Ok, first time here, if this or anything in this is violating the rules, please lock/delete this and tell me what I did wrong so I can do it again without breaking the rules.

Work in progress.

[SET COMMENTS]

Salamence is one of the only Pokémon that gets a move like Iron Defense and a recovery move that isn’t rest. Combine Iron Defense and Intimidate, you can quickly wall most Physical sweepers. Though this set may look like a gimmick, it’s very good late game when Special Sweepers are out of the way and it can truly begin to wall.

Iron Defense is the focus of this set, as it instantly raises your Defense by 2 and allowing you to live through many attacks that would normally KO. Toxic is a must. It’ll let you outlast other bulky Pokémon that don’t have it, and it’s your best move against every sweeper who poses a threat that you can out stall. Roost is your recovery, and one of the things that makes this set something more than a gimmick. Flamethrower is your only attacking move, and explanation of why it was chosen may be needed. Dragon Pulse is a reliable STAB move, a good one too, but Steels resist it. If Flamethrower isn’t used, many steel types like Lucario and Scizor can easily come in and set up against Mence, then proceed to sweep your entire team. Flamethrower threatens to KO many Pokémon that this set may have trouble against, and its high PP is preferred over the lower PP moves that may tempt you.

Leftovers is the item of choice, allowing you to survive even Ice Shard revenge killers after an Iron Defense. Lum Berry could be used to ward off an incoming Toxic, but considering Salamence will be staying in for as long as possible, Leftovers is usually the better choice.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Careful nature could be used over Calm to make use of your massive Attack stat, but most Steel Pokémon have a higher Defense than Sp. Defense. Impish or Bold could also be used to make stronger against Physical attackers, but Iron Defense makes it somewhat redundant.

To show how bulky Iron Defense makes Salamence, I’ve done some damage calcs on common attacks against it.

Damage Calculations

Jolly Choice Band 252 A Weavile’s Ice Shard vs +2 Mence: 43.7% - 52.8%

Jolly Choice Band 252 A Mamoswine’s Ice Shard vs +2 Mence: 46.7%-55.8%

Adamant Life Orb 252 A Gyarados’s Stone Edge vs +2 Mence: 36% - 42.6%

Adamant Choice Band 236 A Metagross’s Meteor Mash vs +2 Mence: 32.7% - 38.8%

Jolly Life Orb 252 A Infernape’s Stone Edge vs +2 Mence: 28.9% - 34.5%

Adamant Life Orb 252 A Lucario’s Ice Punch vs +2 Mence: 49.7% - 58.9%

Adamant Life Orb 252 A Lucario’s Ice Punch vs +4 Mence: 34.5% - 40.6% (Not a 2HKO at full HP)

Using this set is rather simple. Come in on something that can’t hurt Salamence and Iron Defense on the switch. Flamethrower 2HKOs all of the Pokémon that damage calcs were given for that is scores a SE hit on while they can never OHKO you at +2. Play wisely with Iron Defense and Roost, and you can wall most Pokémon.

Even though Salamence has Iron Defense, there are some Physical attackers that give it trouble, not to mention the special ones. Rest-Talk Gyarados and Bulky DD Gyara can give you trouble, the former Resting away its Status and Roaring you out, the later Taunting you. Heatran will always force a switch, and any fast Taunter will make you sad. Toxic isn’t something Salamence wants, although normal Poison and Burns can be tolerated if you Roost more. Anything with a Special Ice or Dragon move will destroy you, so don’t come out until they’re gone. Stealth Rock also poses a slight problem as it chips away 1/4th of your health when you switch in, so you really should have a spinner on your team.

Salamence appreciates every entry hazard that you can set up. Partners are also helpful; three really good ones for supporting this set that deserve mention are Vaporeon, Forretress and Blissey. Vaporeon can come in and soak up most un-boosted special hits, then threaten to KO Dragons in return. Access to Heal Bell is great for removing unwanted Toxic and Sleep, and passing along Wish is appreciated. A Special Defensive Forretress is also good, blowing away Stealth Rock, resisting both Ice and Dragon, and setting up your own entry hazards. Blissey (Yes, I mentioned the hated ball of pink fat) happily absorbs almost any special hit thrown at it, and it has Aromatheropy. It can help Toxic the opponent, and it has its own healing too.

no i mean when a celebi baton passes SD to CB mamoswine and then it ice shards you when you only got 1 iron defense. either way the 400 defense evs will help against ice punch CB SD lucario.

Salamence looks really homosexual...

Anyways...bad set you wasted your time and ours...but mainly yours

highlight of the thread...your sig lol.
I have been testing this and it does work well later game.

And Ace Matador, if you aren't going to do something helpful, leave.

No. Sorry, but this set seems pretty gimmicky. If you have logs that prove this set's worth, I'll reconsider opening it.
