Rest Talk Sweeper
########
name: Rest Talk Sweeper
move 1: Outrage
move 2: Dragon Dance
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
ability: Marvel Scale
item: Eviolite
evs: 252 HP / 44 Atk / 188 SpD / 24 Spe
nature: Careful
Moves
========
- Outrage is a powerful STAB move that can tear through teams after a few boosts. You are not locked into it if it is sleep talked.
- Dragon Dance is there for outspeeding threats and boosting Outrage's power.
- Rest Talk is a necessity to utilize Marvel Scale and to prolong its sweep. It's Dragonair's only form of recovery.
Set Details
========
- Running a specially defensive spread allows Dragonair to tank 3 Poliwrath Ice Beams and 2 Life Orb Simipour Ice Beams.
- 24 Speed allows Dragonair to outspeed Floatzel at +2.
- Eviolite is the only possible item, as it almost single-handedly validates Dragonair in competitive play.
Usage Tips
========
- Use as a late-game sweeper.
- Eliminate all fairies and weaken its checks and counters beforehand.
- Stealth Rocks are recommended, as they wear down threatening Ice-types and break sashes.
- Come in on common special attackers or walls. Pokemon such as Raichu, Zebstrika, Ninetales, Tangela and Special Poliwrath become set up fodder for this monster.
- Walls are usually easy to set up on.
- Use Rest whenever you can, as Dragonair is usually more powerful asleep than awake. Don't forget about Marvel Scale.
- Be careful about using Outrage while awake. You will be locked into it and confusion can hurt.
========
- Soundproof Mr. Mime and Thick Fat Grumpig deal with Dragonair's main threat, Aurorus and to an extent, any rogue Fairies.
- Run Poliwrath to counter another stop to this set, Pawniard, and to scare out Piloswine.
- Pelipper should be a great switch-in to Piloswine and Defensive Poliwrath. Tangela performs this role similarly.
Other Options
########
- The option of Dragon Tail over Outrage is somewhat viable. While this can be counter productive with Dragon Dance, burning sleep turns by sleep talk phasing is possible. In this case, the appropriate hazards are very important.
- Dragonair can utilize Extremespeed to some extent, running an attack and speed based spread with Outrage, Extremespeed, Dragon Dance, Iron Tail/Waterfall with Shed Skin. Fraxure performs this role with more attack to spare, but with no priority.
Checks & Counters
########
- Aurorus
- Piloswine
- Pawniard
- Togetic
- Mr. Mime
- Avalugg
- Pawniard
- Vanilluxe
- Taunters such as Misdreavus can halt its set-up game
- Circle Throw Poliwrath can phase it, which is dangerous with hazards
- Somewhat bulky wallbreaking physical attackers like Stoutland and Kingler
