Gen 4 DPP OU Team "BandDos fait des ravages avec son copain SD Empo"

Le Don

Banned deucer.
Hey ! This is my first RMT Thread and I want to share a DPP OU Team. I started to play on showdown like 1 year ago and I started to play DPP OU like 7 months ago. I'm really enjoying the tier and watching SPL games, great source of inspiration.

So let's get into it !

Teambuilding Process : Basically I wanted to build a team with Band Gyarados ( lead ) so I built many teams like physical spam but I was not convinced. I also wanted to build a team with Swords Dance Empoleon, very cool set. I decided to gather the two ideas after watching this video :

I was very inspired by Excal's team that Teclis ( Diamant ) used during this game, Gyarados Band + SD Empo was fire.

Gyarados + Empoleon ----> As I said, this is the offensive combo of the team. Water Physical spam. They struggle vs bulky waters like cune or mie so I need a grass type...
gyara.png
empo.png

Gyarados + Empo + Roserade ---->Why Roserade ? High spD, good check to cune, no offensive mie... , absorbs wow / twave / tbolt from rotom for example and of course SPIKES and God know that spikes + BandDos is very dangerous. Now I need speed control and an anti-spin...

gyara.png
empo.png
rade.png

Gyarados + Empo + Rade + Rotom-Wash ----> Nice speed, nice typing ( good check to metagross, electric resist... ) ... It's the revenge killer of the team and the anti-spin. Explosion immunity too. Now I need another steel type to handle dragons + magnezone, special attackers like gengar / latias and I need rocks...
gyara.png
empo.png
rade.png
tom wash.png

Gyarados + Empo + Rade + Tom + Jirachi ----> Rocks, High SpD, Dragon resist, can spread para to help gyarados and empoleon. I tried a version with bronzong but I was too weak to Zone + Tias ( or just dragon spam ). Now I need Firepower, a sleep absorber and a second offensive check to Infernape because gyarados can't switch eternally on it especially if rocks are up on my side...
gyara.png
empo.png
rade.png
tom wash.png
rachi.png

Gyarados + Empo + Rade + Tom + Rachi + Latias ----> Latias adds offensive pressure with surf ( water spam :mehowth: ) and of course DRACO METEOR. Dragon type, very useful resists and another ground immunity is always good.

The offensive combo of the team : Adamant Band Gyara + SD Adamant Mystic Water Empo... All you need here is Firepower
1613740508293.png
.
Gyara : Waterfall classic stuff, EQ to hit Rachi and water resist neutraly like cune, dra, mie... , Ifang for dragons like tias, dnite ... and for the last slot I chose Aqua tail. Why ? The extra power and a better accuracy than stone edge ( more pp too ). Payback over Aqua tail is a great option too. Play aggressively with it.

252+ Atk Choice Band Gyarados Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 228+ Def Zapdos: 171-202 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Empoleon : SD Ada Mystic Water for extra power, full speed to outspeed slow breloom and defensive rotom, SD Double STAB aka Waterfall + Aqua Jet and of course Drill peck to hit Grass types like loom, celebi, rade and have neutral coverage on dragons and other water types. It needs the surprise effect to work effectively. Try to get in range of torrent for more damages. You can go for jolly but you are losing some importants rolls.

SPIKES STACK !!!! And Tspikes absorber ( that's why every pokemon in the team is immune to tspikes lmao ). Great SpD, good speed, high SpA, walls mono attacker cune like CroCune, RoarCune, PhazeCune, VineCune, starmie ( non offensive, Ibeam / psychic less ) and milotic. Stack spikes on grass types like celebi and water types, absorbs twave, wow, special hits like tbolt from rotom and stack spikes on it. HP Fire in order to hit Forre, scizor, grass types ( chip ), skarm, lucario ... Trick absorber too ( gives black sludge ). Rest gives more longevity and makes it deadly vs bulky teams / stalls. En résumé ( as we say in french ) : que demande le peuple ?

The official revenge killer of the team : RK lucario, agility modest empoleon, dnite with HP Ice , gyarados... electric resist, normal immunity ( explosion ). Dual stab + trick to pressure mons like bliss / clef which can spread para. With Rotom you can pressure skarm and double switch on gyara anticipating a ttar for example and then click water move. Too, ttar hates to switch into rotom with spikes up and if ttar is low, latias will greatly appreciate it and vice versa. Rotom-wash in order to make believe that I have hpump ( water spam btw ).

