DP Alakazam

I was talking with some other Pokemon players yesterday and we were making a bunch of anti-lead sets of fast things with Taunt and Counter, and after I found this set I realised it was the best one we made and possibly deserving of a peer edit, here it is.

[SET]
Name: TauntZam
Move 1: Psychic
Move 2: Encore
Move 3: Counter
Move 4: Taunt
Item: Focus Sash
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Speed
IVs: Def 0 (Maximise Counter damage)

[SET COMMENTS]

When the majority of players see an Alakazam they will expect it to be the TrickSpecs variant, so when they see a lead they won't expect to be prevented from using Stealth Rock by Taunt. If Alakazam is faster he can Encore the Stealth Rock and give another member of your team a free set up. If your opponent is a physical attacker such as Bronzong you can Counter the inevitable attack for an OHKO due to Focus Sash, preventing them from setting up Stealth Rock for the rest of the game. Psychic allows you to attack should you need to (See; if you are facing a Gengar lead). This set is also capable of defeating many anti-suicide leads such as Infernape. Inner Focus is incredibly useful as it stops the common Fake Out anti-leads from beating you, allowing you to Counter their move to set them into KO range or maybe Encore the Fake Out for another free set up

You could even Encore the Fake Out to force the switch.

Fixed a few things. You could say about using 0 Defense IVs to maximize the damage counter can do. Add a link to the current analysis, and don't forget to add
and
. You could add a more in-depth description for each move, although it is quite a simple set. There are more users who will probably do a better job than me, so I would listen to them if they post.

If Akakazam is faster he can Encore the Stealth Rock and give another member of your team a free set up.

This isn't exactly true as it would only work if the opponent stays in to use Stealth Rock again for some reason whilst you switch, which will never happen. I'd replace 'set up' with 'switch in'.

Oh, and it's spelled 'Alakazam'.

Wait, if you Taunt and prevent Stealth Rock, you can Encore Stealth Rock the following turn but nothing will happen!? Yielding several free turns!?!

Rofl, you stole what I was gonna say. -.-

This set has no advantages and could screw you over. Encore set is simply, just... better.

I suppose being able to beat Bronzong is always useful. Taunt the support move, Counter Gyro Ball and such. Also, beating the common Fake Out leads is pretty handy.

I don't see how it beats the common Fake Out leads. Weavile resists Psychic and can simple set-up on Zam before KO'ing with Ice Punch/Night Slash. This also goes the same for Tyranitar leads, who neutralize the Focus Sash and who OHKO's with crunch before you can counter, and is immune to Psychic. The original Peer Edit Encore set is far better IMO.

It still counters for the OHKO since Sandstream activates after the Focus Sash.

Zam has Inner Focus, preventing it from being flinched so it can Counter the Fake Out back for an OHKO on Weavile. Sandstream does not cause damage until the end of the turn, so Zam will still die, but not before it lives and Counters the Crunch back for an OHKO. Though a simple Sash + Focus Blast would do the same thing, providing it hits.

Would more HP EVs not be useful? Is max SAtk needed to OHKO Gengar and Infernape? (Who could well be Sashed anyway).

Edit: Actually, you'll probably be doing like 498 damage anyway so it's fine lol.

Synchronise I think is better. Bouncing back status without even trying is so cool, especially on a lead Pokémon. i guess if you want to KO Weavile really badly you can run Inner Focus, but I think making yourself a threat when statused > beating a fast frail Pokémon.

Well?

Alakazam used Taunt!

Bronzong can't use Stealth Rock after the taunt!

Alakazam used Encore!

Bronzong can't use Stealth Rock after the taunt!

Yes or no?

Bronzong wouldn't be able to use SR after it was taunted. Now, if you used Gyro Ball, it would say that Zong couldn't use it because of the Encore. After that, Zong would use Struggle IIRC. Something tells me I'm wrong though.

just checked. Taunted a lead Stealth Rock off of a Magcargo (test), encored next turn and it failed. It would seem since it never used SR, you can't encore it.

If Alakazam

Also I agree with Havak, there isn't much reason for this to have max Special Attack. It is already OHKOing the Pokemon it needs to with min Special Attack. I'd rather switch over those EVs to HP so it can utilize Counter better.

"utilise counter better"

it's already hitting for 502 damage with counter. there's nothing above that except Snorlax and Blissey - The former of which CAN do that much damage to you but will never run that much HP, the latter of which can't do that much damage to you with Counter.

the EVs stay in Sp. Attack for taking out other things. A 135 base power attack off of 369 Sp. Attack and 372 Speed is pretty dam good.

I ran a similar set except Protect over Taunt. Protect helps to scout and it also Enables you to better setup Encore. So perhaps that 2 could be a viable option.
