside from that there are a few different options. Ice Punch OHKOes Zygarde/bulkless Zapdos (usually)/Landorus-T, Zen Headbutt is incredibly spammable with Psychic Terrain support and is Metagross's only way of OHKOing Urshifu-R, and Bullet Punch does a surprisingly good job of cleaning. Explosion, Trick, and Hammer Arm are also all probably decent, and if you really wanted a more reliable Steel-type move then Iron Head does alright as well. The important thing is that you run Steel Roller. The speed investment is fairly adaptable too, but I wouldn't advise running less than max Attack. This spread outruns +1 Kyurem-B/Zygarde in TW to bonk them before they deal any damage.

252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Steel Roller (130 BP) vs. 232 HP / 88 Def Amoonguss: 427-504 (100 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Steel Roller (130 BP) vs. 248 HP / 36 Def Rillaboom: 376-444 (93.3 - 110.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Steel Roller (130 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 142-168 (54.8 - 64.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Steel Roller (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mew: 357-421 (88.3 - 104.2%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Steel Roller (130 BP) vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Tapu Fini: 264-312 (76.9 - 90.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Stomping Tantrum vs. 248 HP / 32 Def Incineroar: 292-344 (74.3 - 87.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Stomping Tantrum vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 238-280 (65.5 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos: 316-374 (98.4 - 116.5%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Kommo-o in Psychic Terrain: 356-420 (100.5 - 118.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Modest Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Expanding Force
- Icy Wind
- Bullet Punch

Actually build teams with special metagross back in i think the first dlc dou meta. Was meant to get around diancie +def spam and get kos with psychic terrain. Was meant to out speed base 101 nature after icy wind.

Congratulations to fespy for winning Cycle 3 with his Assault Vest set. Your set will be added to the hall of fame. Anyways here's our next Pokémon.

Cycle 4: Rillaboom

:sm/rillaboom:
Rillaboom has been at the top of the usage stats thanks to the miles of utility that it provides. From Fake Out, to Grassy Glide, to U-turn, Rillaboom has it all. This monke mainly uses an Assault Vest set. But not many other options have been really explored on our monkey friend. So what set will you guys think of. Lets wait and see!

Drum Beating Rillaboom

Rillaboom @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Atk / 36 Def / 100 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Drum Beating
- Wood Hammer
- U-turn

The Spe control is one of the most important factors in pokèmon battles, that's why Drum Beating is important.
It affects all the other pokèmon, so you can even use it to boost our own Defiant/Competitive user.

The loss of Grassy Glide is not that huge: you lose a priority move in your own terrain, but keep in mind that there is a good amount of hate that makes GGlide not that reliable and Drum is a spread attack. Also, it makes a priority move less useful due to the -1 Spe.

With this spread, Rillaboom reaches 206 Spe that is enough to outspeed 252+ EVs base-104 Spe pokemons after a - 1 Spe.

It is a shame that Drum Beating isn't considered a sound move, so Substitute blocks it.

Sitrus Berry Rillaboom

Rillaboom @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 116 Atk / 144 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Grassy Glide
- Taunt
- Protect

As many of you know, assault vest has become the standard variant for Rillaboom. Although this is the case, another variant we do see on the occasion is sitrus berry. With sitrus berry, this gives Rillaboom the ability to run non-attacking moves, more specifically taunt and protect. Taunt can be extremely useful, especially when it come to shutting down trick room. Also with sitrus, Rillaboom can gain additional recovery on top of what you get with grassy terrain.

The EVs are relatively similar to the AV variant, I decided to throw a bit more into SpD so ice beam for LO kyurem-black is a guaranteed OHKO (although its still very high like 93% lol). Even without AV, rillaboom can still live powerful attacks from heatran and volcanion (although those matchups become a bit harder without high horsepower), as well as ice beams from P2 and genesect.

Eject Button Rillaboom functions as an additional pivot, while max speed allows Rillaboom to snipe Heatran, gain Fake Out priority, and snag U-Turn knockouts on opposing Rillaboom's.

Rillaboom @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Grassy Glide
- Superpower
- Protect

Swords Dance Rillaboom is supposed to take advantage of its decent bulk and resistances to set up on stuff like Zygarde, Zeraora, and Choice-locked Urshifu-R. Superpower is the chosen coverage move to hit Steel-types, Incineroar, and Kyurem-B supereffectively. The set works somewhat similarly to Choice Band sets, but at the cost of some coverage you can potentially become a lot stronger and have the freedom to switch moves and use Protect. Life Orb is used for notable calcs such as a guaranteed OHKO on Urshifu-R unboosted, guaranteed OHKOes on Kartana and Heatran with unboosted Superpower, and OHKO on Zygarde at +2 almost all the time. Jolly can also be used to outspeed Heatran at the cost of some power, but most of the time you're going to be clicking Grassy Glide so the extra speed isn't as important as standard sets, and Protect isn't used much on Rillaboom, giving you additional options against it.

Bulldoze Rillaboom

Rillaboom @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 8 SpD / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Grassy Glide
- U-turn
- Bulldoze

For the most part, this is standard Rillaboom - it still offers utility from Fake Out + Grassy Glide + U-turn with good bulk. However, it adds the additional utility from Bulldoze. Bulldoze's primary purpose is to support a Weakness Policy Metagross ally by simultaneously providing speed support and side-activating Weakness Policy without dropping Gross' Speed thanks to Clear Body.

Metagross @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD (this is a copy + paste spread: EVs are customisable)
Adamant Nature
- Steel Roller
- Stomping Tantrum
- Protect
- Zen Headbutt / Ice Punch / Bullet Punch / Agility (choose your 3rd move, though I strongly recommend keeping Steel Roller, Stomping Tantrum, and Protect)

Rillaboom's Speed EVs outrun base 80s. This was aimed primarily to always outrun Heatran so you can Bulldoze it, and then after the Spe drop, Gross can finish it off with Stomping Tantrum before it moves. Then I figured may as well add a few more Spe EVs to outrun a -1 Zeraora and +Spe Necrozma/Buzzwole, and then may as well go a little further to reach the 80 basemark. It still keeps the 248 HP / 36 Def benchmark to survive +1 Genesect U-turn and Adamant Urshifu CC, with dump in SpD. Obviously it doesn't hit as hard, but the zero Atk investment, along with Grassy Terrain, renders the Bulldoze damage to Gross negligble:

0 Atk Rillaboom Bulldoze vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Metagross in Grassy Terrain: 32-38 (8.7 - 10.4%) -- possibly the worst move ever

More importantly than the self-damage to Gross, Grassy Terrain enables Steel Roller. If paired with Fini or another terrain user, U-turn also lets you more safely switch to it to set up a second Steel Roller. Gross was the primary intended partner for Rillaboom, and I question whether Bulldoze is worth the slot without it.

And some Rillaboom calcs for your interest:
0 Atk Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike in Grassy Terrain: 236-282 (69.2 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
0 Atk Rillaboom Bulldoze vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Heatran in Grassy Terrain: 76-92 (23.5 - 28.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery (you'll need to Stomping Tantrum Heatran with your own Gross)
28 Atk EVs on Rillaboom still maintains the same damage on Metagross with Bulldoze assuming Gross has 0 Def EVs; the damage increaes at 32 Atk EVs.