Jirachi ... Rocks, para support, win its 1v1 with magnezone thx to fire punch ... oh and don't hesitate to para magnezone, Empo will be very very happy about that. Good check to special attackers like gengar / latias / rotom ... Well Rachi is Rachi nothing more to say here... ( that thing is so bulky lmao ). Oh and maybe twave is better than bslam in this team.

The last pokemon, Latias. Great Speed, Great SpA, Spore / Sleep Powder Absorber. Double STAB ( Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse ) + Surf to hit ttar and hit neutrally steel types as Rachi / Zong / Gross / Zone / SpD Skarm / and hit Heatran too. I'm not running trick because I'm running sleep talk and I'm not a huge fan of trick + sleep talk. ( Shiny because Shiny Latias is beautiful ). A defensive version with CM + Roar or Roar + Twave ( with lot of speed like 330 ) is great option too.

252 SpA Choice Specs Latias Surf vs. 48 HP / 184 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 156-184 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock ( calc spread )

Bold Starmie ( especially psychic version ) : terrible for team but that also means that Latias outspeed it.
Offensive Suicune : if you get the para with Rachi it's fine. Rade can take two ibeam from a non boosted cune and deals huge damage in return.
Milotic : well, same as stamie, go on rade and stack spikes.
Kingdra : very dangerous, don't let it click DD or Rain dance.
Abomasnow ( hail stall / offensive version ) : Yikes... hail, leech seed, protect ... hit roserade with ice moves ... Offensive version is meh because Jirachi can handle it but be cautious of para support with it. You have to get up rocks.
Celebi : go on rade and stack spikes.
Aero sash lead : set up rocks quicky, can hit gyara with stone edge... click waterfall then pivot around ( empo then tom on the EQ if you don't want to reveal aqua jet ).
Azelf : same as Aero but with twave / explosion.
Gengar with WoW : go on rade absorbing wow then switch on Rachi ... gengar has to be in aqua jet range.
Zapdos with agility : can be deadly in late game.
Latias with Reflect + Twave : well good luck :grimacing: ... try to make good plays like clicking ice fang or double switching on your own latias.
Tormant Tran : good luck lmao.

Tyranitar with DD : I have never faced one but maybe try to keep Rotom and try to trick it. If the opp clicked dd again just spam tbolt, if ttar killed rotom send the appropriate response which is surely Empo. Or maybe hope for a stone edge miss :xd: . Rachi can live a EQ from full life ( +1 252 Atk Tyranitar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 334-394 (82.6 - 97.5%) and can para it ( hope it's shuca / chople and not lum ).

I'm a very recent player so don't hesitate to comment, every feedback / suggestions will be appreciated.
Thx for reading and have a nice day !

I'm glad you found out how much fun DPP OU is never late and I hope you keep cheering up.

The team is not bad at all Gyara + Empo is fire. You have a clear idea what the pressure is with SR + Spikes taking into account to cover well as much as possible.

Well, I will be brief although in principle they are small changes that can help to obtain a better result.

I do not know if Aboma really gives you problems but if so you can try Overheat in Rotom for HP Ice as long as gliscor or dragons do not give you problems.

Hm, I see that the Empo is Adamant and this I suggest may be silly, but why not Jolly? The reason may be an encounter with Loom 239 <240 and DPeck is x4 + stab anyway with Torrent SD and Mystic water is more than enough.

Finally, looking at the strategy and base of the team, I do not think it is unreasonable to try a CM Roar set in Latias. It must be annoying to the contrary as it would fit SR + Spikes aside from revealing mons.

I think that's all. I love the structure and everything in general and I hope that if you decide to try it will go well.

Love it bro. I'm a big fan of Gyarados + Empoleon, been using that core for a few months too but I went with a bit more of an offensive approach, so I struggled a bit more with bulky CM Suicune, especially with Sub which is more popular now on spike teams. I think you have more counterplay vs it than I did which is enough, but the CM roar listed above could be helpful if you wanted more, or simply using T-Spikes over Spikes.
