Gen 4 DPP Stallbreaker + Hazards

Hey everybody this is my first team since the Sleep Ban to Gen 4. It focuses on maintaining bulk while breaking down opposing defensive teams and punishing frailer offensive teams. With sandstorm, Stealth Rock, and spikes available… but not always essential for victory it’s very well rounded.

Details

Swampert
Item: leftovers
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 Sp.Def
-EQ
-Stone Edge
-Roar
-Stealth Rock

Standard defensive Swampert makes a good lead. I attack if they’re a taunt user, otherwise SR on turn 1. Great overall bulk and team synergy with the rest of the cast.

Tyranitar
Item: leftovers
Nature: Lonely
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Sp.Atk / 176 Atk
-Substitute
-Focus Punch
-Crunch
-Flamethrower

Sub-punching Tyranitar makes a comeback with this set to punish stall based teams especially Skarm-Bliss. Substitute is fantastic on TTar and provides protection to set up focus punch. 101 HP subs are tough to break, and flamethrower hits those pesky steel types that plague the meta.

Heatran
Item: leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Speed / 252 Sp.Atk / 6 Def
-Lava plume
-Earth power
-Protect
-Substitute

Substitute is also great on Heatran giving him time to hit opposing faster threats without being choice locked. Combined with Sandstorm and protect, lava plume offers burn support, although flamethrower may be used for extra power. I’ve also been playing around with bulkier EV spreads but so far the standard Sp.Atk and Speed seems to work fine.

Flygon
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Naive
EVs: 252 Speed / 252 Sp.Atk / 4 Atk
-EQ
-Draco Meteor
-Fire Blast
-Roost

Mixed Flygon for strait-forward damage and pressure. Draco meteor hits decently hard with a life orb and EQ cleans up nicely.

Forretress
Item: shedshell
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 40 Atk / 40 Sp.Def
IVs: 0 Speed
-Gyro ball
-Spikes
-Rapid spin
-Explosion

Standard Defensive Forretress, spikes support is extremely useful against grounded steel types like jirachi and scizor. Shedshell is there so I don’t immediately die to magnezone. Spikes, spin, Splode.

Crobat
Item: Black Sludge
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Speed / 112 Def
-Brave bird
-Super Fang
-Taunt
-Roost

Stallbreaker Crobat is a great counter to fighting types and shuts down status moves from stall teams cold. Taunt, super fang, brave bird and roost makes it difficult for opposing stall teams to function.

You don't block Rapid Spin, so Forretress' Spikes are not going to help you much. Also, stronger players deliberately build teams that minimize their exposure to secondary hazards. Therefore, I recommend replacing Forretress with this set:

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Thunder Wave

You still have Rapid Spin (mostly for Crobat), and Starmie can actually apply pressure, unlike Forretress. Good luck on the ladder!

Hello Fpiz91. I like how your team is deliberately trying to give the middle finger to stall teams.

Since your team is intended to be good against stall (based on what your RMT's title is), I think making Crobat or Will-O-Wisp Heatran the lead of your team can be beneficial to your team's goal.

Skarmory and Hippowdon are two common leads of stall orientated teams and Swampert is unable to threaten them or prevent them from laying Stealth Rock or Spikes. Lead Skarmory often runs Taunt, which can often prevent Swampert from using Stealth Rock.

If you lead with Crobat, you would be able to deny Spikes and Stealth Rock against Skarmory and Hippowdon. Likewise, using Crobat as the lead would also give you a free turn to Super Fang one of the pokemon on a stall team. If you are able to Super Fang a specially defensive Hippowdon, it cannot safely switch into your Mixed Flygon later during the game with only 50% of its HP. This is important because specially defensive Hippowdon's primary selling point is the fact that it can switch into mixed attackers like Dragonite and Flygon when it is at full health. If a specially defensive Hippowdon can no longer switch into your Mixed Flygon since it's HP is too low, your Mixed Flygon becomes significantly more threatening to stall teams since it's able to outrun defensive Latias and utility Jirachi.

Leading with Heatran instead of Swampert is another good option, especially if you find that Crobat gives up too much pressure against leads that are commonly used on offense/bulky offense teams. You can use Will-O-Wisp on Heatran over Substitute or Protect. Skarmory and Hippowdon cannot lay Spikes or Stealth Rock against Will-O-Wisp Heatran for free. Skarmory risks being OHKO'd or losing its Focus Sash if it uses a Focus Sash instead of Leftovers. Hippowdon risks being burned by Will-O-Wisp if it decides to Stealth Rock or attempts to Earthquake your Heatran. If your Heatran burns Hippowdon, it can survive one Earthquake from it. If you end up burning a specially defensive Hippowdon turn one, the odds that either Tyranitar or Mixed Flygon are able to kill it later during the game increase substantially. If you feel that you don't need both Will-O-Wisp and Lava Plume on the same Heatran set, you can use Fire Blast instead of Lava Plume so that you can do more damage to Clefable and Hippowdon. Fire Blast does 38.8 - 45.6% to Clefable with your current EV spread, so if Clefable has some prior damage from one of your other Pokemon, it won't be able to switch into Heatran's Fire Blast since it would get 2HKO'd if it attempts to switch in. Heatran would also likely work well with a bulky EV spread on this team so that it can better check Jirachi and absorb Scarf Flygon's Outrage or Scarf Latias's Draco Meteor in a pinch, especially since your Heatran has Leftovers and the ability to burn things.

Your team currently lacks a water resist. If you decide to go with Reverb's suggestion to use Starmie instead of Forretress, it would provide you with a decent water resist so that you can check opposing defensive Starmie, offensive Suicune, and Gyarados. The latter two water pokemon would be checked by Starmie's Thunder Wave, but beware of the Gyarados and Suicune that use Lum Berry these days.

Since this is an offensive team that naturally applies pressure and forces switches on its own, you don't need a phazer on this team. I'd consider dropping Roar on Swampert and using Protect, Ice Beam, or Toxic instead. All three of these moves provide key benefits for your team. Protect allows Swampert to top off its HP, block Explosion, scout for Hidden Power Grass from opposing Heatran and Zapdos, and scout what move an opposing choice pokemon will use. Ice Beam gives Swampert the ability to OHKO Dragonite, Gliscor, or Flygon. Toxic allows Swampert to cripple pokemon like Latias, other Swampert, Suicune, Milotic, and Gyarados if they attempt to switch into your Swampert. If you aren't using Ice Beam on Swampert, Swampert should have an Impish nature so that your Swampert can speed tie with Empoleon, Clefable, and opposing Swampert.

If you find that a pokemon on your team that isn't pulling its weight, you can consider replacing it with a Choice Scarf pokemon (such as Jirachi, Latias, Flygon, Rotom-W etc) to reinforce this team against offensive threats.

The Crobat + Mixed Flygon combination can be pretty neat against stall. Good luck!
