Dragon Killers! OU Team.
Hey Guys, lucarioz here. I recently put together a somewhat experimental team that I made specifically for teams that use major powerhouse threats, including the vast amounts of dragon type pokémon in this current metagame. Basically, this team uses a four pokémon defensive core that is designed specifically with tanking or just flat out walling. The pokémon in this core that I make an exception for is Celebi, which is pretty much my main status supporter. I'll get into that in a bit. Though this team is defensively biased, I still wanted to get some firepower into the mix so I can hopefully try to stand a chance against opposing stalls/tanks/walls. The two offensive pokémon I chose to use were Thundurus-Therian and a Chandelure. I know chandy may not seem to belong on a team like this, but I will further explain the method to my madness in just a bit. Without further ado, lets go ahead and take a look at the team from a glance.
Dragon Killers! At a glance.
At First, I tried using a FEARon set (FEAR Aron), but that really had no place on my team whatsoever, so I instead replaced it with Thundurus-T.
Dragon Killers! Explained in detail.
Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Dark Pulse
So, this is pretty much my set for the bulky rain abusers, namely pokémon with the hydration ability. Now, there aren't a plethora of pokémon in OU that I have found to give this team a lot of trouble. Though, there was one pokémon that just absolutely stopped us dead in our tracks, and that would be Vaporeon. Vaporeon is a prime abuser of Hydration+Rest sets, so we really needed something that could give these sets a run for their money. According to my damage calculator, Thundurus is capable of dealing
Chandelure @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Energy Ball
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Trick
Chandelure happens to be one of my favorite users of the Trick/Scarf sets, especially since most people would be expecting it to be equipped with Choice Specs, or even a life orb in some cases. With the scarf, chandy's speed is boosted to a whopping 388. That coupled with a special attack stat of 427 (with EVs applied of course.) makes chandelure the perfect unexpected sweeper. In some cases, chandelure can revenge kill some slower water type pokémon with energy ball, so his fire typing shouldn't hold him back TOO much defensively. And in cases where chandelure may be walled, trick will pretty much cripple any tanks or stallers, effectively making way for other members of the team to clean house.
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Download
EVs: 150 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 102 Def
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
- Tri Attack
And here, we have the star of the defensive show. I gave Porygon this EV spread because I didn't want him just special or solely physical based. My team really needed a monster that could take a wide spectrum of hits, so porygon obviously was a great candidate for the eviolite. With his SPd, Def, and HP stats all almost getting into the 400s with the eviolite boost, I found that even a choice banded garchomp's outrage was no match for him. I opted for Tri Attack over discharge or any of his other electric attacks because I felt that with the proper support, I could keep thundurus in long enough to take care of all the electric attacking. This made it so I could include the STAB Tri Attack, hopefully looking to get some hax in when I may need it. The other three moves need no explaining, especial since this team is meant for dragon killing... but I chose download hoping to get a Sp. Attack boost for when the opponent may have slightly higher special bulk than Porygon could handle under normal circumstances.
Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 232 Def / 252 HP / 24 Spd
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
This set is pretty self-explanatory. I need it to just set up some hazards and get outa there! Of course, skarmory is capable of taking hits from the big dragons, bar salamence's fire attacks. In some cases where the going gets rough, I can do the old whirlwind+hazards damage thingy. Must I explain more?
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 200 HP / 56 Def
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Stealth Rock
This is my Heal Bell team supporter. The reason I had thundurus take on the role of rain counter-offense is because with my particular set, giga drain really didn't do much to even water type pokémon with remote bulk, bar dual water/ground types. Heal Bell+Giga Drain is great for stalling pokémon who may not be the most offensive of creatures. But without this set, my team is completely vulnerable to all sorts of hazards and status. Stealth Rock is there JUST incase Skarmory can't get rocks up, or if they were previously spinned away.
Dusclops @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 100 SDef / 252 HP / 156 Def
Calm Nature
- Curse
- Will-O-Wisp
- Night Shade
- Pain Split
So this Dusclops also runs an eviolite set like Porygon2, because I don't think leftovers really do much for a pokémon with pretty low HP anyways. With the EV spread and eviolite though, this thing turns into a defensive monster, being able to take many hits. Dusclops is also an effective spin blocker. I want will-o-wisp to be able to take down big attackers when I really need to, and curse is in case all my other pokémon are down. That way, I can pain split my way back to health while the foe loses massive amounts of HP. Lastly, night shade is my best form of reliably doing damage with Dusclops. My main reason for dusclops, is to switch in for porygon or celebi when I suspect somebody is packing a deadly fighting type or bug type move, since porygon and celebi don't want those weaknesses exploited.
So that concludes my RMT. Please be sure to participate in the poll (if you want), and remember than constructive criticism is welcomed. Thanks!

125.18 - 147.88%
damage to the exact hydration tank set that we've had trouble with in the past. This set can also be used for rain threats such as Jellicent. When not dealing with these rain threats, HP Ice really helps take care of a lot of threats in this meta. When swampert or quagsire are in play (though a rare sight in OU), Celebi will be able to switch in and clear them off of the playing field.
