This is one of my favorite OU teams to use when I'm just screwing around. Though it is just a team for fun, it works quite well. There really is no theme to this team, just random shit that seems to work together. If you understand the name of my team, props to you, fellow worshiper of The Great Space Butterfly.
THE PREVIEW
And now for an in-depth look at each of my team members. (Keep in mind this isn't a serious team!)
If I were a Pokemon... (Get it? Because I'm Jewish?)
Probopass @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 80 SAtk / 176 Def
Modest Nature
- Sunny Day
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
Probopass is my Steel Killer (I don't care that Magnezone or Magneton are better, or that I don't need a Steel Killer, Probopass is fun!). It runs max HP for bulk (because speed investment is pointless) and 80 EVs in SAtk and Modest nature to be able to get a guaranteed OHKO on Scizor under Sunny Day. The rest is dumped into Def because most Steel types are physically-inclined when it comes to attacking (except for Magnezone, but whatever). He also runs Thunder Wave to make my opponents rage harder as they get Parahaxed, also giving Probopass a better chance to take down the opposing steel-type with as much HP as possible. Thunder Wave also allows him to outspeed some threats, as he's pretty damn slow, though it may be a good option to run Earth Power to take out Heatran. Volt Switch is to get out of the action once the steel is down and maintain momentum. And Sunny Day, my favourite move on this set, boosts the power of HP Fire, allowing for maximum troll and an opportunity to invest more in bulk rather than SAtk.
The guy you regret making fun of in Junior High... (Dorkly FTW!)
Gyarados @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Rest
- Waterfall
Gyarados is my late-game janitor. He runs a ChestoRest set (weird, I know) but it works for a few reasons. One, I can avoid all types of status, two, paired with his ability, Intimidate, it's quite easy for him to set up on physical attackers, and three, he can use Rest to temper his SR weakness. Dragon Dance is one of the best setup moves in the game for a sweeper like Gyarados. This is because though he's powerful (dat base 125 Atk), that base 81 speed just doesn't cut it in today's fast-paced metagame, especially paired with his awful 4x weakness to Electric moves (has Gyarados been on competitive retyping? Because Water/Dragon would make him far more viable). His Jolly nature also allows him to out speed base 80's if their both at neutral speed, such as Dragonite, a huge threat in today's metagame. Earthquake is for a powerful attacking move with decent coverage (because he doesn't learn any Flying type moves, WTF) and Waterfall for the obligatory STAB, being the only physical Water move in the game (besides Aqua Tail, but I feel the loss of accuracy is too much of a cost for an extra 10 BP and no flinch chance).
The guy who sounds like he should be in Naruto... (Entry hazard jutsu!)
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 168 SDef / 252 HP / 88 Def
Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
This is the 100% standard Ferrothorn set. He's almost always my lead, as Leech Seed and entry hazards are marvelous things to have. Power Whip is there so he's not complete Taunt bait. Ferrothorn also synergises well with Slowbro, the final member of my team, to form a powerful defensive core. Not really much else say other than Ferrothorn is the team member I'm most open to changing.
Juan's most annoying...(If you've rematched Juan in Emerald, I fell your pain.)
Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
Oh Kingdra, my second favorite Pokemon in the whole game (sorry Kingdra, but Ludicolo takes the cake on this one). Kingdra is such a diverse attacker, from running a Rain Dance set, a SubDD set, a ChestoRest set, a mixed set, a Choice Band set (yes, it's viable in rain), or a Choice Specs set, which is the one that is featured on my team and by far my favorite set. Kingdra is on the team because I noticed that my team didn't have a strong counter to rain; But Kingdra is a great abuser of rain. With rain being so common in OU (~15% of all teams carry it Drizzle) and Drizzle+Swift Swim being banned on the same team in OU, Kingdra is a great Pokemon in OU. Reaching a speed of 590 in the rain, Kindgra is blazingly fast, and Choice Specs make him incredibly powerful, and he's even got great bulk to boot. Draco Meteor is an oblivious choice on Kingdra, functioning somewhat like Latios. I run Surf over Hydro Pump because I don't want to miss. Ice Beam provides great coverage on Kingdra, and is always on his mixed or special sets. HP Electric provides me with coverage on the Water-types Kingdra takes advantage of, as well as providing perfect neutral coverage on every Pokemon in the game, known as the coveted BoltBeam (Rotom-W, Rotom-F, Lanturn, Shedinja, and Magnezone resist it, but still).
Nominee for best electric type...(Damn Pikachu...)
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Toxic
This is the SubRoostToxic Zapdos set that I love so. Most people would argue that SubRoostToxic set is outclassed by Gliscor, and to an extent, Gligar, but hey, fuck you! In all seriousness, SubRoostToxic is a great set on Zapdos. It's main advantage over Gliscor is the ability to go specially defensive, as well as hitting harder. This Zapdos set is a ton of fun to use, and is especially effective when getting Leech Seed recovery from Ferrothorn. Zapdos also has good offensive and defensive typing, though its partial Flying typing hurts it to an extent by giving it a weakness to SR and a neutrality to Electric-type moves, although the Ground immunity is handy. Zapdos also works well with Slowbro, being able to counter threats such as Tyranitar, Hydriegon, Genesect (before it's banning), and a plethora of other powerful attackers.
Not the best name... (it can be deceiving... as well as that derpy face...)
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave
- Ice Beam
Slowbro is one of my favorite Pokemon (I like Waters, if you haven't noticed) as well as a great physically defensive wall. With Slack Off, Regenerator, and a base 110 Def, Slowbro is an incredibly hard Pokemon to take down, though it is a bit weak on the special side, with a base 80 SDef (but that's why we have Zapdos, right?). Slowbro is no slouch offensively either, with a decent base 100 SAtk, making a Choice Specs or CM set viable (and no, I didn't just copy and paste that from Slowbro's Strategy Pokedex entry on Smogon). Scald is an awesome move on any defensive Pokemon, with a decent 80 BP, Water STAB, and most importantly a 30% chance to burn the opposing Pokemon. God forbid Jirachi gets Scald (or Lava Plume, for that matter). That 30% chance to Burn an opposing physical attacker is enough to scare them out alone, but just in case, we have Thunder Wave to cripple the opposing attacker. Not only this, but Thunder Wave is also effective on special sweepers as well, halving their speed. Ice Beam is mainly filler, but provides great coverage on Slowbro.
Well, that's my whole team (Down in the Midden Dawg) in detail. Thank you for taking the time to read this and post HELPFUL and CONSTRUCTIVE comment about my team. I would also like to note this took over and hour to write (DAMN!). A good night to all, and to all a good night.
*Sorry I forgot to put Slowbro's set in my original edit!
